I just switched to plant base eating about 6 weeks ago. I remember, 3 years ago, going for yearly exam and reviewing my lab results. The doctor told me my protein level was low and to “eat more meat!” I was eating mostly junk food at the time and I was told, “more meat.” Oh boy, I thought, and did exactly that. 😮what a mistake. I love plant based eating because I feel good and lost 8 pounds without trying. Thank you for all the information you give us and inspiration. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
After being type 2 on Metformin for a few decades ... my husband and I became plant based . I lost 90# and Bill lost 130#... and my diabetes was gone. In covid years we gained some back eating fast food vegan. So this past summer we cleaned up our act. My diabetes that had returned left .. my A1C is 4.9. We are still slowly losing weight. Love these kick starters .
Oh, I am so jealous, Snigguhc! I’m 73, a type 2, and I really struggle with my bg. I had a TIA in August 2023, and I’ve lost about 25 pounds without really thinking about it. My bg is still a struggle, however. I am so sick of taking a ton of pills (even more since the TIA) and that shot of insulin each night. My dream is the day I get to give up Metformin, Glimiperide, and insulin. Meanwhile, I’m just plugging along, extremely glad that I love beans, lentils, veggies and fruit.
You are helping me out tremendously. I didn’t know how much protein we consumed when eating a plant base diet. Presently I am faced with cancer and I believe this can help me overcome what I am facing.
Love the 'what i eat in a day' kinds of videos are really helpful. Ann & Jane would be would be great if they could do this. Family meals that Esselstyns have. How you guys do the holidays family meals?
I went to a family practice doctor last year and the first thing she asked me " Where do u get your protein.? " I never went back to her again. The only reason I saw her is the my other primary doc left the practice but she knew and took me off 1 of my b/p medications. Wow. So different. I did find a new doctor that did not ask me but did make sure that I take Vit B 12. So some doctors r clueless to a plant based lifestyle. I lost 25 lbs have 20 more to go. Thank u to the Fire Engine 2 cookbook . I love my food . Actually, beets are the only vegetables that will bleed 4 u. !!!!
Because I'm always on a diet, I do eat a dose of isolated pea protein in the a.m. just as a safety net. Because I don't eat that many calories, some of the protein I do eat gets burned as fuel instead of being used for maintenance and repair. I learned that fact years ago. If you limit calories, you really DO need a little bit more protein.
Hi Rip. Thanks for all the questions you answer for us. I recently learned to make soy yogurt, and love it. What do you think of soy yogurt? Is it too much protein, and/or too much fat to eat with my wfpb, no sos plan? Love the way you talk about eating whole.
Rip said that he could live off sweet potatoes by all it's abundant macro's and micro's, but how much sweet potatoes should you eat in a day to hit your nutrient needs and what about the white potatoes?
My partner is supporting me on my whole foods plant based diet but she has low blood pressure and her pressure drops too low to the point that she is dizzy. Any recommendations for how to avoid this?
27:21 I lived on Okinawa for nearly 3 years and very few Okinawans follow the so called Okinawan diet. Those who do follow that diet live in very rural areas and are not mainstream Okinawans.
I actually am low in iron, hemoglobin, potassium, sodum, magnesium at times. My caregiver understood it was because I don't eat anough food sometimes. I'm on a WFPB diet. I just can't eat a lot of food at one time. But I got my A1C to 5.3 and am losing weight . So I'm sure I'm doing the best possible thing for me.
I try and get 10% of my calories from protein. It’s usually around 15% - I’ve read a lot about longevity benefits of low protein from Valter Longo and others. Im curious about the optimal protein consumption.
A friend of mine has breast cancer, although her breast has healed some of the cancer has spread. She has type O blood and she says that when you have type O blood you have to have heme iron that you only can get from animals. She says she would probably be a vegetarian except for the fact that she needs animals for heme iron with her type O blood. The last time she was in the hospital she did have to have an Iron Infusion. Is she right about heme iron with type O blood?
I really loved this interview. I do have a question, though. Why would our bodies only be made to eat plant food if our bodies also need b12? From the dawn of time, our ancestors didn't have b12 pills or always have access to nori. This is the only problem I have with it because I love plant based. If we're relying on plants to be the perfect package, they miss the mark a little. Also, the Okinawans, according to that study, still ate meat and animal products, just very sparingly- like around 3%.
B12 used to had from eating dirt clinging to vegetables. We wash our vegetables thoroughly. Too thoroughly according to some experts. We also grow them in soil that is largely devoid of healthy microbial life due to modern farming practices.
Australia needs intervention !!!!! we have nothing here that gives you the tools to get on board or keep going .. it all comes from the USA which is a shame ... I am wondering why the GP/ Specialist s from around the world are not coming here to do sessions with the general public or our GP's / specialists... there are a lot of medical practitioners that are ignorant and do not want to know about plant based eating... Could someone please send me the pdf / link to the protein chart please. we do not get the products you have in the USA
People who followed a plant-based diet-like vegetarians, lacto-ovo-vegetarians, and “flexitarians,” who consume meat no more than three times per week-were 39% less likely to contract COVID compared to omnivores. Researchers came to this conclusion after correcting for other potentially influential factors like BMI, pre-existing medical conditions, and physical activity levels, according to the paper, published late Tuesday in BMJ Nutrition, Prevention, & Health
With limited food availability people needed more calorie dense foods. That's not the case for most people now. Now it's more of a "people love to hear good news about their bad habits" type thing.
No. You need LOW FAT and low simple carbs (junk food). Read Cyrus Khambatta’s Mastering diabetes book. You’ll also easily find him here on you tube. Best wishes!
Of course we do need B12, but the dosage is dependent on our current levels. For example, to maintain our already good levels, we need approximately 2000mcg per week. It could be once a week, or 1000mcg twice a week.
LOVE, my Family gives me sooo MUCH crap! I'm an RN for 17 years and CANNOT even BEGIN to describe how MUCH I've seen as far as the super poor food choices and the consequences they bring.
Love your channel and brand! But, feeling disappointed that you at first asked the folks on Zoom to ask questions but then didn’t take those questions to answer.
Rip.... your lecture is so interesting and you speak at a great rate so it's easy to absorb.

