Hahah, honestly the “look” between the lenses is pretty dang close (I slightly preferred the DZO), so coming down to the physical design was next on the list. Check out Spenser Sakurai’s comparison it’s apples and apples…so to speak.
I think the claim for "vintage" is the minor barrel distortion at the wider focal length and chromatic abberation + slightly soft when stopped down.. but I'm completely with you, they're modern enough for sure! Nice studio setup btw!
Huge fan of the interchangeable mount idea. Torn of the IQ though. In some images I had the imagination you did have different focus points - which made it look like the sigmas has less contrast while the focus was only on the back. (50mm I think?
Hey Joshua! Great video! 🙂. Quick question, do you know what kind of Sigma Cine Lenses you were using in this video? Was it the “FF High Speed Cine Primes” or the “FF Classic Cine Primes”? 😊.
I haven't used that matte box in particular, but if you're using it as a 4x5" filter, then you should be fine. Even the round 95mm filter shouldn't vignette. The DZOs have a front diameter of 77m inner thread, so it seems like you'd have a decent amount of room. MAYBE some vignetting on the 16mm? Again, this is an educated guess! I hope this helps!
@@motionpikczer Yeah, I use the Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom with NO vignetting. I saw that the Mirage comes with a circular 95mm version, and that’s what I think may vignette
brother - just found you - instantly followed when you said 'background in design, don't want to think about mcdonalds every lens swap.' I FEEL THE SAME WAY. Also, born and raised Dallas so we should link up and shoot some content!
Yo! I'm looking into cine lenses as well, I also come from a graphic design background and I had the same thought about the Meike lenses!! I remember telling myself If I do go ahead and get a few lenses from that set, I'll have to wrap or paint the red lol
Such a rock solid set 🤌🏻 I’ve got the 35 for my Komodo too, and will be looking to get the 21 and 90 too. It’s funny as my background in graphic design too and it definitely subconsciously impacting my decision too 😅 Interesting to see it stacked against the sigma too! I actually prefer the slightly less sharp look of them and into the touch of chromatic aberration too surprisingly 😅 gives it character I feel. Love the vids man, keep ‘em comin! 👊🏻
really !, you just skipped a set of lens only because it reminds you of Macdonald, boy ! what a cinematographer ! can't believe i was gonna subscribe to this channel !
duuuuuude pls. the background music is waaayyy tooooo loud, especially when i'm hearing it with headphones. quality amazing keep up the good work. (P.S. -25db works like a charm for me depending on the loudness of the beat)
I’m not gonna fight you on that, haha. I hate the way I sound so much that listening to it over and over kiiillllls me. BUT I will take that into consideration for the next video. I appreciate the feedback and support 👊🏽
Very good information. I really appreciate your mentioning how one could modify the look with various rear filters in PL mount. Many people don't mention these kinds of little details! Thanks!
Hey Joshua. Great video! This is unrelated, but how do you get your film grain to stay in your videos? I find that UA-cam typically denoises all the grain that I add in post.
Looks beautiful I particularly like the against light source renditions compared to meike lineup but it's really a shame that all dzo prime skyrocket 300€ in the last week (22/07/2022) because now instead of choosing between both for look, economies come into equation...
I really wanna hear what you have to say and it sounds fantastic I like the Intel that you’re giving but I can’t stand that looped background music that keeps playing like I feel like I’m in an elevator drop it and I’ll be happy to to subscribe you don’t need it your voice any information you’re giving is perfect without all that crap
thank you! tbh, i hate listening to myself so much i threw music up and didn’t even hit a playback. i’m getting over it and have more videos coming soon with better volumes. i hope you come back!
I already own a pair of DZOFILM Pictor Zooms and I like them quite a lot, so the Vespid Primes are probably going to be my next investment in the lens category. Thanks for comparing them to the Sigmas, although I feel it would have been a fairer comparison at T4 since the Vespids only open up to T2.1 and the Sigmas go to T1.5, but that's nitpicking I guess.
I could see that T/4 would have been more fair to the lenses, but it would be less realistic to the viewer. 4 out 5 times these lenses will be shot wide open, so I wanted to show them at that state…while obviously keeping it even at T/2.1.
Dude, nothing wrong with your choice of DZO but holy crap, your reasoning for throwing out the Mieke was.....nuts. But cool vid.

