john pooleey A lot of comic books don't start out as a comic book, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Crow, Spawn, And yes Conan were more like graphic novels. However, the did later get developed into comic books before the were made into movies, so they are still technically comic book movies.
I think that I have never laughed so much like I did on this video, specially when you mentioned "I have a bus full of candy..." and "there is an unicorn at the back". You guys are great.
Man I loved your style since Clerks, and most everything you have done, especially Dogma, and I have admit you reminded me of the summer of 84 when I used only two words to express whatever I felt the need to expound on... Wow, Bitchin' I watched Clerks after working in a Cumberland Farms Convenience Store for a year... it floored me. Thank you for steppin' up.
My introduction to Ryan Reynolds was Blade: Trinity. I loved his character, the jokes, the adlibs, the action. Really, he totally threw himself into that role, working out like a madman to get into a heroic figure, giving the character the respect and attention it really needed. He and Jessica Biel really worked their butts off in the gym for that film, taking lessons in their weapons to make their characters feel like they really were skilled in using them, and it showed. In my opinion, Reynolds and Biel made that film work. Biel even got so good with the bow, that one shot actually nailed the camera dead-on in the lens. A beautiful shot, which I think may have even made it into the film (minus the lens impact). I hoped, and half expected, just from the way he treated his character in Blade:Trinity, that he would do justice to Deadpool. The results were even better than I could have imagined. Superb beyond words. God Bless Ryan Reynolds!
*sigh* I fucking love you guys. Honestly, I thank you. When I'm having a bad day and on the verge of having an anxiety attack but see you have a new video- it all melts away. I love how you explain things and, although it's a very serious review, it's so fucking funny. Again- Kevin, Mark, and crew-members-I-don't-know-the-names-of...thank you
If you think about it, when the comic book movie craze started back in 2001 with X-Men, kids who saw that movie and then continued with Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man etc etc were teenagers then and are now into their 20s, so of course you have your adult fan base.
+Kevin Smith So... what happened to the review/news/utility belt on our weekly stories (Flash, Arrow, etc) and the schedule? Thought it was supposed to be mon/wed/fri? I don't think a single week has actually had the schedule you guys laid out...
I'm still hoping in the next 10 or so years we get that Thomas Wayne Flashpoint Paradox Batman. The one that just goes out and murders every single villain. That is the Batman we need to have.
Good info in this episode! I was going to google tons of things you mentioned like the comics version of Negasonic Teenage Warhead and stuff like that. Its exciting times for us comic book nerds for sure. No wonder they nominated Mad Max, they finally recognize that us 80s kids are the ones that drive the mega franchise movie success!
Hello Kevin. Just saw your newest appearance on Movie Fights, and I really wish you would have gone with Tombstone. Tombstone has been my personal answer for a lot of things on that show, but I have yet to hear it argued on it. Since you guys where talking about Seven Lang playing Cable, and since he was in that movie, I thought I might mention it. Would love to hear your thoughts on Tombstone at some point. If you have talked about it before on a Podcast, maybe you or a kind fan could point me in that direction. Fucking love Tombstone, and it's amazing when you learn that Kurt Russell did most of the production and writing stuff for the movie himself just to make it great I think he was even the person that edited most of the movie, too..
Matthew Yates Yes. But it was still a high class R rated comic book movie. Conan back in 1982 was an R rated comic book movie that was a box office success. The Crow in 93 did the same. Blade was too.
Kevin Smith talks about how fun Deadpool was , but sells himself short. Kevin went all out years ago with Jay And Silent Bob Strikes Back.. Saw it in theaters and had INSANE fun. KS, you could do anything you want, Sir !
Sounds like Kevin Smith movies! You ever see one of those things?! They're all like "Follow your dreams!" and "Love conquers all!" It's like watching Disney with shit demons and donkey shows!
The mask's emoting came via CGI enhancment, but they underplayed it perfectly so it looked normal. Not going to call out anyone by name on this, but a certain production which rhymes with Bpider-Man should take notes.