Such a great episode, thank you. This is so important and helpful for vegans/vegetarians new & old. (Nice to see ya, Rip!)

How do we combine plant foods to have a complete protein with all 9 amino acids?
Rip said that he could live off sweet potatoes by all it's abundant macro's and micro's, but how much sweet potatoes should you eat in a day to hit your nutrient needs and what about the white potatoes?
White potatoes such as Idaho are considered the junk food potato, eat red, yellow, purple and sweet potatoes ECT.
My partner is supporting me on my whole foods plant based diet but she has low blood pressure and her pressure drops too low to the point that she is dizzy. Any recommendations for how to avoid this?
Shell & Bob here in chilly Wisconsin. Ready to learn
I was just looking for plant protein recommendations
He said just eat plants and you'll get protein.
I'm new. 65 and Just learning, from Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. Big switch from keto engrained but i'm working on it.
23:27 i love you information, but how do you get 7 grams of protein from just 2 grams of increased total volume?
Are any of the Plant Strong products available in Canada yet?
Thanks Cory for the chart idea. Appreciate
Can I still get the 30% of Multigrain 30?
What kind of bread should I eat if I have gluten allergy Thank you

I don’t eat bread very often due to it upsets my gut so is there something to replace the bread

The better question is what is the optimal diet. With a WFPB diet you have no worries.
Please send me the pizza guide. Already been on this diet for 11 years. Lost 60 lps when i switched

Best morning protein that won’t cause constipation

Why do you eat so much protein if you support a low protein diet? Genuine curiosity, the messages seem mixed
Every thing you just mention is high in potassium, what would you recommend to someone on a low potassium diet?
Can I still get the pizza link?
Gosh, the Blue Zones get picked on often. Use the protein calculator if you need a metric. Im good with getting around 80 grams of protein.
What in the world does Janky mean?
Is there a gluten free version of Rip’s Big Bowl cereal?
@No name it’s not vegan because of the animal based D3.
Listening from Lynchburg VA 😊
Can you send me the pizza guide? Thank you!
🌱 plant strong
Would like the pizza guide please and thank you.
So many wholesome diets promoting the intake of bone broth, butter, lard. It's so confusing.
Some plants are good to eat and so are some meats. We don't have to choose one way of eating over the other.
With limited food availability people needed more calorie dense foods.
That's not the case for most people now. Now it's more of a "people love to hear good news about their bad habits" type thing.
Did you mean microgram instead of milligrams with Vitamin b12?
Which Ezekiel bread has 7 grams of protein per slice? The original has 5g. I don't see any with more than that per slice.
I would like the pizza guide!!
Sorry I missed the live event but I’m happy I’m able to catch the replay..

question: how much or do plant eaters need vitamin B12 and how much per day please if needed...
Of course we do need B12, but the dosage is dependent on our current levels. For example, to maintain our already good levels, we need approximately 2000mcg per week. It could be once a week, or 1000mcg twice a week.