could you do a video about the oval bokeh mod you did to the rear of lens? looks like its magnetic too!!
You got me thinking hard. Appreciate your work.
Hey Joshua! Great video! 🙂.
Quick question, do you know what kind of Sigma Cine Lenses you were using in this video?
Was it the “FF High Speed Cine Primes” or the “FF Classic Cine Primes”? 😊.
Thank you! I was using the original high speed cine primes.
@@JoshuaFortuna No problem! Ahhh okay, cool! Thanks man 🙂🙂.
I wish we could have seen an example of your anamorphic DIY BOKEHDIRTYLENSIIFILTERVINYETI rear filter
hey! i do right here: ua-cam.com/video/hXU9DJyl4zw/v-deo.htmlsi=0A3GWmyx9PEviK2D
Hi!
Are you using a tilta mirage mattebox? I'm afraid that this lens may vignette on FF.
Do you have any experience on this topic?

Are you using 16mm on FF with mattebox?

already made a video on it! here you go ua-cam.com/video/hXU9DJyl4zw/v-deo.htmlsi=czISLmrwlFL3s-Fx
Hi, Joshua, just want to see how the DZO perform compared to the Meike FF Prime.
The Sigma's look incredible!
Yo! I'm looking into cine lenses as well, I also come from a graphic design background and I had the same thought about the Meike lenses!! I remember telling myself If I do go ahead and get a few lenses from that set, I'll have to wrap or paint the red lol
i’ve thought about painting the yellow engravings white on the DZO set!

Love the film grain! The mix is a bit off though, try turning down the background music next time ;)
Thanks for the appreciation and the notes. I’ll work on that for the next one.
really !, you just skipped a set of lens only because it reminds you of Macdonald, boy ! what a cinematographer !
can't believe i was gonna subscribe to this channel !
Ok, I wanna know how you made that anamorphic thing for the back a d see footage of that
Design aspect of lens are very important to me too! Now I know why I lean towards Vespid than Meike haha Love to see more of your review on them!
I’m glad I’m not the only one! 🤣
I'm surprised by how well the DZO did in this example. Thanks for sharing.
Seriously! 🙏🏽

Nice review, Im looking into buying new lenses and I think I might buy the Dzo Vespid or Dzo Pictor Zooms
I think between those two it comes down to picking between versatility (Pictor) or a stop of light at T/2.1 (Vespid).
Hey Joshua. Great video! This is unrelated, but how do you get your film grain to stay in your videos? I find that UA-cam typically denoises all the grain that I add in post.
Thank you! I don’t recall my settings exactly, but I’m pretty sure it’s a 4K (4096x2048) ProRes 422 export.

Oh yeah, that is pretty unfortunate. Luckily with DZO, you can buy a set with a price break and receive a lens case
great vid bro thanks a ton!
I guess it's question of colors/opinions i do think meike very beautiful and some people told me same, when i used it . (the design)
Do you have an example footage of the DIY anamorphic add on?
lens kit looks beautiful!! recently bought the nisi filters thanks to your other video! Love them so much more over my old vnd!!!
Oh wow! It’s great to hear that you like them so much. I appreciate the support 🤙🏽
Beautiful!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I got the dzofilm tango love it
Man, did I want to watch the entire video, but I just couldn‘t because of the loud psychedelic music... sorry
Would love to see some footage with that diy anamorphic filter!
That’s coming very soon!
Love the video man!! Checked out your website too, work is amazing!
Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed

@@JoshuaFortuna Very true. Fortunately, even wide open the DZOs look mostly pleasing. 😄
lens selection based on color on housing - the pro way.
when the build, price, and glass characteristics become negligible, you have to bring in other factors 🤷🏽♂️
I'm in Dallas let's work 💪🏾
Wow if you don't familiar with Meike, you should've just skip it.
That BGM is too loud 😒
yup
Why this annoying music so loud?
because it’s turned up too much, duh.
sigma cine prime are just a rehouse photo lens i hate the look so boring
the vespid are similar to the arri ultra prime
