  • Welcome back for the second part of our simplest version of a lidded pot! Here we will show how to make the lid and ensure it has a nice fit using your calipers. We love this lid because you throw it, leave it to dry, and it's done. For a lid, it is very low maintenance! The actual lid made in this video did turn out a tiny bit large for the flange, but if that happens don't worry. You can adjust it by sanding the edge in a rounded motion with your tool of choice until the lid fits nicely. We used a Surform Shaver and then some sand-paper to smooth out the edge and now it fits very well. You can see a short video of how it turned out on our Instagram @potteryplusco or Facebook @potteryplus! We will be back with more in 2 weeks! Happy potting!

I'm really glad I found your channel. I've never been able to find anyone who has instructed on how to actually use the calipers. I have a set still in an unopened bag just waiting to be used. I'm excited to try a lid and flange. As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Do you have a Ko-Fi page or somewhere we can we tip you? When I find value in someone's work, I'll purchase a piece from them or purchase from their affiliate links as a way of showing my support and appreciation.

Let us know how it goes with the calipers! Thank you so much for asking! As of right now I don't have anything like that, BUT I am working on adding a shop to my website so I can sell some of my mugs. I will let you know when that is established- it should be by the end of the year. As always, thank you so much for you kind and generous comment and support of the channel! It means so much!

Do you wire it off or leave it on?

Hi Nikita! Since I am using plaster bats here I do not wire it off. The plaster will pull moisture from the clay and it pops off at about the leather hard stage (usually). But if you were working on a bat that's non-absorbent like plastic, you would leave a little extra at the bottom and wire it off. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Hello Mrym! I believe I measured about 1/4 of a pound for this lid which google tells me is 113 grams! But you can always adjust up or down depending on the size of your pot. Thanks for watching!
