My first ever attempt was on Hard Mode with Enki, no Dash, i didn't make it past the dogs, ten attempts later I started on Terror and Starvation as Ragnavaldr and would go on to finish the game for the first time
Thank you, so far Ive gotten every ending except for Ragnavaldr and Enki's S endings, and last night finished Karin's B route on Termina, solo vs the two final bosses with only a meat mallet and some very basic armor was rough but manageable

Yeah, if there was at least like a spell to create torches or emit light for a cost exclusive to that mode it would be fine even if it was harder to get as it would basically swap the time crunch of finding Legarde with finding that spell so you don't have to worry about running out of that must have resource anymore.
Honestly, the fact that Hard Mode basically turns the game into a roguelike with unique ending access is a pretty cool idea. A fantastic way to encourage people to get good at the base mechanics, learn to adapt to the rng, and especially to learn the lay of the land so that the can find exactly what they are looking for, and fast.
It really does feel like one of the classic roguelikes in that way (like specifically Linley’s/Stone Soup to me). One shot to do everything, locations and progression remain consistent but items and layouts change, no party members unless you spec into it (summoning or necromancy respectively), multiple ways to “finish” a run (finding The Orb of Zot and leaving is equivalent to finding Le’garde’s corpse and leaving, you technically won but there’s more) and most of all the fact that RNG might just ruin you whenever.
@@orfeas2335 In fairness, without outside knowledge of how this game works and how enemies are statted, it seems like you really aren't supposed to fight a good amount of the enemies for a while, even on normal. With predetermined knowledge of the enemies and items, normal does become a lot easier, but I still feel like the opening moves are mostly the same up to a certain point. It's once you reach the late game that you might see some diversity, due to the wide array of options.

You sort of forgot to mention the differences in torch mechanics on terror and starvation mode, which if we are being honest, are bull crap because it completely undermines the hunger mechanic. Without torches, the game is pretty much unplayable on terror and starvation and you are 100% going to run out of torches before you run out of food, making the hunger meter almost pointless.

The chance of getting a torch from containers is extremely high if you have 0 torch in your inventory. So not searching all containers (specially if you know you'll backtrack), and saving sticks, cloth, and tinderbox for emergencies will make sure you'll never run out of torches even if your playthrough is long af.
If i had a nickel for every time a difficult indie game had a secret dating sim, I'd have two nickels, which isn't alot but its weird that it happened twice

It is unfortunate that hardmode has absolutely no save method as I am not someone who has probably enough time to finish it in one play session unless I get super lucky and get a empty scroll I suppose.

Btw in hard mode difficulty as hardest the character as hardest the dungeons. For example if you go for Ragnvaldr there will be more enemies with flower brains and more flowers will grow (just the visual changes) but if you go for Cahara there will be less enemies with brain flower and less flowers growing in dungeons

I think there's more of the dogs in the higher difficulties, and they also spawn just about immediately when you go inside the main doors, where in fear and hunger mode, it felt like I had a hood 30 seconds to a minute before they came inside Also one time in hard mode crow mauler popped a hole at head level but didn't break down the whole wall and emerge to attack me. He just kind of stood there menacingly for a second staring through the hole and then disappeared 😶🌫️

Haru with one shot kill melts most bosses on merciless it's absolutely ridiculous and the only reason it isn't the easiest persona game is because p2 IS auto battle setting literally wins every fight for you easily and p4 gives you megidolan in the second dungeon lmao

If you know where to go, it's almost impossible to run out of tourches thou. That's kind of the point of playing on the easiest diff first

Ironically, "Merciless" mode in Persona 5 makes some boss fights much easier, as its boost to damage scaling works both for and against you.

Lmfao, I never played the easy mode, I thought simply if I did I'd be locked out of the normal endings somehow, honestly speaking gather torches never bothered me that much, but maybe thats just because I'n used to it

No companion on hard mode seems dumb to me. Companions are half the fun of such games.
You can still get ghouls and skeletons! Also I don't think it's dumb! Hardmode is a challenge mode!
@@frapollo94 undead don't have any personality. So they suck as companions. Sure it's challenging, it just isn't as fun without the party banter and such.

It would be nice if the game have some use for junk items like dirt or diamond. If it truly trash, player shouldn't pick it in the first place
