  • Yakpacking the Buffalo River 2018: We return to the Buffalo River in Arkansas to finish what we started last year. Last years trip was called due to dangerous weather. We are back to once again try to kayak camp 130 miles from Ponca, Arkansas to Shipps Ferry on the White River. This is our 5 day yakpacking journey. It took its tole on both men and equipment along the way. I hope you enjoy the video, and if you are able, I recommend you try this for yourself. You won't regret it. It is beautiful.

      That is a little difficult to say. It depends on water levels and how many miles you want to cover in a day. I will say. it is my opinion that the upper section starting at Ponca is more scenic and the technical aspects of the water are more fun as well. Hope you have a great time :)

      I believe it was the last week of April. Your best bet is to try to arrive two days after a moderate rainfall in mid to late April. Nights can still be a little cool and rain is common this time of year but the trees have just begun to leaf out in their spring green and the day time temps are warm and there are not a lot of bugs out yet.

    Just wondering. Why do yall use sit in yaks up there instead of sit on tops? We use sit on tops in rougher Rapids. Just wondering. Brother lives up close too there. Thinking about trying to get up there to do some of that river. Fishing any good?

    • @OutdoorWanderer1
      @OutdoorWanderer1  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! I would say kayak choice is all about personal preference. One of the guys we normally go with does use a sit on top and really likes it. As for me, I do some colder weather kayaking too and like the added wind protection. I also just feel more in control sitting lower in the water. Like I said, mostly just personal preference. As for fishing, I haven't done any fishing on the Buffalo, so I can't speak to that. I hope you can make it up there, It is a beautiful place!

    • @OutdoorWanderer1

      It tends to vary greatly based on how fast the water is running and how many hours you want to paddle. We would tend to average anywhere from 15 to 30 miles in a day.
