What America couldve been like :(
LA had a great footprint one hundred years ago. It's going to take a few generations to get it back...
shoot wait was this on sep 27 Because I was on a grave ride and there was a huge group of riders at the bottom of Quercus. but i am definitely joining this group, and also how do i see when the next one is going to be.
It was more put together by Jason from SLO GRVL. I think they have at least one ride a week. You can follow at: instagram.com/slogrvl/
Sweet video man. I was raised and live in atascadero so it's cool to see this video. Love the editing and quality of the video. So many awesome trails and roads to ride here on the Central Coast! But Dangggg Morro Road into Morro Bay is sketchyyyyy. I bet the cars behind you really hated you for that. Don't think I'll ever ride that route
I thought it was going to be more of a problem on Morro Road, but I think we were a big enough group moving fast that it wasn't an issue. Speaking of Atascadero, we're having Bryan Yates on from the Bovine Classic Tuesday night on GBC LIVE: ua-cam.com/users/live4qztgIjKsJ8
👍🏻
bas spotting
Pismo Preserve is a gravel bike paradise.
@@christophernewport8207 I didn't want to go too into depth. I'm sure it'll get a video of its own someday.
awesome!!!
A staple
I was just at Morro Bay last Friday thinking about how I would like to ride here.
Our mind reading technology works!!
Bryonce!! He’s da man!!
It was a great group.
Boring ride. More road bike gravel.
I'm pretty sure at. least two-thirds of our time was spent on dirt.
awesome vid! ..the Central Coast is such a great place to ride. & so fun to see my SLO GRVL homies in action! <3
Definitely a playground out there.
Elkhorn Road from the 58 to the 166. Great ride! 👍
Carrizo Rocks!
You're better off taking that loop counter-clockwise if you want to avoid going up that steep part on Ponderosa. Climbing the opposite side is much more gradual
Bike riders are tough. Enjoy this ride on a dualsport or e-bike. So easy
As long as you're out there, you're doing it right.
Thanks! 🐼
I appreciate it! I assume this isn't my Buff winnings?
@@GravelBikeCalifornia 😆🍻
Thanks, GBC! Barb is such a star! This was a great look at the event from a different angle 🙌🥳
Aw. My main goal was that she had a great ride and everything else was gravy. And I got a lot of gravy too.
can’t believe i missed the live! you mentioned some upcoming rides in the beginning. i’m hoping to sign up for one.
There's still some other gravel events across the state. l'm already putting my calendar together for next year.
@@GravelBikeCalifornia just saw the calendar on the website. what are some bikes you’d recommend to a beginner?
This is awesome! Love seeing the different distance route for the event.
I might go long next year...but the short is so much fun too...
I used to live in Shelter Cove. There are even steeper and longer climbs in that area. Toth road finishes at over 25%. It’s endless out there.
I was curious if that was easier as it looks like a longer route on a map!
If you start on Hwy 101 there is a route from Garberville that you can connect on gravel over to usual and skip most of the pavement. The average gradient in the Kings Range is 10%…to give some perspective…if you ride from Redway to Shelter Cove and back it’s just over 50 total miles and nearly misses 10k of climbing. It’s also possible to ride north from Shelter Cove and northeast starting from Garberville/Redway and head through Blocksberg all the way up to Eureka (65 miles on 101) WITHOUT touching the highway…ends up being about 135 miles and 10k+ either way. Once the bike path between Eureka and Arcata is completed you’ll be able to ride from Patrick’s Point, just north of Trinidad, Ca. all the way to where Usal dumps into Highway 1…without touching 101. Depending on the route chosen that would be around 160 miles and 15k of climbing…almost exactly what this years road worlds race was in total distance and elevation… but the winner of that race finished in 6.5 hrs!🤯…25mph ave!..🤔😳It would take most fit amateur/club riders 10+ hrs to do it.
@@geoffhuber8026 I was thinking about redoing shelter cove next summer, but definitely a different route
I’m watching so Amanda will release you from mammoth prison 🤣
It might take a dozen more viewings...every hour...

Awesome video and summary of the event and such a great time with the gravel community! Glad Mrs GBC could join and enjoy some e-bike strolls in the forest!
Good thing Magneto wasn't around!
Dude that was awesome wish I was there how can we keep up with local events like that one in California.
@@saulm9794 it's a good excuse to make an extended trip
Always great content with a colorful dialog to describe the outings. Was in Mammoth a few weeks ago for the Fondo and rode UP Mountain View Trail to Minaret Vista and lemme tell ya, it was the highlight of my four days there. Started at Tamarack and hit up Lakes Trail to Eagle Express. Meandered over to MV Trail via the smooth twists leaving right out of the Village. Jumped on the Mountain trails down to town and over to Rock Trail back up to the Lakes. It was just over 30 miles but one of the best rides ever. Freaking love Mammoth!!
I think because of the skiing, a lot of people overlook the biking.
Awesome video...
Thanks. Could have made it an hour long!
Mrs. GBC 👏👏👏
GBC Jr was unhappy to be left out...
I thought that was you at the Beer Run. This was my second year doing the tuffer. The kitty litter sand is challenging and exhausting at times. I'm definitely doing the Beer Run next year and would love to join the shakeout ride...
