There's a surprising number of parallels between Fear and Hunger and Pathologic. Both have multiple characters with different routes and endings, with the characters you don't pick being NPCs. Both have difficult to avoid semi-permanent status effects that make your playthrough exponentially harder, and both will probably kill you in the very first combat encounter, which is probably best to avoid entirely.
The crucial part I think you're missing is experimentation. Ex. That zombie enemy that gives you a lot of trouble? You can literally kill it without getting hit with the talk action.

Most enemies you can kill without ever taking damage just by figuring out their attack patterns, for example. Combat is more of a puzzle than actual RPG-style fighting. Either way, sorry for writing a novel, lol. Just happy the game is getting more and more attention. Thank you so much for the review.

It kinda became a joke that this musclebound cannibal barbarian of a man needs to be protected by a little girl in a mouldy black dress xD
20:08 it's so bizarre to hear you say that because this same thing gets said all the time in other videos and by other people, and before I played F&H it happened to me too. it's just this weird compulsion to buy and play this stupid game, its a fucking cognitohazard. once you know about it, you have to play it. it's creepy the way it reflects the way the dungeon in the game beckons and attracts its victims
+I wish more niche games were being made today. Like they did during the previous gens between the 2D, 2.5D, to 3D era in gaming. Then we had the arcade games transition to at home consoles situation. Really creative games were being made ALL THE TIME then. They shouldn't of ever "gone away from that style of games being made to this day.." like NFL BLITZ, NBA street vol 2, gauntlet, so many more styles of games, and the passion in which they were made. It should have never gone away.. I don't understand how gaming in the current day, has gotten to the sad way it is and why it's taking so long for gaming to change, to adapt. Can we please go back to the best aspects that we all loved BUT we should utilize our current technological advancements & modern software/hardware capabilities to our benefit. Rather than whatever the current Triple AAA gaming companies are doing now. *Perfect example: L4D2 & Halo CE on the OG Xbox have BETTER A.I. & gaming features then ANYTHING similar to them even tho it's over a decade and a half later with tons of technological advancements... The people in control of those advancements are holding back the true creative potential because they are chasing the wrong aspects of gaming because they think "it will bring them the most financial success" *(well the trick is, someone doesn't know they will be making a masterpiece or a cult classic. It will only happen if the creator leans fully into their creative passion & if they understand what core aspects make a good game, or film, TV show, music, etc.) That's how people truly find success. Not "how can we get players to pay money for this, pay money for that?" If you build and make something GOOD. People WILL BUY IT. Popularity will come to the ones that deserve it. It's not like success is a set of cake baking ingredients that can just be baked over and over again with just a different color on the outside to provide a false sense of difference between the cake's. (Sadly that's the bland soulless approach the modern gaming industry is taking right now as I write this)
Fear and hunger is honestly such an incredible game! I don’t really agree that you should google all the stuff you don’t know about tho. Fear and hunger is in my opinion a game about knowledge. Learning about the game and its systems is basically the progression. Each time you lose and have to go back the only thing you keep is whatever knowledge you gained. Eventually that knowledge will allow you to progress and beat the game. Also, many of the books tell you useful stuff. For example anathomia tells you about the different status effects. I recommend saving your lucky coins for bookshelves (especially in the beginning) and ALWAYS reading any new books you get. Also, going to the wiki isn’t always helpful, some of the info is incorrect (or at least it used to be on the old wiki, they’re switching over to a new site atm). Plus, reading the wiki might inadvertently spoil stuff. If you get stuck I’d honestly recommend watching a video on it, Frapollo usually has good tips but there are a few tip channels. Honestly I really recommend this game to anyone with the stomach for it and I’m so happy it’s getting more attention
No game has truly captivated my mind like Fear and Hunger 1 - its really insane how well it convey a horror atmosphere by making me panick that anything could kill me and lose progress - it also makes the unknown so unbelievably scary. I would say though, that by the time I got to Ma'havre I lost a bit of interest because it felt like you could gather all the resources you need to be set for the rest of the game well before that - plus I was less inclined to experiment because if you fuck up at Ma'havre you're gonna have to replay like an hour of content or more to get back there again.
I feel like infection is really only a problem when your learning the game and i think that’s why it’s a pretty fair mechanic aslong as you avoid specific enemies
Yall, the game was designed by a guy based on the inputs of people for what they believe a scary game is (iirc) for his master's thesis. He built the game based on what people don't wanna have to go through, ofc it's gonna be tedious as shit.
