I was stationed at Mugu airstation from 1998-2009. I used to climb Mugu Peak for PT. That first quarter-mile up off the rifle range is a beast! I also packed the Backbone in 2001. Awesome experience. Thanks for the memories!
A little bit farther south from Neptune's Net is Leo Carrillo, they have some nice trails. I usually hike from the campground to Nicholas Pond then make my way up to the Malibu Springs trail. It's a really nice hike
I said it before i'll say it again these bite sized episodes are great! You should really do a series like this especially at 1:18 where Thomas started giving hiking techniques. I never knew about the rest step method of hiking up inclines. I'm going to use that this weekend at the sangre de cristo mountain trails
As a senior lady with health issues I want to use that method just walking around small inclines in my front and back yards and walking up the front path. It could be very helpful.
Thanks Brothers for visiting my neighborhood just verifying how beautiful it is and one person can still enjoy the ocean and mountains. Aloha boys, Uncle Duke
Originally grew up in oxnard ca also ventura city area but born in hawaii. We used ti ride horses on the trails between camarillo and malibu. Good times.
One of my favorite hikes. I have done some of the longer trails but you really need to bring a lot of water and watch for snakes and mountain lions. Never had a problem with either one, just give them space and you will be OK.
Wow, what a perfect little day hike by the water. Looks like you get a little bit of everything there. I'll have to remember this when I roll through Malibu next fall, and damn that Neptune sampler looks phenomenal... Thanks for the video guys! Can't wait to see the rest!
Nice job highlighting Mugu Peak Trail! After watching your video, we knew what to expect prior to hitting the trail. We did this hike for the first time about a month ago and really enjoyed all that it had to offer. Some of the best views in southern California! 👍
Dude you were right in my backyard. I live in Camarillo not that far. That’s one of my favorite hikes in the early morning sunrise. Wish I knew you guys were there, I would of hiked with ya.
Hey homeboy! Aloha! Iwas raised in oxnard born in hawaii, me and family used to ride horses back in the hills behind the old mental hospital. I didnt know the trails went through the Lahoya Valley. But anyway im gonna hike this very trail before summers up. Just a shout out to a Local boy. ALoha and take care. Duke.
Hey, I'm one of the 3 kids you met Saturday, I wanted to say that it was nice meeting you and everything and thanks because now I have a whole new exciting channel to watch! Enjoy the rest of your week :)
Wait this is good training for Mt Whitney, im planning on summiting Whitney and I hit this trail 2 times a week in only 45 minutes good to know I can train a little before that big mountain 🏔
Another great video production. You guys do a fine job. Thanks for all your hard work. I've been a long time subscriber and need to become a Patreon for the production quality. I just don't understand why this channel only has 51K subs. 🤔
Great job I camp at thornhill alot we are waiting for it to open up after the fires . I think you need to do a follow up hike . Ive heard the valley burn again so sad
thanks so much for sharing this. i never knew about the rest step or pacing yourself via conversation. great tips btw. i grew up in the conejo valley and went down to county line/point magu a lot but never did this hike. now i live in the central coast near paso robles and i got back into hiking last year. i do hikes all over san luis obispo county and i have about 50 hiking videos posted on my channel. i'd be stoked if you could check some of them out. thanks so much and keep hiking!
Gorgeous. Have you asked yourselves how it was possible that you saw the Channel Islands? Based on the earth curvature calculator, at 27 miles away even their tops should’ve been hidden way under the “horizon”. And yes, that’s even allowing for the high elevations you were observing from. Odd eh? Pull up the calculator on google and see for yourselves.
I was wondering how many liters is your packs?? What is a good for me? I’m looking to do maybe hikes between 3-6 days tops. With me and my wife. Is it better to have more room just in case? Thanks!!
I believe we are all carrying three liters of water per person, and we refill whenever possible with our water filter. Its always better to err on the side of caution however and bring extra water if you aren't sure how much to bring. Things like the temperature, frequency of refill locations etc can change how much water you need and use.
Not to be "that guy," but that was a destroyer not a battleship. The Navy doesn't have any battleships currently in service. If you meant the generic term, warship, then you would be correct. I served in the Navy out of San Diego, so I couldn't help, but comment. Love your videos and I'm working my way through them all. Please keep up the great work.
Really enjoyed camping near that area. Here's a pretty cool blog that shows the camping more in detail www.rovup.com/experience/-day-camping-at-point-mugu-sycamore-canyon-campground-318
🚨 Nerd alert question!! 🚨 When hiking to the top of any point or view, because of playing BOTW(Breath of the wild), do you ever get the urge to break out a well kept “paraglider” and indulge in your imagination and glide off? I CANT STOP THINKING OF IT, every time I hike with my boys. Thoughts?😉

