Bob Mintzer Big Band I HEAR A RHAPSODY

Recorded by my father on his VHS camera back in late 1983 at Seventh Avenue South, Bob's arrangement of "I Hear a Rhapsody" features Michael Brecker, Lew Soloff and Don Grolnick, plus an incredible big band with David Sanborn, Pete Yellin, Lawrence Feldman, Roger Rosenberg, Randy Brecker, Marvin Stamm, Laurie Frink, Dave Bargeron, Keith O'Quinn, Bob Smith, Dave Taylor, Frankie Malabe and Will Lee (I'm playing drums) ...

Oh yeah, the double hidden drummer! Hidden behind the band colleagues and behind the drum set. Even more with high angled cymbals back then. Well, most drummers later put their cymbals very low when changed to much more traditional playing. Not me, cause I still like the feel much more with higher angled cymbals. Makes you play differently. Also never seen Will with his original brown hair colour. Fantastic and rare video gem. Thanks Sir Peter.

The original “Horn Man Big Band” line up - that’s how you say bad-ass MFs with a NY accent! Years later, when they recorded IHAR on DMP, the sax solo was Roger Rosenberg on bari.
