So here’s the thing. I’m a Canucks fan for life. And I want them to succeed. I want so so so badly to hear the announcer call a Stanley Cup winner for the Canucks. But maybe JT (and/or Petterson and/or Demko) just need a fresh start in a new city with a new staff. Maybe it’s mental health, maybe it’s an injury, idk, but I just want what’s best man.
Or maybe they shouldn't have hired a trash GM who hired a garbage coach because of nepotism then built the worse defense in the league on the advice of that trash coach. Canucks are screwed. This trade will go down in infamy. It will be immediately on par with Neely and OEL for how much it fucks over the franchise.
The reality is that JT Miller can be a great player who plays with intensity. The problem is that when things don't go his way, he just quits. For all the criticism of Pettersson, when he's not scoring, he doesn't automatically stop being an excellent defensive player too. When Miller is off, he's less than useless. And if Rick Tocchet can't get him to play with consistency and focus, really all you can do is send him to a team with a really strong, established, respected leadership group. I'm thinking Sidney Crosby. Miller isn't going to try to usurp his authority as locker room leader. But he probably wouldn't waive to go to a team on their way down. For the Canucks, that's not their problem. Their problem is finding a destination he'll go to where they can get a good return and move forward. Miller has been in the middle of several locker room rifts over the recent years. He's the common denominator. For me, it's about the team. No one is bigger than the team.
If Canucks got offered Nemec+Mercer for Miller+something they should take it. Mercer looks like will be solid 2nd line center and Nemec can't stay he's behind Casey and Hughes on depth chart now.
Whichever team trades for JT Miller, they will get a loose cannon in the locker room that even head coach Rick Tocchet (hardly a mild mannered type) couldn’t control.
I'm a Canucks fan. At his best, I love JT Miller's game. He's capable of being a force, especially in the playoffs. But if he's a catalyst for dragging the team down, and he has been going back to when Bo Horvat was traded, he's not helping the team win games. You know who else was a force for the Canucks in the playoffs? Trevor Linden. But Trevor was a fantastic captain and he not only was better, but he made guys around him better, especially when it mattered most. If he's the type of guy who is only on when everyone else is off and visa versa, he's not helping the team succeed. Miller might be able to thrive in a locker room where a strong, commanding, respected leader is there. Somehow I don't think he'd be acting out and trying to take over the locker room with Sid or Malkin there. McDavid, Benn...guys like that would probably be able to handle Miller and put him in his place so that he's shutting up and performing. I'm not saying Quinn is a bad captain. I think he's great. But when you have one guy who is trying to take things over himself and clearly not listening, there's no much you can do except trade him. If Rick Tocchet can't get the best out of him on a consistent basis, he needs to take his $8M and look in the mirror.
Miller is good for short stints. He’ll be great there for a year or two but then will wear on the locker room, and there is no way Keefe will be able to control him
JT Miller to the Devils? That potential trade is interesting particularly because he was drafted by a divisional rival (NY Rangers) for which he played directly or under contract via the then-future Hartford Wolfpack (during the 1st two seasons, following the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, called the Connecticut Whale). Devils also are in a top-three divisional spot (8 points up on a Blue Jackets’ team that’s in fourth in the Metro Division) while his NHL Draft team is 4 points out of one and have to pass six teams just to get back into a playoff spot.
If Jim Rutherford called up Tom Fitzgerald and asked for Nico Hischier for JT Miller, Fitzgerald is hanging up, blocking his number and filing a grievance with the NHL.
This probably won’t happen but a trade that would make sense and be fair would be devils first in 2026 , Simon nemec , and Erik haula who plays center .
If JT Miller is going to the Devils, the Leaf's sure won't be picking up any positional players that they may be looking at from the Devils, that's for sure
Vancouver should get Nemec, Mercer, and a second from NJ. If NYR could counter with Trocheck, Schneider, and a first, they would have to take that. Obviously Miller is the biggest fish on this year's trade bait list. Look what Vancouver had to pay for renting Lindholm last year to gauge the price of the top fish, and Miller isn't a rental. For those looking for one more piece for their Stanley run, if you can get a guy averaging 95 points in the previous three years for $8M cap hit, a fair bit of sandpaper, who can drive the play, you get in on the bidding. I'm looking at Washington, Carolina, NJ, Toronto, Florida, Winnipeg, and Minnesota. Edmonton and Vegas would normally be on that list, but, Van would never trade Miller to either of those divisional teams.
Your trade from the devils is exactly what I was thinking. I’d prefer Miller to go to a good team in a trade and for us to get a bit younger so I’d say that’s a perfect situation
Would love him on the Devils but from what we’ve heard he’s a bit of a locker room head case. Devils are having their own issues internally which have not been made public. Need to trade Nemec + to Seattle or Nashville for a winger and center man
The other thing is Quinn probably has had enough of him, and he talks to Jack a lot. Jack may have relayed some concerning information to Fitz. From what I've seen, he should be playing with Jimmy Butler. They'd make a great pair.
Chicago makes the most sense, and they have the assets/draft pick to make the Nucks happy. Once again Johnson is on glue, nobody wants first round flop Nemec as a return, get real.
