  • Having an odd pattern of loose motherboards, but here's the logic board for an Apple Macintosh LC III. It's not booting or making a noise, but it's from the early 1990s, so obviously the capacitors are terrible. Let's see if that gets us to a Happy Mac.

    Oh, man. Subbed! It's nice to watch someone else with my level of tools/kit, and not be depressed when someone's like "well, let me grab my $3000 reflow setup to show you the proper way to remove caps".

    huge fan of the twist-off method! Seriously, I've done thousands of caps that way and I've never screwed up a pad (unlike with hot hair ungluing the pads from the board!)

      I've screwed up one out of thousands, but the pad was already pretty corroded. Sure, I could have probably saved the original pad using reflow/desoldering, but it only took 2 minutes, a replacement pad, some solder mask, and a UV light to fix the issue.
