I wasn't home alone, my whole family was at home. One night, we were all getting ready to go to our bedrooms for a good night's sleep, and my Dad was locking our two front doors. As he turned the key for our outer door and he heard the click of the lock, someone tried the handle before realising it was locked. If my Dad was a second later, who knows what would have happened. It still sends shivers down my spine today.

As a teen, my mom went to a meeting out of town for a week. I'd watch TV, get engrossed, and forgot I had turned the cast iron fry pan on. I was heating it up for a pancake dinner.
The smoke detector went off, I rounded the corner into the kitchen, and there was flames a foot or so high shooting out of the flaming pan... I then grabbed the pan and ran it outside. Almost gave myself 3rd degree burns. Thank God, I had oven mittens.
I stupidly hosed it down. DO NOT PUT WATER ON A GREASE FIRE!!!
The burnt mark on the grass didn't go away until a year later.😂

I was technically not home alone. My son who was about 7 months old at the time was sleeping in his room and my husband was working nightshift. A sound at my window woke me up. I got up to make my son a bottle thinking I imagined the sound and he was awake. When I got to the living room there was a man with his arms inside our window stealing everything out of my laptop bag. I started shouting and swearing at him. He calmly finished taking my laptop charger. Picked up everything on the floor next to him. Then he ran out of the gate between our garden and our neighbors garden.
