My old mates, a couple from the UK Phil and Adrienne turned me on to everybody's favorite mailman from Chicago John Prine in 1974 when we were all living in the hills (Kalamunda) above Perth in Western Australia. I am forever grateful to Phil and Adrienne, John Prine is an American treasure a true American storyteller, poet, forget Dylan this guy knew America, he knew the people of America, no pedestal, no entourage. Thank you John, RIP brother

John Prine was the Studs Terkel of Country Music...whether main street or back street, he had a song for us all...from the beginning to the end his songs drew from the well of the human heart with a simple but profound view of the realities of life.

I watch this video today a tear after his death and still feel the loss of John, John always said "most everyone wants to go to heaven, just not right now." A great American songwriter and singer. Like others, many of his songs will live on as well recognized as songs from artists like Stephen Foster, Woodie Guthrie, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Tom Petty, Brian Wilson. Beethovens of our time. Sure glad he left us a treasure chest of tunes crafted with words to rhyme, define, sing, and experience our being. Thanks for being among us John as long as you could...........

It is very hard to find the right words of solace to express the loss of John Prine. He is the rarest of artists who's life's work was so full of songs, stories , jokes and warmness . And wonderful words that we could wrap around us like our best family quilt to keep out the cold nights.

  • @thomaspatrick2170

This video shows how much John was loved by his fellow musicians from a younger generation. Margo Price , Sturgill Simpson, Amanda Shires, Dave Cobb, Jason Isbell Jerry Pentecost on drums are just a few of the Nashville musicians seen in this video. I'm so glad Fiona Prine go him into the studio and we are now blessed with one more John Prine album to enjoy, listen and cry to. The loss of this one person made me feel the pain of all who have lost someone in this pandemic tragedy. They better have that cocktail ready because John Prine is going to heaven and it has nothing to do with a flag decal but the love he gave us all.

I saw John play the usher hall in Edinburgh, it felt like you were sitting in his front room as friend, listening to stories of warmth and humour and heartfelt sentiment. All my life I felt he was a friend I could listen too and trust. John was not special he was loved, which is so much more than special he was in your bones and in your heart.

I told god, this one is just too much. I've been writing and crying and then laughing at John's lyrics, which I know is how he would deal with this sadness if he were doing it for us. His words are as down and real as it gets, which is why people across the spectrum have identified with him. I'm keeping a little diary of these times, and the last few days entries are titled, John Prine and Corona. I think he'd like that he was matched up with a wo-man with such a pretty name. Thanks, John. See you again.