I don't think I would have done the beer run had I been doing any of the other distances. That being said, it does force you a little to see where you're at altitude wise.
As always, another great video, you are the best and I really enjoyed Mrs. GBR, it’s terrific seeing her on a EMTB makes riding a blast, we will definitely be heading to Mammoth Lakes to check it out. Thanks for your great videos.
I was worried about the sand, especially since it was her first time riding dirt, but once you know what to do, she was fine. Even for those that were without, it was only a few pockets.
Are you on the Fleecer Ridge? Which casing, light? standard or endurance?
@@mellissanash7517 yes. I think I would have taken heat for anything but the endurance
@@GravelBikeCaliforniaWould have also increased the chances of flats too.
Excellent summary - fantastic photos - and well done to Barb! Really key to stay aware of those sandy stretches - one of those wiped me out by surprise in Aug 2923!
@@kbh100 it's pretty hard conditions if no one has told you how to handle it

Thanks. Spend more time than I did if you make the trip!
where is thisv
By Bass Lake in the Sierra.
thumbnail uses the new rave term "gravel", here we see a well known paved road. children on UA-cam.
There's a good argument for gravel bikes on these more adventurous road climbs. The extra gear for the grades/altitude and wider tires for the expansion joints (or rougher roads on other rides) do make a difference! Thanks for the content
I rode Onion Valley last week and I descended faster on 55s than on 32s because of those expansion joints.
Man, big respect for riding this. That dirt section south of Honeydew up Wilder Ridge is stupidly steep, the video doesn’t do it justice.
It was hard for me to pull out my camera at this grade.
Great list, I've done at least half of these, not a boring one on the list. For the Sac area, I've found some additional stashes in the hills East of Folsom, CA. North side of Lake Folsom, East of Beales Point in Granite Bay has some amazing stashes going in many directions and unlimited loop possibilities and of course there's the possibility to graduate to the moderate Yankee Jim's route that I learned from your great GBC vid on that route.
Sacramento is definitely underrated for the riding and all the nearby possibilities.
Hi - I remember Horseshoe Meadow rd well ! Terrifying 😂. Question - heading up to Lone Pine area soon - how do you access the Tuttle Creek Rd area of those great 'Bama rocks from the 395? Is there a Tuttle Creek exit or another street. Thanks for any help ?
It's just a third of a mile out of Lone Pine west on Whitney Portal Road (which is currently closed, so you'd have to take Tuttle anyways).
@@GravelBikeCalifornia how come the Portal road is closed ? Anyway, we’re heading north on the 395 as we approach Lone Pine , so from what I see map wise , it looks like we make a left on Ludkin Cyn road, and then hook up with Tuttle from that. Tuttle weaves its way past the Pheasant Hunt club and then through the rocks & back to Lone Pine. Sounds like a plan? And thanks so much for your help ! Appreciate the introduction to this new route via your video ….
This was intriguing and informative. Thanks for making it. Safe travels to you, Sir.
Thanks for the watch!
Great video. What was your top speed coming down from the top?
Strava tells me 43.5 mph. Interesting only 38 on Onion Valley...
I fished the lake before. Steep climbs in spots. Beautiful up there.
We may go back up there again Thursday and add South Lake.
Great video as always!!! Awesome job. Love seeing big climbs in California.
Definitely one of my most memorable rides ever.
Great video again! Every time the song comes on reminds me of that song from nine inch nails 🤷🏽
I want to have Trent Reznor on the payroll....once I have a payroll.
@@GravelBikeCalifornia 😂
I really enjoy your videos from this area! I have a lot of connection to the eastern Sierra. My dad lived in Lone Pine for three years when he was a kid (late 50s/early 60s, he has some stories from his dad about interactions with some of the movie stars). We also go camping at Rock Creek Lake every year! Next time you do that climb, get some pie! I'm not fit enough on a bike yet to tackle the huge climbs (or even Rock Creek Road), but I started bringing my bike up there last year. I did a Hot Creek gravel loop and the June Lakes loop on pavement this year. Next year, I'm hoping I can tackle something more difficult.
@@DanBrim I know around now those places are starting to close for the season. I hope to catch some goodies on the way up this Thursday
@@GravelBikeCalifornia The Rock Creek Lake resort usually stays open until mid-October. I have a friend who did the Mammoth Fondo last weekend and she said it was beautiful up there right now, despite the heat
How much water did you carry? Are there any water stops along the way (I’d assume not), but I do assume there is water at the top. Looks like an awesome ride. I also had the pleasure of driving through Death Valley on Badwater marathon day. It was great cheering for them as I came across the runners and be able to tell the front runners how long ago I’d passed the folks in first place.
@@zimmejoc I think I did four bottles, but it looked like they were installing a water fountain when we were doing it and it looks like it shows up on the Strava heat map
Some great shots!
@@gravelpack8536 this definitely should be on your list
My backyard been riding there since 1976
I know CORBA is working to add more trails in the mountains as well.
Looks Amazing. Hard to believe 290 miles in California could only be 3k elevation! Thats an average 20 mile mountain bike ride here in the Bay Area!
And subtract that one climb before Willits and it's even half that!