someone has a good ear for balanced audio track levels.
just another reason to watch this channel. keep up the great work !!
Grew up in California, been in Michigan for 2 years now. I definitely miss the mountain hikes. Great Video Guys😉
Thanks! Michigan does have some beautiful spots, but the mountain hikes offered in the west are pretty unique in their beauty
I'm from that area, grew up there most of my life till 25.
Beautiful and informative video. Great job guys! Good narration by Thomas! Thank you for making this.

Hi Lacie! So nice to meet you and your friends, glad you guys were able to find us. And hope you had a good mother's day weekend :) -Robby
I loved it when I was there!!!! I spent all my off time surfing or riding out in Mojave. I do wish I hiked more out there that's for sure!
What a beautiful hike and view ! Thanks for this best wishes from uk 🇬🇧👍🏻
Thanks to Patreon for buying Neptunes Sampler Platter! Damn that looked good.
Another great video guys. It’s interesting to see nature juxtaposed by the military base. Epic views from that High peak too.
Great video guys, wasn't expecting the shout out, but thanks. Looking forward to the road trip section videos.
This looks like a really fun hike!
Thanks, Thomas and Andrew for a stunning video.
I am really getting into hiking and I am glad to now know about the rest step! awesome tip!
small peak is a peak and summitting is always an arduous effort.
Wait this is good training for Mt Whitney, im planning on summiting Whitney and I hit this trail 2 times a week in only 45 minutes good to know I can train a little before that big mountain 🏔
Really nice video. I like these short ones.
Hike some of the Backbone Trail. That looks wild.

One of my favorite training hikes, next time, you gotta go up the hard way lol, great video as usual
Great Video and Beautiful Shots, !!
That sampler looked awesome! So hungry now :)
Cool vid, just bookmarked this trail on AllTrails, I'll do it next time I'm up for a short hike!
This is great footage. I live at the top of Seer Creek Rd, so this is home.
Loved the jazzy music at the resturaunt
Great job I camp at thornhill alot we are waiting for it to open up after the fires . I think you need to do a follow up hike . Ive heard the valley burn again so sad
Great job as always, guys. Awesome video. That was a brutal uphill to start things off, me oh my. Definitely earned that meal :)

Loved it! Great video and cant wait for more :)
nice video and hike thanks for taking us along and I did a google search of the Neptune's net and that sampler is not a bad price for 2 people
Great place to hike!
thanks guys
There are no battleships anymore! That was a destroyer 😀
Ticonderoga class Missile Cruiser actually ;)
So bright! Do you guys use polarized filters for the footage? If not, I think it would be really beneficial

Any idea how long until the Backbone trail is open for backpacking? Looks beautiful!
Isn’t Neptune’s Net the restaurant where Dom and Brian eat at after they race the Ferrari in Fast and Furious?
Neptunes Nest was in The Fast and the Furious.
You guys should do a hike to the magic bus in Alaska
Dang, some nice elevation gain but well worth it. Crazy it was that crowded on a weekday.
Just wanted to point out that the Navy no longer utilizes battleships. The particular ship shown in the video was a frigate.
Now that's a post hike meal!👍😀 It makes the pasties from us look cheap! 😂 We now know why Thomas moved back to Ohio! 🚒
Yayyyy!!!! Another video!!!

How long it took for the hiking trip?
Hey, I hoped you had a nice stay at Mammoth Cave, I was the person that talked to you about Fortnite and PubG at the Motel.
Hey man, thanks for reaching out! Hope you had a good time as well, it was a good weekend and nice meeting you :) -Robby
I certainly did, and thank you for laughing at stupid jokes I made!
gotta love them Seabees
Are you going to hike the boney mountains with the crew?
Do you have to pay for parking?
Really enjoyed camping near that area. Here's a pretty cool blog that shows the camping more in detail www.rovup.com/experience/-day-camping-at-point-mugu-sycamore-canyon-campground-318

Haha, I definitely do, I'm sure Andrew does too, as we both have put in significant time into BOTW. ~Bry
