1941 Cadillac owned by the Duke of Windsor

- This is the 1941 Cadillac, built by Harley Earl and Alfred P. Sloan, for Edward VIII, the former King of England. Edward and his American bride, Wallis Simpson, loved the car so much they named it "The Duchess."
Missing since 1952, I found the car in a Texas barn and have spent the past 10 years researching and restoring it to its original glory. Every nut and bolt has been painstakingly returned to its 1941 condition and appearance. To read more about the car, visit my website: www.morganmurphy.co - Авто та транспорт
Wish Cadillac can come back with such Glorious products again
They made such prestigious Cars , desirable with a touch of class
Lovely addition to Steve's amazing collection.
The caption "Owned by the King of England" is wrong. He'd abdicated 3 years before buying this car.
wasn't even lasted a year as a king haha
@@sodapop83 And the car has outlasted him well and truly! It's still going strong, but he died almost 50 years ago.
@@graemedurie9094 beautiful car
@@sodapop83 Perhaps telling that they chose a Cadillac rather than a Packard, or even a Lincoln
@@graemedurie9094 i'm looking at them rn, those ones look like trucks. this one is dainty
Had the l pleasure of seeing this beauty last night. Thanks, Steve !!
It has that Rolls-Royce look a decade before Rolls-Royce did...
Fantastic. Thank you for sharing this video.
wow - the epitome of elegance. If only today's Cadillacs had one tenth that amount of joie de viver !!!!
It was not owned by the King of England, as he had abdicated the throne 5 years prior to 1941. The King of England was his brother.
Nice car but Edward was not the King of England when he owned that car. He had been fired from that job
He wasn't fired. He quit!
don't quibble we all know that
@@JM-lw3nx He quit and then conspired with Hitler to try to regain the throne. He encouraged Germany to bomb London in order to get them to surrender. All that aside, it is a lovely car.
THE WORD IS ABDICATE @@retroguy9494

A work of art.
Beautiful car. Made shortly before Cadillac shifted over production to the war effort
Very beautifull and elegant 🇺🇲
And now we know where Buick's "Sweepspere" side body line comes from starting in '46.
Beautiful Automobile!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When America made the best cars.
if it is still for sale contact me

Omg! Is harry and meg reincarnation of ed and Wallace? That is creepy!
Hardly.............Liz approved of their marriage. However, Camilla IS a direct descendent of Mrs. Keppel who was the mistress of King Edward VII.
Charles should've taken his great-uncle's move and stepped aside for
William to ascend to the throne, as Charles, a divorced adulterer, married
to a divorced adulterer is not morally fit to succeed Elizabeth, the Great.
Where did they get their money, if they were so despised?
Interesting question. Edward foresaw the future and hoarded money, literally taking a couple million with him when he left England. This was not known so he begged his brother, King George VI for a pension which he received despite objections from the Queen Mother at the time. Also, he was quite loved in other places in the world, including the Unites States. Many places would comp him. He had a suite in the Waldorf Astoria which he paid next to nothing for because Conrad Hilton, who owned it at the time, liked him. Hilton did the same for Douglas MacArthur even putting in the contract when he sold the Waldorf the new owner could never raise the rent on him!
@@retroguy9494 Thanks, interesting!

I remember when they visited Houston, they were comped a suite at the Warwick Hotel. It was great publicity for the hotel to have them staying there.
@Whirlmode Flutter While I have read there is plenty of evidence that HE was a Nazi sympathizer (due in great part to Hitler saying he would return him to the throne if he he conquered England) there really is no evidence that SHE was also. I think she was just along for the ride. And the SS United States was no tramp steamer. It was, in its day, a VERY luxurious ship. And it still holds the record for the fastest ocean liner to make the Atlantic crossing. Its still around too. In Philadelphia. Only its falling apart. Its a big rust bucket.
In the late 1950s , he also had an elongated wheel based , Cadillac shooting break. ( what I believe people today refer to as an estate car and if elongated - stretched ! ). It was a monstrously ugly thing but of practical use . The Duke had a great affection for things American because of his wife and why not I say ! And on another note , I’m still undecided as to whether he , Edward was a traitor or just a wretchedly stupid , naive and misguided fool whom wanted to avoid another cataclysmic war at all costs. I think he was somewhat naive and easily duped by Germany at the time but he certainly felt things keenly and admired how Hitler had pulled Germany out of poverty and created work for the people. That was admirable to a degree.?..Until we discovered what was really going on . Hitler’s vile and sadistic murderous mania , followed by too many of his henchmen of the same ilk and I hope that will never be forgotten nor forgiven . I won’t accept their defence that they were merely “ following orders “ . Lest we forget .
Should read 'lump of junk, owned by a' Traitor'
Advocating your thrown doesn't make you a trader, it's the culture that told this king he couldn't marry the woman of his choice, good for him telling them to fuck off...
