    I was told the Priesthood is what makes our Church different, and I said the Catholic Church and others have priests, but now I know it is priesthood keys that is the difference

    Your classes help me so much! I take pictures of many quotes you present to us, so i can read them when I need the uplift. The Humble cycle talk is amazing, that you quoted from Elder Kim B Clark, "Are ye stripped of pride?" Thank you for all your prayerful preparation and insights. I'm so grateful to you!!! Cathy Dale

    Dear servant unto our Lord, Jesus Christ and to the fellow saints throughput the world, what a blessing you are as are all those who give their love and time sharing in the most interesting way.
    A great happening for me is the invitation President Nelson gave in Oct. Conference, repent Celestially, even food can be an addiction. I got myself busy and have lost a lot of weight. President Nelson has had so much influence in every aspect of my spiritual growth.
    You Jon Hilton the 111 are such a special servant as is your aunt Lynn. It must have been a total joy growing up where gospel was always a natural conversation.

    As I was listening to Brother Hilton talk about stillness I thought about Elder Bednar’s talk in April 2024 General Conference. It is titled “Be Still and Know That I Am God”. He highlights the three foundational points of our basic testimony as a result of our being still. They are:
    “We can be still and know that God is our Heavenly Father, we are His children, and Jesus Christ is our Savior.”
    Armed with this tender knowledge we have a greater capacity to learn and grow. Quite often growth comes from accepting correction from on high and through others.
    I must confess that it is far easier to accept course corrections from on high rather than from my fellow humans. I’ve learned to search expressions of irritation (usually from my husband) for those bits of invitation to grow. It is difficult in the moment to NOT return them to him multiplied. Unfortunately, I like to fight. EVERY TIME I sling mud back, we both just end up dirty and cold and unhappy. It’s taken us over 25 years to be more rational in our conflicts but it is well worth the effort!

    Hi John. Enjoyed your presentation. I was surprized when you suggested that Nephi must have lost his judgement seat rather than just giving it up as Alma had(referenced in the scripture notes) due to the people choosing to water down their laws and Nephi wanting to devote himself wholly to his prophetic ministry.

    • @johnhiltoniii
      @johnhiltoniii  12 днів тому +1

      My rationale is based on the close proximity of Mormon telling us that Nephi gave up the judgment seat with the description that the majority of the people chose wickedly: "Nephi delivered up the judgment-seat to a man whose name was Cezoram. For as their laws and their governments were established by the voice of the people, and they who chose evil were more numerous than they who chose good, therefore they were ripening for destruction, for the laws had become corrupted" (Helaman 5:1-2)

    This is actually something I’ve been thinking about doing in the mornings now that my kids are teenagers. I’ve really been feeling like I can be a better wife and mother if I prepare myself with a “Holy Hour” or at least 30 minutes. I almost feel like we won’t survive all the wickedness with out personal revelation. Just my thoughts. 😊

    As you noted, i winder if we caught ourselves soon enough instead of our pride cycle being a circle ours could become an oval by not sinking so low. Also instead of spending equal time going through our cycle we slow way down in the humility portion and then as we see ourself go to the lower part in pride speed up to get the top again.

    • @johnhiltoniii

  • @suzannaylor653

    Perhaps the sin of pride is synonymous with the sin of comparison to others. If so, wouldn't that make humility not comparing ourselves to others in our lack, but the absence of comparison at all? Except to our own growth/non-growth, of course.

      “Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next man... It is the comparison that makes you proud: the pleasure of being above the rest. Once the element of competition is gone, pride is gone.”

    I think Nephi II was thinking of 2 Nephi chapter 5: once the Nephites separated from the Lamanites, they prospered, built a temple, and "lived after the manner of happiness." Sounds like they had a Zion-like period in the early years of the City of Nephi.
