I am so glad to see this. Your method of teaching here is very helpful, with captions and clear explanations of each step. I feel encouraged to make some pieces like this!
Thank you for watching! Also thank you for your comment which encourages me so much. I am new to UA-cam so I wonder my explanation is reaching the viewers. I will do my best to share my experience. Let’s make more pots together!😃
I appreciate your video so much. A teacher showed my class how to do this, but I still struggled when I attempted it later. Your video is so helpful, and I am eager to get back on the wheel to try it again. Thank you 🙏
Thank you for your lovely comment Sashak 😊 ONE PIECE is one of my favorite techniques and I use it so often. I’m going to do it again with better explanation and details in near future. I’m so happy to hear you feel you want to go back to the wheel! Me too❤️
Thank you for this video! I didn’t have a teacher to teach me the basics of pottery, so I had to teach myself. I am comfortable with most other methods but I couldn’t seem to understand how to close a piece and make a lid. Thank you for teaching me!
Thank you for your comment 😊. I posted the version 2 for this jar making recently. If you haven’t watched it please visit my channel. It covered many more points I didn’t explain in this video. There are many other closed form videos also in my channel. Please try to throw them!
Thank you for your comment Pale😊 I posted version 2 some time ago. It includes few points I was missing to explain so when you have time please check it.
Cannot wait to try this! I love that you use household objects for many helpful tips that I would not think of myself. Thank you for sharing your expertise!!
Thank you for the demo very interesting and congratulations on your spoken English language@ hehe I must try to make one of these soon, I have your instructions, so it should be able to make one or 2 or 3 or! UK London.
Thank you for your comment! I hope my Japanese accent didn’t put you off completely 😅 This method has so much potential. I am planning to post more ONE PIECE series in the future. I am so glad to hear you are going to try. I am looking forward to hearing your success soon😉
Thank you for watching! I want to encourage everybody to try pottery 😄. It is difficult in the beginning but there are big rewards later. I am planning to post the video soon dedicated to beginner. I hope you will enjoy it.
Thank you for your comment 😊 You can!!! Trust me. Please dedicate one session for Closed form only. Let’s start about 800 g. and don’t worry about wall thickness in the beginning. In the end of the session you feel you understood the system.
Thank you for your comment Patricia😊 it is tricky to make the first one but after that this becomes easiest way to make well fitted lidded jar. Please let me know when you made.
Thank you for your comment 😊 I posted version 2 of this method recently, please visit my channel and check the video. This new one covers few parts I missed to explain in the first one.
It is seven months later, and I am finally making these. I sure needed to rewatch your video as my time yesterday with trimming my first one sure wasn't as smooth as you have done. Hopefully today at the studio will be better. I will be making a bunch of these for Christmas presents for my grandkids. Thank you again for your video!
Thank you for a lovely comment Tricia😊. Your comment made me so happy! It is very good way to make a bunch in one go so you can definitely master this. This is the comment I am waiting for. I feel sooo good!
Thank you for your your comment! I use the metal kidney to take a pot off. I used that method in the video “ Throwing a cup with twist”. the pot is attached mainly by the edge so just sliding the metal kidney in should be fine to separate the pot from the wheel. please try.
Thank you for watching! Yes I keep them together always. I didn’t show the details in the video but I used the wax at the gallery. I also use not runny glaze for ONE PIECE. I want to make a video which goes through the details of making ONE PIECE in near future as many people seems to be interested. Thank you for your question which helps me understanding what I am missing 😉
Thank you for your comment Hannah😊 This is a very good question. I fired them together for the bisque and glaze firing. I need to choose non running glaze and extra care for the joint part cleaning. This pot is tight fit so better to fire the lid and the base together. When I fire the wider flat lid I could fire separately. The flat lid could sag sometime. I mentioned about this in the cookie Jar video which has flat wide lid. if you are interested in please check. Thank you for watching !
Thank you for watching! This tube is water pipe insulation. you can buy at DIY shop in different size. My wheel setting is higher than usual to avoid the back pain. so I can not use my thighs for my arms anchor point. If you also have a same problem with me I recommend this style. ☺️
When you trim the lid to make the bevel edge, how do you hold the tool to get that desired ledge effect? I am deaf so I don’t know if you say anything about that. Many thanks x
Thank you for your comment Fay😊. What I said was always at the subtitle so you are not missing anything 😉. I couldn’t digest your question well, sorry. Is the part “Lid catch” ? Your question was “how to hold the tool?” I looked the video again and I couldn’t think I use any unusual way to hold the tool at that point. So I thought I maybe not understanding your question. If you can rephrase your question for me please. By the way my next video is “One Piece Version 2” This video covers the details I was missing to explain. I hope next video will be useful for you.
Thank you for your comment Angiea 😊 Yes I leave the lid on the pot. I want to them to shrink in the same condition. You may worried the lid is stacked the pot. In my case it doesn’t happen. The video one is quite tight you can see but no problem. You can start to make slightly loose fitting maybe.
This is a very interesting method to make a jar where you don’t have to make another piece! I love this definitely trying when my new wheel comes in! :D
Thank you for watching! I am glad you like this method. I think this is a good example of “ there are many ways” . You are getting new wheel! Nice😍 Which make have you chosen? Mine is “Simpo” whisper. I have no complaints, I love it.
Thank you for your comment 😊 Crack after drying? which part of the pot? If you are talking this close form pot and the crack is at the dome part pleas make sure your air vent hole is large enough to release the air. It may be closed during the drying and creates crack. If the clack happens at the bottom after trimming or firing, reduce the bottom thickness. This will prevent an “s” crack at the bottom.
Thank you for your question 😊 I assume the “S” crack occurs the closed point of the lid. If so, when you trim the inside of the lid please trim the joint part more and make this part thinner. This point tend to get thicker than rest, specifically if you made a knob. This uneven thickness causes an “S” crack. please try to trim more and compress with rib to make smooth finish. it will help to prevent an “S” crack.
Thank you for your question Jane😊. Yes I fire them together for bisque and also glaze firing. For the Glaze firing I need to wax the joint part very well. The glaze needs to be not runny one.
The lidded piece is called a sauce pot. Does that mean that it can be heated on a burner? What clay is used. Bisque fired to what cone? Glaze fired to what cone? Thank you!
Hi Susan, thank you for your questions. I am not sure the first question’s meaning, could you explain again please. I used Stoneware buff with 20% Lava clay. Bisque fire is around 1000 degree. The glaze fire is around 1220 degree. I hope this will help 😊
Susan, I'm not sure where you're getting "the lidded piece is called a sauce pot" Anyway, to answer your question, no, the clay pot is not used on a stove burner.
Thank you for your question 😊. There is no speed meter on my wheel. The speed of the wheel is different depending on what I am doing on the wheel. I use a throwing batt most of the time so if you see how batt spins you can get some idea of speed at each stage. My wheel pedal is just under my right foot. I know it is difficult to find good speed in the beginning. The best practice is centering and making a cone shape nicely. Also using different softness clay. You will realize the combination of wheel speed and hand power are key points.
Thank you for your comment 😊 I used metal kidney. Please watch my other video “One Piece Lidded Jar Double Decker Version “ at 10:40 you can see how I did.

Great video and explanation. I was hoping to see how you removed the bottom that you had wet to attach to the bat to trim. Did you wire it off?

very nice what type of glaze did you use
