    1. I have that ventoux shirt as well.
    2. the best/worst thing is the sound the GPS unit makes when you stop moving after a crash. It's like my gear is making fun of me.

Dude, I love your videos. I just got my first gravel bike yesterday, this morning was my first ride. I did the Westridge Fire Road/ West Mandeville Fire Road. Thanks for the inspiration and trail info.

Another great vid, this one takes me back! I live in Oregon now, but grew up in NP. I lived off Lynn and Wendy for a few years in the early 90's so this was my backyard. You even basically did a loop around where I lived in the first bit. I probably rode Sycamore 2-3 times a week from 90-94. Nice to see that though fires and floods in between it looks remarkably the same. LOL at the MTBrs. I was shredding out there on my fully rigid Bridgestone MB-1 before a lot of them were born, so I think a gravel bike is the perfect modern counterpart for the terrain. Can't wait to take a trip down there after CVD and bring my gravel bike and experience it again myself. Keep on making these great guides, nice work!

Thanks. My guess is these trails are a bit more crowded than back in the day...

@@GravelBikeCalifornia Yeah, the number of riders sitting at the Overlook junction was crazy! You could ride there even on the weekend and see less than 10 other PEOPLE on Overlook, and be the only cyclist.

@@jharris-pdxrides Except for the Summer, it's not that crowded. I might come fewer less than 20 people (bikers and hiker) if riding in the morning.

Yet another great video. Well done. I really felt for you eating dirt🤭 You finally got a rattler in the film🤭 Thanks for the Clip of your last encounter🤯. Keep safe. If only our wet summer here in the UK had your weather enjoy. I can’t wait to get back out to California once Covid is done. Hopefully I can join you for a ride if you’d let me🤞

pacific ocean is my favorite ocean in California as well 😂 dude, I just found your channel and am loving it. I like how you throw little informational tid bits about the area. it's like I'm watching huell howser, but with gravel biking. have you ever considered throwing a quick bike check before the ride? listing your chainring/cassette and tire/width choice in the first 5 seconds of the vid would be helpful for some. anyways, keep up the good work, sir!

Typically I ride 40-42s, so I normally leave that info out unless I go off the grid, like Eroica when I went with 32s. Thanks for the nice comments!

Starting in the dirt parking lot on Potrero is the best start. I prefer staying on Ranch Center Road, instead of making the first left onto the Sin Nombre trail single track, and going up the gravel hill to get to the trail further north that heads west towards the Sycamore Canyon trail further west. Feels more secluded. Then take the Sycamore Canyon trail towards the beach. You can cross the beach to check out the ocean. You can also get water at the beach or use the porta potty. On the way back I go up the Overlook trail, and then drop down back to the Sycamore Canyon trail to skip the Guadalasca switchbacks ( too narrow and rocky for my taste). If one is not feeling strong, one can skip the overlook trail and just go straight down the Sycamore Canyon trail to get back. For people starting on the PCH side you can park on PCH a few minutes north of the park near the sand dune for free.

Please tell your friend to stop lowering his face mask. I don't want to die from cross contamination. Thank you for your consideration.