+Rolf Hartmann the spiderman suit looks like the one from the 60s 70s comics, the eyes were expressed like that too in the comics, in the trailer when he zooms in sounds like something mechanical, maybe tony has something to do with it
2tooful Yes, Deadpool's style has always intentionally aped Spider-Man's, but the innovation the makers of Deadpool had of making the mask more emotive (which better matches the comics) has clearly caught on quickly.
Maybe it's just me but I couldn't help thinking of the month Python 4 Yorkshireman sketch when wade and Vanessa were doing the whole sorry upbringing routine. Brilliant
watching this video makes me feel nostalgic for the old days. first off Deadpool was an awesome movie. but you reminded me of the dark days before the first X-Men. I remember when 16 years old, sitting in the break room of the grocery store I worked at having an argument with a guy named Lucas Sparks( he looked exactly how his name is sounds) about who we would cast in an X-Men movie if they were ever to make one. our biggest argument was over who would play Charles Xavier. he had a list that included Ben Kingsley I think, I turn to him and said "you know who would be a great Charles Xavier?" then I started making a case for Captain Picard, then I followed it up with he'll probably never do it he's busy with Star Trek. His response to this was that he wasn't awful choice and that would never happen. I bet him fifty bucks, and I never could find them after the movie came out.
So great hearing you guys rave about this movie. Blur Studio has already made the best Batman (Arkham Origins), Star Wars, and Justice League movies. If you haven't seen their cinematic trailers for SWTOR (Return, Deceived, and Hope) and DCU Online (Who Do You Trust) you absolutely have to even if you have no interest in playing those games. They are that amazing and masterfully accomplish what most mainstream films never do in the shortest form imaginable..
I really hope they put Wolverine in the next Deadpool movie. They can actually have him wear his bananas yellow costume and have him just fucking eviscerate people with his claws. They can even reference that shitty X Men Origins movie they were in together. It would be glorious.
The hidden brilliance is that DeadPool breaks the fourth wall but Wade Wilson never does. All scenes of Wade Wilson pre-Deadpool pre-costume he never breaks it.
Make the next episode about DC Kevin! How you gonna say your Batman's Fatman and not even mention the trailer! Also how about the Flash? And how's Legends going? I loved Deadpool but the last two episodes have been interviews about an actor in the Dark Knight and Ant Man! We want to hear what what you and Marc think of current DC stuff too!
+Roper122 nah not losing my mind lol but am disappointed that the show with Batman in the name now looks like it's headed for excess 12 days before they mention the final trailer of the next film with Batman in it. Obviously a Deadpool episode was coming, but I was voicing the opinion that sometimes they do go on for quite a while without even touching current events, which is why I brought up that the last 2 episodes were an interview with an actor who had a larger part in Ant Man than the DK, and their podcast episodes have a habit of being reruns of the UA-cam channel, which is what the most recent podcast is. So I was trying to give them feedback on how lately they've fallen into a trend of just talking about comic culture in general, which is great, but when I see "Batman" in the title I go in expecting them to not take two weeks to mention Batman.
***** It's never been totally Batman, but Im sure they'll get to it. It's only a bit of extra footage. All depends on whether it's a slow news week or not. Don't you think that they're going to go crazy over Batman in the next month? And come on... the guy from Dark Knight was a pretty good get. He was in Ant-Man more, but he was much more noticeable in Dark Knight.
+Nathan Lindsey sorry to butt into the conversation here but where do I go to find Kevins other content? I know about the Seesmod channel but is there another place? where is the other podcast?
+Roper122 the channel has never been totally Batman but the podcast it started from used to be, so I guess I'm one of those old listeners that have to deal with the changes lol. But yeah, I agree with all your points, I was just leaving feedback on the direction I feel the show is going. They've been telling us for months "wait for the movie then we'll have tons of Batman" and I'm sure that's true, but like I said, the main thing that upset me was the lack of talking about the trailer, which again, I agree with you they will get to it, but it's only like 2 and a half minutes long so I wish they would've touched it already because a 45 minute breakdown of a short trailer makes for a boring episode and they're likely to bring up the other DC stuff I mentioned in the same show and if they're just going to Ave it as one of many topics I had hoped they would've fit it in already. This was all just my opinion lol I didn't mean for it to come off as angry or crazy
I don't want to see Batman Cuss lol I don't think it fits with him or the Joker and Harley. But the blood and violence does, that would go well but if you start making Batman saying, "Fuck you, I'm Batman" for the sake of rated R well you're doing it wrong.