Don't salmon snake soul get rid of infection? also. you can talk to the zombies and convince them to stop being zombies. I love how this game makes you feel weak but as you explore and learn more you become a monster yourself being able to even kill the final bosses in a few turns.
For newer it so cruel but if you know some it so easy. There many way you can farming item and resource if you can figure out. Save on bed and go to bunny mask or wolf and try coin flip over and over until you win. Fight against door with HP and mind ring to slowly refill HP and mind. Or most broken way is get "Transmutation" skill by dig the ground from map location or use empty scroll and you can create food and mind potion by water as you like. But glad to anyone trying this game even so hard and struggle.

Most enemies you can kill without ever taking damage just by figuring out their attack patterns, for example. Combat is more of a puzzle than actual RPG-style fighting.
Either way, sorry for writing a novel, lol.
Just happy the game is getting more and more attention. Thank you so much for the review.
Both games are great ... Full of personality, with their references and inspirations on plain sight, but still original and special, unlike most of whatever AAA devs want You to consume
watched Connor (Cdawgva) play it and someone described as "Berserk Undertale". Never have I found a more fitting way to describe it.
Last thing you wanna search for knowledge is the funger wiki
"Man, I fucking hate this game!"
"Why do you have 10,000 hours"
Good ol Funger, the best game you don't wanna play
got f&h a few months ago but finally got around to beating it once eyepatch wolf dropped his video... its just so engrossing somehow and i dont even care if i have to go through the same thing 13 times to get it right i just. Do. i cant stop thinking about it im kind of insane
i havent even TOUCHED the other difficulties (except dungeon nights) and half the events but god its hypnotic. i dont even wanna say fun per se, like i feel as if i open the game, Get Posssessed for 4 hours, and then close it
I’m really freaking glad that fear & hunger is getting the recognition it deserves!
Id love to play it myself despite everything, I’ve seen countless tens of hours of content on it, streams, normal videos, video essays, reviews, and I can’t because I don’t have a pc or steam deck. God knows though as soon as I buy myself one that’s one of the first things I’m getting, especially since the games, 1 and 2, are so cheap despite the countless hours you can put into them both
"High Level Enemy" Yeah this game has no levels. It just has enemies.
Blue Sin- Book of Maharb
Infections- Salmonsnake soul
Saving- Clear the area(with no enemies in an area you get a safe save I recommend Totrturs area cause it has the easiest enemies)
Limb Loss- Guard, defense stance, or salmon snake soul
I guess it's just how my luck went, but I swear whenever I had the girl attack an enemy's head, it was an instant kill more than half the time, she so rarely missed.
It kinda became a joke that this musclebound cannibal barbarian of a man needs to be protected by a little girl in a mouldy black dress xD
Chromerot upload LETS GOOO!
LFGGGG
The wiki is not reliable btw
PLEASE PLAY KINGDOM TWO CROWNS. IT LOOKS LIKE A BORING 2D GAME BUT ONCE YOU PLAY MORE THEN 30 MINUTES ITS A MASTERPIECE
10:38 if you talk to the zombie and say "prepare to die" he wont attack back anymore
Honestly, if I get lost in the F&H dungeons, I 100% get someone not coming to rescue me.
thanks for using sexy enki as thumbnail
ur welcome babes
And I thought Rain World was a torture game
20:08 it's so bizarre to hear you say that because this same thing gets said all the time in other videos and by other people, and before I played F&H it happened to me too. it's just this weird compulsion to buy and play this stupid game, its a fucking cognitohazard. once you know about it, you have to play it. it's creepy the way it reflects the way the dungeon in the game beckons and attracts its victims
Welcome back
😂😂😂
Glad to see you back Mr. Rot, chromeboy, the great rotted one, etc.
mr aluminium smudge
Entertaining video about what seems to be an interesting game. I know I can count on something fun and insightful every 6 months from No Cap.
Wiki is NOT always right. If you need some info, search it up on yt: there are like 3 channels that do ACTUALLY good guides
You're better off becoming familiar with Frapollo94 or AllBonesJones' channels, the wiki has a lot of errors on it.
It will only happen if the creator leans fully into their creative passion & if they understand what core aspects make a good game, or film, TV show, music, etc.)
That's how people truly find success.
