Watching this makes me miss my GD STi. I have a modded VA now but long for the good old days! I am on equal length headers for the first time. A different sound experience for sure. --Michael
Love ur white Sti bro! You definitely gained a sub here! I really wanna keep up with it to follow along with the journey.. I swear if I owned one , it would be identical to urs. Everything you’ve done with it is just....PERFECT!👌🏽
I think you lucked out on the fitment. I had the old version of these on my swapped rs that cracked so I got a new set. The new set looks just like yours but the fitment was way off on the uppipe so I had to send them back and get a replacement (this was just a few months ago). It also helps in your case that you have a flex in the uppipe right at the header, mine is in the middle of the uppipe so was almost impossible to get good fitment the first time. After they sent me the replacement I installed it with a Grimmspeed 2x thick gasket + 1 regular thickness gasket and its sealing up fine. The new design is for sure more rugged than the old so it should be less likely to crack. Overall I like mine a lot now. I'm fine giving up a few hp to keep the rumble lol.
Yeah, I was impressed with the fitment. And the flex pipe section in the uppipe probably makes a big difference. I ended up having to use two gaskets as well. I have the grimmspeed gasket, and faction fab uppipe gaskets in there. I was thinking of getting the flanges resurfaced so they're perfectly flat and maybe then I can just use one gasket. The surfaces must have warped when they welded the pipes. I'm anticipating that these headers will crack at some point. In that case I'll just take them off (which takes maybe 10 minutes) and weld them up. Hopefully I don't have to do it more than once lol.
@@lonniebrown6678 Yeah on mine I saw the flanges for the ports weren't flat either so I ran it for a few minutes on the table sander at my my work to even em out.
You totally should have put some before and after sound videos (you could still make a short video with them) I had to keep my unequal length exhaust sound so I went with Grimmspeed's ported and ceramic coated stock headers with the large crossover pipe, and I love its sound with a catless DP and SPT muffler. (had an HKS but hated the drone and got a couple tickets for it) Are you running cats? What uppipe do you have? I have the Grimmspeed one, it narrows towards the turbo to increase exhaust velocity but I don't know if it hurts the top end power verses a larger one. One I'd love to do like a test/shootout of all different sizes os uppipes and see what it effects. Thanks for all the great videos! (from a fellow 04 STI owner)
I was going to put in the before and after, but I have a whole other video with exhaust sounds. I might do a short direct comparison video though. I have a Turboxs uppipe with 44mm Tial external wastegate. 3" catless downpipe, 3" HKS carbon ti exhaust. This exhaust doesnt seem to drone at all, but the Cobb SS on my WRX drones like crazy. Thanks for comment!
@@adamarellano4742I’m fairly certain that this header can bolt to the stock up pipe, but I’d never do it. The stock up pipe will give a significant step down in diameter, cause restriction and a lot of turbulence.
@@lonniebrown6678 Thanks allot for the answer, im building my 2004 sti right now gonna go for around 400 hp not more than that but you think the 38mm tial would be fine?
@@WrxRocco I have these headers with a magnaflow catback. Start up sounds like a race car and super choppy. Warmed up it's so quite as soon as you stomp the pedal it sounds like a race car. Driving around town barely sounds like it has and exhaust and I'm uncatted
there are nothing better than the boxer rumble sound

Love the wheels on the blob, could I get the name and fitment specs?
Yooo keep up the work on the vids bro never know where it’ll take ya! Btw I drive a 04 aspen white sti to!
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Sounds great but I’d love to hear these headers with a blitz nur spec r exhaust, uel is my choice as well!

Hey, thank a lot!
I'll probably get back into my videos again soon.. my job is slow during the winter, so I'll have time to post!
Thanks again
Like the build man im in Portland we should go for a ride sometime

@ Lonnie Brown: which clutch you have installed?
needed tunne borla header
🤬😡 I live in Michigan, and I get really upset that when I try to do this, bolts and studs will break in the heads! 😥😥
Is there a noticeable difference?
I've been on the fence between borla headers, and port/polish stock manifolds + grimmspeed crosspipe
Same , did you end up picking one ?
Do you have the stock up pipe on in this video?
No. It's a turbo xs uppipe with 44mm wastegate.
@@lonniebrown6678 could it bult up to the stock up pipe tho?

What wastegate and injectors do you run?
It's an old Tial 44mm wastegate. I believe they're discontinued. .
Injectors are widefeed stock modified to 950cc.

I might still do that. I can run these borla headers on my WRX. It's hard to give up this sound though!
