Excellent video; best instructional video I've seen. Began my Master's journey a couple of years ago at 54 and haven't been improving. I will definitely be watching more of your videos regularly from now on and putting your advice into practice. Thank you!
Very well explained and it was really good that you mentioned potential injuries that could occur. I don't think I've seen that type of analysis in any of the videos I have watched on UA-cam. I'll be thinking about all those aspects when I swim tomorrow. Thank you for taking the time to create and post this video!
Great video thank you. O think a lot of us do not have she shoulder flex to d that. Brilliant clip. But a bit of an over rotation on the breath would you agree? Causing the legs to split a bit. Snaking a bit too. But when you have a catch that incredible I think the flaws become negated. The shoulders are rotated more than the has though no? Even when sprinting still a moment of stillness t feel the water out front, certainly not windmilling; bit of a glide. Incredible catch. I think most people have to push arms forwards deeper to get a good catch or can we all develop that flexibility? You have the most incredible Ledecky style catch, my shoulders will not allow me to do that incredible high elbow perpendicular forearm catch. Perhaps one of the reasons I was not an Olympic medallist swimmer and you got a bronze medal and that was a phenomenal swim.
Hi, from Morocco, thanks for sharing your analysis. "The two kick for balance" and the rational for changing your kicks explains how the 2-4-6 kick can be used. It was presented with encouagement. Other video coaches say things like , (IT IS HARD ...this &that IS WRONG or a student's technique is a PROBLEM, etc. etc). I like it when a coach says things like (Try this or that technique and YOU CAN DO IT) .
This video is nice because, besides getting swimming tips and techniques, we also hear the human side of things, we hear your story, your struggle to become a world-class swimmer; so nice! Anyway, I’ve just reached retirement age and have decided to learn to swim right, with good technique, and everything in your video is helpful. I’m a bit worried because I have a should pain, my right deltoid I think, so I’m trying to swim correctly so it won’t get worse, but I’m just swimming three hours a week, nothing like your 80-100 km per week back in the day: wow!
It is important that you swim with your body's biomechanics in mind. If you are getting pain, its your body telling you it is not quite enjoying what you are doing. I am not sure where you are based, but if you wanted some coaching my website is www.wavecrestswimming.com pop onto there for more tips.
Beautiful, superb catch. So difficult to emulate. Perhaps it would be somewhat easier for me to enter little bit deeper since I don't have that flexibility in shoulders.. Greets form Croatia!
Very informative! How much importance do you put on the exit phase or push phase of the stroke (if i have the jargon correct!)? For example do you try and accelerate as much as possible or a steady push back.
Thank you for the question, the majority of the power comes from the 1st half of the underwater phase, as if the catch is preformed correctly the Lats are being used and they are really strong muscles. However the push back is mainly triceps which fatigue quickly and are weaker muscles you will not move as much water. That being said you do not want to crop your stroke short, think about pressing your hand back to past your hips.
I don't know why you put yourself as an example. You have many things to work on: your head position is too high, you have side instability, and your hand entrance need stretch forward, to say the least

thank you so much, I believe its important to be honest with my swimmers, I feel it is important to highlight that my stroke had its flaws.

Hello from China ,swam for half year now