Honestly I really recommend this game to anyone with the stomach for it and I’m so happy it’s getting more attention
have you tried talking to the ghoul and telling it you want to kill it?
Bam turns from awful to literally the easiest enemy in the entire damn game
NEW ROT UPLOAD WOOHOOOOOO
Good to have you back!
again
i deserve to be bullied 😔
You can actually get Blue Sin by using Passages of Ma'habre just before the cave in. Always worth using an empty scroll to get Passages.
are you gonna make videos more often? please, i love them
the only thing i can say is I'll try 😬
You REALLY need to try Fear & Hunger 2 Termina!
i will never touch this franchise again
No game has truly captivated my mind like Fear and Hunger 1 - its really insane how well it convey a horror atmosphere by making me panick that anything could kill me and lose progress - it also makes the unknown so unbelievably scary. I would say though, that by the time I got to Ma'havre I lost a bit of interest because it felt like you could gather all the resources you need to be set for the rest of the game well before that - plus I was less inclined to experiment because if you fuck up at Ma'havre you're gonna have to replay like an hour of content or more to get back there again.
its got a sequel :) Fear and Hunger 2: Termina
I feel like infection is really only a problem when your learning the game and i think that’s why it’s a pretty fair mechanic aslong as you avoid specific enemies
Very entertaining to watch hope you get 100k sub soon
Yall, the game was designed by a guy based on the inputs of people for what they believe a scary game is (iirc) for his master's thesis. He built the game based on what people don't wanna have to go through, ofc it's gonna be tedious as shit.
I skipped the intro AND the sponsor 😎
banned
PS: you can safely save in any given bed if you kill all/specific enemies in the area
This is the most honest and real aproach in adventuring made in rpgmaker
fear and hunger really brought be back into the rpg community its just so unique
My man has the most impeccable vibe on yt
10:40 did you know that you can say "Prepare to die!" to any of the ghouls(except the Mahabre ones) and they won't attack you?
YOURE BACK !!!
YES
@@chromerot WEE :D
YES, this is a solo game and so is the second game. Go give them support !
Don't salmon snake soul get rid of infection? also. you can talk to the zombies and convince them to stop being zombies. I love how this game makes you feel weak but as you explore and learn more you become a monster yourself being able to even kill the final bosses in a few turns.
“And I had fun playing it, even though I hated every moment”
I sub
with the ghoul, if you talk to it and tell it to prepare to die, it will beg for death and not fight back.
I'm so happy the game is getting pushed into the spotlight the struggle is real c:
Good video. Now it's time to wait another 6 months for another one.
its sad but i created this 😔
For newer it so cruel but if you know some it so easy.
I watched a vid about F&H like half a year ago and I just can't forget about this game. I know I will be pissed when I eventually play it, I know it will be a shitshow but I guess it's just some kind of morbid curiosity to experience it personally. Halloween is coming up soon at this point so maybe I will have a bit of "fun".
4:46
i know you didn't just hit me with the "BRBRBRBREAK YOUR LEGS"
Prime content, like always.
I beat the game a few days ago and this really is a game people shouldn't sleep on. This game is special
bro I really wish you could upload more frequently because istg you're one of the funniest and most interesting gaming youtubers I've ever watched!!! I hope youre doing well despite playing this godforsaken game and I hope your next upload wont be only in 2024 🥹 gonna binge your old vids after this one lmao take care dude 🫶
THANK YOU, 2nd best video on the game and i'm really grateful that you talked about the random deaths and darker aspects (that people skip), i got an epiphany. I'm also relieved by how well executed it was, the others weren't, this left me wanting more.
2ND BEST???
@@chromerot You watched Eyepatch Wolf too... don't lie to me!
@@GustavoSilva-ny8jc i didnt actually, i was pissed off that he uploaded that exact topic before me cause i was working on the vid for so long so i didnt wanna watch it lmao
@@chromerot WHAT?! Plot twist 😂. Does the sudden attention to the game have something do to with Termina release? It just feels too coincidental.
@@GustavoSilva-ny8jc i think an older video on it started getting recommended to everyone, that's how i found the game and decided to play it. assuming its the same for SEW
welcome back :) love the new branding.
yoo good to be back, and thank you so much 💙💙💙
Great video about a video game I will never play but instead I will watch every video essay that I can find about it
9:24 Brilliant, and the ball comment 😂😂