How the hell have I not seen this show before? INSTANT subscribe! I'm looking forward to the extended cut DVD release of this movie, outtakes and all. Great show guys ;)
Yup....I saw it on Valentine's Day, and as the end credits began, the entire theater applauded. I cant remember the last time I ever experienced that in a theater. One of the most amazing comic adaptations Ive seen.
Throughout all the ups and downs of amazing sci-fi and comic book movies since Star Wars (Hamill, Guiness, Harrelson) and Superman (Reeves) up until now, you two are speaking the absolute truth about the shit that is going on, and the thoughts in my head. I love everything you guys do!
She did like it: Or at least the first 30 minutes. She even claimed that she would give it the grade B. She had gripes with the lack of budget and the depowering of a female character. But didn't not like it.
everyone keeps talking about how much $$$ every new movie grosses and noone seems to take into account the fact that ,for example:when i went to see The Empire Srikes Back at a drive in it cost 2.00$ for everyone in the car, whereas i just had to pay 22.50$ to see Batman V Superman. Is it just me?

I'm not sure many people recognized 2 jokes from Monty Python in Deadpool. 1. joke is the scene where Ryan meets Morena in that bar when they exchange their history. And 2. joke is when Deadpool fights Collossus. :D
Deadpool was A-Fucking-mazing.!!!!! Saw it twice in theaters, I own it now. The moment I got home after buying it, I not only watched it, but the second it was over,I watched it again!! Immediately became one of my all time favorite movies EVER!!!!!!! Can't get enough! Classic!
When Deadpool appears in a PG 13 movies. Deadpool: I'm not chopping anyone's head today. Colosus: Glad to hear it....but what finally changed your mind? Deadpool: Money! Colosus: hummmmmm...
I live in Hamilton, Ontario, and quite a few films get shot here. I remember, on a nightly basis, for about a month, walking home through the stretch of downtown Hamilton, that was made to look like a grungy New York street, where the Hulk and the Abomination fought it out on, in the movie.
R-rated movies aren't the new thing. Kingsman, Punisher, Kick-Ass, 30 Days of Night, Blade, Watchmen, 300, Dredd, and Sin City. This was a fanboy wet dream, and not the audience. It's everyone that was in making it happen, showing that much heart into the work. Now if someone would pull Micheal Bay away from the Transformers and TMNT movies, and put a fanboy into those worlds. Because it shows that he doesn't give a fuck. The fandom will pay to watch, hell look at TF4 with how much it made and people disliked it. Look at JJ and Star Wars. He knew it wasn't just a movie, he had hopes, dreams and people's prays on his shoulders. I don't know about other comic book R-rated films to come. But I believe the X-Universe will become the stepping stone again just like X-Men did. I think McFarlane said he wanted to go R, back in the day. Now thinks it'll be easier to pitch and have a newer movie made thanks to Deadpool.
I need to say- when I clocked o this link (from UA-cam) it said 916K views, I had remembered watching and liking this video, literally as soon as I got home from the theater. I hate spoilers, so I avoid reviews like the plague until I see the film. But, even though UA-cam said 900k+ views, that's not what it says now, on the video, but it doesn't show my previous like. I still like this video, and will re-like it, but UA-cam WAS lying when they told me nearly a million views, or ARE lying now, about view numbers. Either way (which may be in your favor) UA-cam just lied to me about this video, and that is wrong.
I thought that overall this movie was pretty solid and I had a couple of good laughs but I thought that most of the humor was just childish humor with no depth to it, I feel like most of the people who thought this movie was hilarious were in middle school. No hate at all, just my opinion. Sorry if I triggered you
Most of the people who liked the movie were fans of Deadpool the character. The reason people hold the movie so high in regard is because they got Deadpool's characterization PERFECT! Deadpool is childish, so it would make no sense for the movie to be filled with intelligent or subtle humor. I understand and respect your opinion, but I'm just trying to explain why everyone loved the movie.
+The King of Queen I just see that flick as more vampire/horror than your traditional superhero. Your point is valid though, and I dig the hell out of the movie.
