    Hi guys and girls and of course you Patrick!. There is a far easier way to stop disc squeal and you don't have to even take the pads out!. First a good squirt of dish washer liquid into the calipers and then blast it out with a hose pipe it will foam up like he'll so rinse until clear. Then spray the discs both sides with motorcycl muc off and leave for at least 5 mins and blast off with the hose again. Next thing to do is get some thick paper kitchen towel and clean the discs both sides do this quite firmly you will be shocked how much dirt/oil comes off!. Now either leave the bike in the sun to dry the calipers for a short while or use a hair dryer job done quickly and cheaply!!. Ps use good dishwasher liquid like fairy liquid not the cheap shit give it a go you have nothing to loose and has always worked for me.

    I've never had them squeak quite that bad. That was horrible! Usually just whipping them down with alcohol or acetone takes care of it. Reading the reviews, it seems very popular with the e-bike crowd for obvious reasons. One reviewer had to describe his Pinarello F10 with Red AXS as if that makes any difference at all. LOL!

    I'm a rim brake guy BUT totally understand the reason for this technology: carbon fibre rims + rains + mountains = certain death. You need disc brake for that. BUT Disc brakes are dangerous for light bikes. Rim brakes and aluminium rims are better. Most people use aluminium rims. I am Glovo cyclist. Riding 20.000kms per year. I use aluminium rims.

    How fine is the grit on that stuff? I wonder if you would get similar results with a grinding compound or something.
    Just wondering if this is actually formulated for bikes, or if it is a case of "hey, lets slap the word 'bike' on it and charge more!"

    • @PatrickLino
      @PatrickLino  2 роки тому +3

      Haha the “made for bikes” increases the price! The grit is course enough to cut, but not polish. I think as long as the compound itself is completely oil free it may work

    You only need to clean the pads and spray the rotor with alcohol. You have to clean the pads properly - if there is a shine/glaze on the pads, then use sanding material to remove this. It may take a few sprays of the pads to remove any absorbed oil/gunge, and some pads can be so soiled that they need replacing. Moral of the story is that disc brake pads can be high maintenance and may need cleaning after every ride. You don't need to use the advertised stuff on the pads

    I started racing road in 1973 when I was 12 years old, and track about a year later. Nothing special, only club level. However, I was in A grade for a number of years. There is nothing wrong with rim brakes at all. They will still send you head first over the bars if you jump on them too hard. The secret is to wind your rosary beads around your stem and bars. This not only improves the braking quality of rim brakes and assists in aerodynamics, but will also prevent the aforementioned scenario of going head first over your bars whilst engaging your front brakes.
    In all honesty, I was more offended to see you riding a carbon bike. That is nothing short of heresy.
    On a side note; I almost wet myself laughing when you said "Man, I look dark in this video." I shan't be the one who states the obvious.
    More power to your legs and happy cycling.
