I've been selling, supporting, and servicing these in the UK for around 15 years, and they are among the most reliable pieces of kit I've ever worked with.
Your system is superseded by the M2Z, but the principles of operation are the same (much, much faster and more features). Top of the line low voltage tester is now the M4 and we are on serial number 10000+, so you can see how popular they are... In fact, I have three brand new testers that arrived for UK customers today... One M4 low voltage tester and two HVX HiPot testers!
It may be an old tester that you have, but you will get great use from it.
Just be sure to observe good ESD practices as it is a sensitive, precision instrument.
The V4.3.15 software was picky on the USB to Serial adapter. It seem to like the older prolific not the modern prolific or ftdi. Would be nice to have the pin map software also but it is unavailable for older version.
Do you happen to know what the last version of software was that supported M2 serial units?