+The King of Queen Funny you say that, but Blade Trinity is why Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool today. He says a Fox executive saw his scenes in Blade Trinity and called him to say that he would make a great Deadpool. Ryan did not know who Deadpool was and the first comic he read was the one that DP says he looks like a cross between Ryan Reynolds and a Shar Pei.
+ellrick And it wasn't the first R-rated comic book movie either. The Crow came out years before it, and there were probably few others even before that one.
Deadpool was part of X-Force awhile back with Wolverine, Warpath, Wolfsbane, Hepzibah, Caliban, and X-23. Later Archangel, Domino, and, Elixir joined. Psylocke, Fantomex, and finally Deadpool. Even the villain Vanisher became part of X-Force.
YAY! New episode! I dont read any Deadpool comics and LOVED the movie cos I know just enough about him and the universe to get it all and the easter eggs. I was laughing ALL the way through. Im so excited for all the upcoming X-Men films now. Match the source material. Im more hopeful for Gambit and the next Wolverine film...oh and Xforce.
This entire video is awesome. One of my favorite parts is Marc quoting Malkovich/Rounders. I love that movie and it's so underrated imo. I'm so stoked DP did well and personally, if we do get X-Force, keeeeeeen for Sam Guthrie aka Cannon Ball!

john pooleey A lot of comic books don't start out as a comic book, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Crow, Spawn, And yes Conan were more like graphic novels. However, the did later get developed into comic books before the were made into movies, so they are still technically comic book movies.
no because the source material is not a comic.
Cheers from across the pond. My missus and I love these. Thanks to all involved for making them.
Ah. Hoping to hear some talk on the final BvS trailer.
I think that I have never laughed so much like I did on this video, specially when you mentioned "I have a bus full of candy..." and "there is an unicorn at the back". You guys are great.
Deadpool was ALWAYS Canadian. hence why Ryan Reynolds was perfect for the role
Deadpool made for $54m, now taken over $330m. Well done Ryan Reynolds. I never thought I'd say that.
Actually before Blade was The Crow and Tank Girl... both rated R
*sigh* I fucking love you guys. Honestly, I thank you. When I'm having a bad day and on the verge of having an anxiety attack but see you have a new video- it all melts away. I love how you explain things and, although it's a very serious review, it's so fucking funny. Again- Kevin, Mark, and crew-members-I-don't-know-the-names-of...thank you
Yep I love Deadpool. Thank you Fox you finally got it right!!
Keep up the great podcasts and videos... fan since day 1! You guys make my week geekier and happier.
"Ben you owe me nothing, except career" LOLZ
Love this edition because you guys are tapping into something, a deep geek analysis that I really can get into.
i never get bored while watching Deadpool again and again...man its awesome...its goonnaa be classic
If you think about it, when the comic book movie craze started back in 2001 with X-Men, kids who saw that movie and then continued with Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man etc etc were teenagers then and are now into their 20s, so of course you have your adult fan base.
SPAWN R nuff said
Fuck yes
Hell fucking yea!
Hell fucking yea!
R rated Spawn is in production and actually the screenplay just was just finished being written by Todd Macfarlane (Creator of Spawn)
+LastRonin Id love to see Idris Elba as Al Simmons/Spawn.. It'll never happen but it would be awesome.
Kev, you mentioned Sandman in your "want to see R-rated" - your buddy Johnny Depp would make a killer Sandman! Great work guys keep it up
"you owe me nothing...except your career" classic
+Kevin Smith So... what happened to the review/news/utility belt on our weekly stories (Flash, Arrow, etc) and the schedule? Thought it was supposed to be mon/wed/fri?
I don't think a single week has actually had the schedule you guys laid out...
I'm still hoping in the next 10 or so years we get that Thomas Wayne Flashpoint Paradox Batman. The one that just goes out and murders every single villain. That is the Batman we need to have.
The Crow with Branden Lee was the first R rated movie that came from a comic.
Ahem... the first Rated R comic book movie was 1989's The Punisher (there's probably one before that)
+DJ Kento was Swamp thing R or PG13?
LogicNerd 87 neither. it was PG.
