  • It's been a couple of months now since season 6 of Game of Thrones wrapped up and I can't help but feel a little let down. I'm still a fan of the show but as a hardcore book reader I just had to get my thoughts out on why the quality of story telling between the Book vs Show was so different.
    So Basically...
A Song of Ice and Fire is complex where as Game of Thrones is more in your face, straight to the point. Unreliable narration, seeing through the eyes of many different characters, Ned, Catelyn, Tyrion etc gives the books the edge on this one.

I agree, the books are way better. The first 4 seasons of got where pretty close to the books and had the same feel. But from season 5 onwards, the show feels much more simplefied. I mean seriously the entirety of A Feast for crows and A Dance with dragons was done in 1 season. Look at what they left out: Aegons invasion of westeros, all of Dorne, all of the iron islands ( yes they did it in season 6 but it was a half assed version), Quentyn martell his journey to Meereen, Tyrion his journey has been way more simplefied, and above all, all of the mysteries, sceming and prophecies.
Its really sad to see this. I mean look at season 7, why is everything happening soooo freakin fast! In the books you get way more information and plotting and mysteries. But the show is super predictable nowadays. I hope that when The Winds of winter does finally come out Grr Martin wil prove to everywone that the books are much better then the show.

I agree with everything said in this video. My only real problem is that show watchers will claim something as a fact without realizing that the show at this point is fan faction. And the worst part is it's being ran by two guy's who clearly has their own agenda. I mean D&D flat out came out and said they didn't like Stannis, which show in their writing of the character.

Nene Hitta I lament this very fact. Oh well though we still got the books.

I agree with most of what you said except that the quality of the show absolutely has not gone down and in fact, season 6 is one of the best seasons of the show, overall

I watched your video! A really good opion. I really agree with it:
I don't like season 5&6, a lot story plots are changed.
And also for reasons like they want to show of a lot actors, the best example is Iwan Rheon which you pointed out. They flashed out Ramsay as a character, because they like Rheon so much. But also Alfie Allen, that's why they filmed his face so much, when he get's psychially and physically torturted by Ramsay, because they think it's a strong emotive acting. (from 3.03 till 6.07). When you got that as a viewer, it becomes boring.
But also they also nominate Emilia Clarke every for the Emmys, when she couldn't act very well. (the only season was season 1 and maybe 2) A lot other female actors are better than Emilia.
When they write a story, they need to get from point a to point b, major plotpoints such as Jeyne Poole's rescue or Theon's escape and redemption arc, Jon's death, Stannis' death. But they don't build up that very well, or even ridiculous (like with 20 good men to raid a camp, some snow, the wildlings as the man plotpoint to betray Jon, and not the Pink Letter). They don't care if a characters motivations (Sansa and Petyr Baelish) or even a whole regions are coherent (like the North with it's Great Northern Conspiracy and Moat Cailin).
And because of that in season 5 and 6 and even in season 4 (like with Shae's betrayal) there are a lot plot holes. Like: Why didn't Sansa told Jon about the Knights of the Vale?, Why didn't Jon wait until he had a bigger army, which Sansa told him and go to Wyman Manderly and Lord Cerwyn? How took Littlefinger Moat Cailin with an entire army and Ramsay not knowing about that? Why didn't they chose the road over sea, White Harbor and allied with the Manderlys? Why should the Northern Lords accept a madmen as Warden of the North?
As for information and misinformation: Arya's list is a really god example of that. It's so funny when you watch episode 2 of season 5: she has only 3 people on it. As she know due to telepath that Joffrey died or some other characters of her list die. And in season 6 the citadel isn't even informed that Mormont died when that happend in season 3?

U think the show has gone downhill? Season 6 was amazing and the last 2 episodes won awards and got a 10 outta 10 from critics...

I think the show makes for good TV, after all I'm still watching every episode as they come out. But the story is just so bleh now. I feel like 4th grade English class students could have written it.
