Read the rules for the "official" servers and they basically read "no fun allowed!" If you aren't an antagonist role, you better be doing your job to the letter and trying to help the station period, you better de-escalate chaos at every avenue unless your job description says otherwise, and you can't really try to innovate in your role. Ie. no going into places you aren't supposed to go, making unhelpful drugs as the chemist, no stealing anything, no beefs with anybody, and ABSOLUTELY no Cargonia... etc. Fun from rounds seem to be created from antagonists screwing things up and people defending themselves or security dealing with it. Not trying to sound like I want pure chaos or dicketry, but part of the fun of SS13 was from the spontaneity of it all and a lot of people aren't having fun because they seem to threaten bans for even joking about doing anything other than their jobs... or getting in the way of "Favorites," though I haven't seen that personally myself.
Honestly I'm all-in on 14. I've played a few rounds over the past few days and it's great. Yes there are things missing but all the core stuff is there and it's just SO much smoother. It's the first spinoff that seems to have gotten over that "bump" in replicating the beast that is 13 and provide enough of an experience to match it.
So the clowns plan was to take the atmosphere of a planet for the enrichment of his own life as well as his accomplices? I feel like this is the plot to a Mel Brooks movie.
There are two times making Cargonia is deemed acceptable on these servers. 1. You are revolutionaries. It makes sense. 2. The rest of the station is lost. To revs, to zombies, whatever. You invite the HoP, HoS, Captain, and everyone else who is 'loyal' to join Cargonia, and then endlessly berate them for losing the station while making the QM into a monarch. Cargo is often the last holdout against whatever hell is taking place.
These servers have overbearing reddit moderator level admins that don't respect ss13 culture. It's always acceptable to become Cargonia, the solution to rising against or siding eith Cargonia exist within the role structures and do not require admins. Don't want Cargonia? Send security. Want to side with Cargonia? Play nice. The game has to have the potential for unpredictable chaos, murder hoboing and metagaming aren't good but Cargonia is literally "don't disrespect us or walk in on us like you own the place or there will be consequences" which means there's roleplay & counterplay & cooperative play potential and that's the point of this game

I’ve hopped into a few rounds as well. Most are wiling to teach. The others are just as lost or are antags. My best round end I was walking with a talking hamster looking for food and got blown out an airlock. Promptly did what any living thing does in that situation, and had a ship land on me. They propped my corpse on a bench and the round ended. Best death in a game I’ve had.
I feel like the Checkers would have "misroute", "delay", and of course "bamboozle" on the QM requisition forms for how the department handles them. Or he would if he actually did paperwork. :)
My favorite thing to do in cargo now is to take over the front desk - and then ask everyone that requests things a series of questions : if they have an account? Then I tell them they can sign up free online then I ask them if they ordered online or in-store then I just roll from there - coupons then I tell them we have a sale coming up next Friday ect ect I just irritate anyone without access - engineering is usual the first to cuss me out
paper work, make them sign forms, that need a signature from THEIR head of the department they are under, or whoever is above that head, if said had is dead, non-existent, spaced, headless, etc. bureaucracy is fun in this game strangely enough.
That suttle stranding you in space is why I HATE 14. It allows assholes to steal all the two emergency crowbars and then cut the power to the station to kill all late joining players. I suggested they fix it but they claim that this is to prevent something worse, because apparently they can't code the shuttle just returning you to the entrance. (I fell being sent back to start would be a significant enough punishment in and of itself for leaving the computer just to go pee.)
This has been fixed since some months. The videos BPL has been posting are likely a few months old, judging from some glitches and features seen through the videos. Now the shuttle does indeed automatically teleport you inside if you are still on it when it departs.
My short tenure at SS13 a while back boiled down to role playing a toned-down Eddy from Ed, Edd and Eddy. It was fun as an occasional gimmick, but I've been frustrated out of the game.
I can't help but fear that as an old denizen of /TG/ Station... I can't h elp but feel that Gun Cargo and Cargonia started with Us. But that's probably Also wrong.
After looking into it, some of the design decisions of 14 dont sit right with me exactly (the lighting seems a bit darker in some places, the ui is very jarring in places, and plenty of other small things that will be fixed over time) But honestly? I'm really proud of how far 14 has come, also lizard racism is dead so that automatically makes it a better game than half of ss13 servers LMAO My first video being introduced to 14 was watching a CE lizard delay a syndie bomb, unbolt it, then drag it off into space last second while screaming the whole time and honestly? Bitchin, I hope 14 is able to reach the same level of depth 13 has some day, because it REALLY DOES have potential.
Im completely new to ss in general. Tried 13, ui was mega clunky. 14 is easier to get into for sure. even though I still have no idea how to power my ship or refuel it to leave the station on frontier... send help... mute spider monster has problems...
I get the idea of trying to encourage people to take their roles seriously, but the moment you start telling people "you're not allowed to have fun in these ways" all you do is discourage player retention. I honestly wouldn't have even found ss13 without tex, and hi way of playing is what I aspire to be- Yes and, and making things interesting without massively trying to be the only main character of the round.
Clown here running a spaceballs operation stealing a whole planets atmosphere.

Well yeah, the whole project has been co-opted by the anti-fun acronym people. Hard to have fun when the floor is made of eggshells. A shame.
Yeah the rules are still very railroady looking. I should be able to shut off power to botany because they started fucking with me

Th ceiling of what can be done with SS14 is so much higher and people pushed SS13 insanely far as it is.
Is it just the continuation of unity station or is it a new project? I haven't really kept up with it
@@maxscott3349 Different projects. I think SS14 is using C# as it's code base rather than Unity.

Considering the pain in the ass Byond is, I suspect it'll take a LOT less time for SS14 to develop to SS13 levels.
And possibly open new horizons as well
just downloaded the game from your influence, .. now to figure this clusterfluck out.
Just ask people youre playing with. But also trust no one😊