+DJ Kento Conan 1982
Main_Man Heavy Metal 1981/Fritz the Cat 1972 and that's it...
But for super hero based comic book films it goes to The Punisher.
Dude, I gotta know...did you push your glasses up with one finger before typing that? Lol. In all seriousness though, nice pull with the '89 Punisher.
Deadpool has been the social media hero for so many years now, pretty sure the majority of the audience just know him from all the memes...
If you do a R rated batman, then I think it should be the Red Hood(jason todd) story line.
or The Killing Joke
+TheSwordnhand
The killing joke isn't even long enough for an animated movie, they had to put more story in it just to get it as long as its gonna be
The cult.
Gotham by gaslight would be cool too.
This/An Elseworlds/Collection of shorts which focused on 3 or 4 stories would be awesome.
Tim Miller really does have a bright future ahead of him
Hello Kevin.
Who remembers another well made comic book movie that was rated R and had a great cast and premise? It was called 'Dredd'.
It was a box office failure unfortunately. Deadpool is setting box office records.
Matthew Yates Yes. But it was still a high class R rated comic book movie. Conan back in 1982 was an R rated comic book movie that was a box office success. The Crow in 93 did the same. Blade was too.
Blade was siiiccckkk!!!!
They're all like "Follow your dreams!" and "Love conquers all!" It's like watching Disney with shit demons and donkey shows!
the fact they have made the next wolverine r rated i wont be suprised if it is a cross of deadpool and wolverine
+nextgendg9 supposed to be old man Logan story
+Matt Baker Old man Logan plus Deadpool? It's like Grumpy Old Men with blood and bullets.
only one movie, Tusk and don't watch it.
Man I love watching this on UA-cam so glad they started the channel
The mask's emoting came via CGI enhancment, but they underplayed it perfectly so it looked normal. Not going to call out anyone by name on this, but a certain production which rhymes with Bpider-Man should take notes.
Nah the eyes are bigger it would look weird
Check out the new Civil War trailer and then tell me they're not going to use it ;-)
+Rolf Hartmann the spiderman suit looks like the one from the 60s 70s comics, the eyes were expressed like that too in the comics, in the trailer when he zooms in sounds like something mechanical, maybe tony has something to do with it
2tooful
Yes, Deadpool's style has always intentionally aped Spider-Man's, but the innovation the makers of Deadpool had of making the mask more emotive (which better matches the comics) has clearly caught on quickly.
Nothing rhymes with Bpider-Man.
Maybe it's just me but I couldn't help thinking of the month Python 4 Yorkshireman sketch when wade and Vanessa were doing the whole sorry upbringing routine. Brilliant
I also want a Return of the Quick Stop, Jay and Silent Bob the Bong Awakens
Just watched it last night with my girlfriend. Both loved it. Some of the jokes fell a bit flat but it was excellent and Reynolds is superb.
Have I missed a podcast talking about the latest BvS trailer? Is it next week? Are you just going to skip it?
watching this video makes me feel nostalgic for the old days. first off Deadpool was an awesome movie. but you reminded me of the dark days before the first X-Men.
Wade Wilson is most deff Canadian lol
So great hearing you guys rave about this movie. Blur Studio has already made the best Batman (Arkham Origins), Star Wars, and Justice League movies. If you haven't seen their cinematic trailers for SWTOR (Return, Deceived, and Hope) and DCU Online (Who Do You Trust) you absolutely have to even if you have no interest in playing those games. They are that amazing and masterfully accomplish what most mainstream films never do in the shortest form imaginable..
Kevin Nash could make a good Cable.
That X Force artist pic was Warpath, Cable, DOMINO (not X 23) and Rachel Summers, if I'm not mistaken.
+Nathan Lindsey Steady on... you get heaps of DC stuff. One episode on Deadpool and you lose your mind?
One of the best lines in the movie was at the end when Vanessa told Wade he had a face she would love to sit on.
Goddamnit Kevin I want to hear your thoughts on the latest Flash episodes not Deadpool damnit.. I did love deadpool though
+brocksdaddy081910 that earth 2 scene when he called his mom
That's an amazing idea. I'd love to watch Kevin review flash episodes!!!
