Not sure why I sit watching these videos endlessly lol, somehow very fascinating. You bring something to UA-cam that no one else does…thanks! Greetings from USA
Hi, thank you for watching the video.!
Hi from the USA ,,,,i too enjoy your videos,,i commend all your hard work and the hard work of these boat pilots ,,they are courageous
I was just thinking the same thing, about watching these videos! They are interesting, to say the least! It looks to be the survival of the fittest.
"The captains mentality is not stable in the face of fast flowing water". That's the nicest possible way of pointing out that dude can't drive.
From NW Oregon state, USA, thank you very much for the English subtitles. I enjoy watching your show either way, but it really is nice to understand what you are saying.
Thank you.
Hi, thank you for watching the video.!

I love how they're always wildly spinning the wheel just when they should be going straight!
And why not just let the motor run full for the whole pass?
This happens when you have 10hp when the boat needs 300hp..
Greetings from Finland. Nice to watch your videos from Mekong delta.
Thank you for watching the video
Các anh lái thuyền giỏi thiệt chứ
I like how people just sitting drinking beer and taking bets on who makes it..

I always find myself willing the barges to greater efforts to get through the fast water. I particularly like the captains who steer with their feet. Very cool and experienced.
Yeah they are so relaxed. No problem at all.
Well you know what they say the third time is a charm. That tourist boat captain finally did a little bit of concentration and got his boat through the dam. But that one big barge really had a big crunch.
Enjoy these videos very much here in the United States the last time I was in Vietnam was not a very good time to be there.
Thanks for these great videos
Thank you for watching the video
would have got a huge fine in the us for hitting the bridge like that even small collisions can crack concrete
Thankyou for your service
Thích hành động kéo xuong của thanh niên
If captains ran tow ropes together all could go through like a freight train with momentum.
thats what i say
but some dumbass would let off and sink the whole train

Incredible and compulsive viewing.
It seems that boats with a tiller are easier to control...?
This reminds me of my old underpowered narrowboat on the Thames in London fighting the tide and current at Tower Bridge with 1 metre standing waves.
That's a good place to start a boat tow service business.
Tug boats through and get paid.
Do you think they have enough money for it????

I was going to post the same thing!!! Lol
Hello from ☀️😎🇺🇸☀️
In english, the nose of the boat is the Bow, the back of the boat is the Stern, sides are Gunwalls or Gunnels (from when they used to have cannon pointing through them, they still call them gunwalls)
The long fin sticking out of the bottom all along the length is called the keel, the fin used to steer is called a Rudder.
Hope that helps.
Take care 🇺🇸😎🤝😎🇻🇳
Thank you very much 🇻🇳🤝🇱🇷😀
Excellent Job on filming A day on the dam.
Thanks
Its not the swiftness of the current that's stopping them , its the fact that there is a difference in water level between upstream and down stream of around 1 meter . So the boat motor has got the job of lifting the whole weight of the barge (80 tons) up 1 meter in 10-15 meters . Also it appears to be tidal and the difference would vary thru the day .
I get it
That is not how bouyancy and hydraulics works.
@@Tsamokie How was I wrong !
Well the speed of the water and the drag isn't helping either. Ever been in a fast flowing creek, ankle deep water can blow you over lol
Thus creating the current. That's still what's stopping them. The water moving against them is faster than the prop is spinning the opposite way. The difference in depths is causing the rapid current. i.e. rapids... Caused by obstructions combined with steep elevation changes.

What is the name and place of that dam? Great videos, thank you for uploading them.
This is a dam that regulates water to prevent salinity, keep fresh, and prevent floods. The dam is named Láng Thé, Càng Long district, Trà Vinh province, Vietnam. Hope you can find it on the world map.

7:00 that turbodiesel whine sounds like it's running well past in the red sector. I feel somehow fascinated by how "the rest of the world" just does things that would be illegal and grossly negligent in the U.S.
- "Captain we don't have enough power to go against the flow"
- "I see. Crank up the boost pressure"
- "but sir, it's already at maximum pressure!"
- "well then, set it to 1.5 times the maximum."
- "...but, captain, what if the engine bl-_"
- "JUST DO IT! It didn't blow up last time..."
Thank you for watching the video

Thanks các bác ........ mấy cái máy tàu rất khỏe, tốn nhiều xăng, số 1 việt nam
cant believe how power those old barges have they are old work horses very fun to watch
01:49 Why is he pulling back the throttle all the time? He could have passed three times already 🤔 Anyway I could watch these videos all day. Please more 🤗
I was thinking the same thing. He backed off the throttle just as he entered the gate on his first attempt. Plus he stayed to the right side where it's easy to see there's an eddy that kept pulling him in. Either he has no experience with this type of water or he's new. Watch out if he ever Captains one of those dirt haulers.

what perfection when he pulls the little boat with the rope so good!
Yeah he was totally an expert. SO easy and the boat was through!
Wow these guys are amazing. Our boy Bronco's Guru would love this.
Hi, thank you for watching the video
Cho e hỏi cống này ở đâu mà nguy hiểm quá ạ ?
Cống ngăn mặn ở Trà Vinh bạn nhé
Thanks for making this great video. Are you still going on a trip on a barge?
I don't go cruising on barge
First clip is so frustrating... every time he's almost there he gets off the throttle. All he had to do was just keep on the throttle, clear the dam, and then slow down. Argh!
This is not throttle makes him slow down. There is an area of low water pressure right next to the wall also attracts vessels and pushes them back.
It is a tricky situation there, the slower boats must try to keep one side where the flow is not so fast and he is also trying to turn right as he exits the slipway to move the bow into the slower water, but there is also low pressure between the boat and the wall it tries to draw his boat to the wall, he has to throttle down and manoeuvre away from the wall or he will get jammed against it by the flow, it is a delicate manoeuvre these guys know what they are doing.
Nước chảy siết quá thuyền nhỏ qua cống nguy hiểm
The Captions of the boats need to put rollers on the side so when they rub the side of the gate wall it doesn't drag (slow down) the boat. Not hard to do pvc pipe inside of pvc pipe.
I do love to watch them try and make it, very interesting.
That first guy was too far right and he just couldn't figure it out. His other big mistake was letting off the fuel at the wrong time. At the bridge/dam, they only open one flood gate on the left. This makes a lot more water push from the right and causes a low-pressure eddy to form on the right wall. This is why the boats are pulled to that side. They need to install a normal river lock here.
@@Jonathan.D What is a 'river lock'?
@@tonixxl Google it. Then you can see pictures and videos of how they work. Almost every tanker and container ship has been in a lock. More than likely a lock on the Panama Canal.
@@Jonathan.D Thanks :-)
4:04 yes he could have avoided a collision by not entering that space when he could definitely see there was already that river boat inside

As a dutch person, this triggers my instincts to build locks to help significantly improve ship throughput and safety. Can't help it. MuSt MaNaGe WaTeR :D one question though. it looks like many of the gates are closed. why? are they trying to keep the water high on the upstream side?
Thank you for watching the video. In the future, this place will build a boat lock to overcome the current situation. Saltwater month only opens two dam gates for boats to pass through. If opening many dam gates, fresh water inside the dam will be lost.
@@NGUYENCHELINH that makes a lot of sense!