+KevWebsz holy shit man i almost cried like half the episode but that scene tore me apart
+Seamus Pautz they used to....
+Jimmy Greer I agree totally but that doesn't mean he can't talk about both.
Yup....I saw it on Valentine's Day, and as the end credits began, the entire theater applauded. I cant remember the last time I ever experienced that in a theater.
One of the most amazing comic adaptations Ive seen.
Hey u guys forgot Watchmen! I think that's rated R too...
Grace Randolph didnt like it!!! with bunch of lame reasons
I literally disagree with her almost all the time
She did like it: Or at least the first 30 minutes. She even claimed that she would give it the grade B. She had gripes with the lack of budget and the depowering of a female character. But didn't not like it.
+Thanos Titan language
+DJGOLFVR6 she didnt like it because it was deadpool
Fuck that bitch
I somehow got 27:08 minutes in and realized this wasn't the Deadpool 2 movie review.
High move of the century.
everyone keeps talking about how much $$$ every new movie grosses and noone seems to take into account the fact that ,for example:when i went to see The Empire Srikes Back at a drive in it cost 2.00$ for everyone in the car, whereas i just had to pay 22.50$ to see Batman V Superman. Is it just me?
Why the Silent Bob has it taken me this long to find this channel. You are my spirit animal Kevin Smith!
Deadpool is MA15+ in Australia
+Detective Marvel was just about to say this....imagine how much further they'd have to have gone to get it an R over here! I must admit i did feel awkward with a 13 year old near me while Wade was trying to take it from behind haha!
+hirogen101 Maybe they can step it up to an Australian hard R
+Detective Marvel haha they wouldn't be able to view it in the US, audiences would explode! AHHHHHHH!!!! Nipple!!! TURN IT OFF!!!! WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!
+hirogen101 Hahaha, for all the hard R talk they do in the US they couldn't even give us a money shot of her.
Movie was awesome though😊
+Detective Marvel , I think it was censored in Australia, because I didn't see any dicks that others are saying were flopping around.
I'm not sure many people recognized 2 jokes from Monty Python in Deadpool. 1. joke is the scene where Ryan meets Morena in that bar when they exchange their history. And 2. joke is when Deadpool fights Collossus. :D
2017 golden globe comedy best actor
I was riiiiiiiiiiight
Deadpool was A-Fucking-mazing.!!!!! Saw it twice in theaters, I own it now. The moment I got home after buying it, I not only watched it, but the second it was over,I watched it again!! Immediately became one of my all time favorite movies EVER!!!!!!! Can't get enough! Classic!
When Deadpool appears in a PG 13 movies.
Deadpool: I'm not chopping anyone's head today.
Colosus: Glad to hear it....but what finally changed your mind?
Deadpool: Money!
Colosus: hummmmmm...
Frederic Beaudet PERFECT
Gay
Sorry if I triggered you
but Deadpool's humor IS indeed childish with no depth!
Juan Sanchez
101% agreed! can u imagine a serious intelectual humor from Deadpool? FAIL!
WOW, MARC JUST MADE MY DAY, I was going to comment about The Authority and he mentioned it.
Blade might have been rated R, bit it was hardly a superhero movie.
+bravesirkevin But what was The Crow's rating in UK?
15 minutes in and huge points made already. Source material and all. great, appreciate your opinion.
Deadpool was an awesome movie. I loved it. Thanks for sharing.
Don't take my words as gospel Clerks Vs. Deadpool on rotten tomatoes is 88 vs 84 respectively
I went to see Deadpool with my 57 year old mom. She loved it and said I can't imagine anyone else but Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
260 million! It earned every penny. Well, most pennies. Great review. Just putting another request out there for the Nolanverse Commentaries. Your work is much appreciated folks, keep it coming!
Hey Mark, just a minor correction - of modern superhero comic films, THE CROW, is the first R rated comic book film, not Blade.
+Kevin Smith CORRECTION: Blade is not the first R-rated comic book movie. There's 1989 Punisher.. Time cop ... (Can we count Flesh Gordon?)
Surprised they didn't mention or maybe didn't realize but at the end the final fight, the thing they are on is a hellicarrier, from Avengers and Captain America: Winter Soldier.
