@@jmathesonjr Leo P got some skills, he just plays in a demonstrative way to please himself; maybe that people give him too many credit, but I won't say he is horrible at all thats surely a matter of taste
Thanks for sharing - but the titles are wrong: Bobby Timmons' Moanin' is a different song. This Moanin' is by Charles Mingus. That's why the Mingus Big Band plays it.
Great rendition of the classic Mingus Moanin. And yes, this is a different tune from the also great Bobby Timmons piece. Mingus pieces evolve over time. Bigger, faster, more layers, more energy. They're "organic."
glad that even those pros have bad days. ronnie wasnt really feeling it and even ended the solo just as the backgrounds joined for the finale of the solo....
For mi the bari in this recording sounds like he absolutely does not want to play that song. Or is it some kind of "I don't give a fuck" coolness of playing that I don't get? Sorry. No swing, no groove in that playing. Just fast spitting out of the song... What really shocks me. He is the same bari player as in that amazingly sweet live recording. Such an amazing intro, groove and solo. I guess everybody has bad days.
Holy mother of god. Hes playing so damn fast
this is not fast have u ever heard of leo p
@@EzyPezyLemonChezy This version is faster than the one he played though...? The BPM is definitely higher
@@EzyPezyLemonChezy leo p plays this at around 236 bpm while here its about 272 bpm

Why do they not ever show a decent shot of the bass trombone? My gutter-bro! He's WAAAY down under the bari. Give some props, man!
What do you call 1:43-1:51?
@@gmofftarki less than ten seconds

DaniARTS -And More! The band still plays in New York every monday
Kyle Kelly waaa

@Sierox Mingus big band yes, they play at the Jazz Standard in New York City
@@desertmoon610 No they just shortened the bands name to 'Mingus'
hahahahaha the band mimicking the record band with the "ooh"'s haha
Dude that IS the record band. Do you not recognize Ronnie Cuber?
Damn that sax is so nasty.
I love this song
That bass bone though
Always awesome, especially live at Jazz Standard. Talk about a wall of sound!
I've been looking for this video for six years, thanks for posting
That amazing latin version at the end blew me away!!!

That trombone guy , Gayton, big ups
He's played with Bruce Springsteen
In love w ronnie cuber rn
no slide whistle at the end? very disappointed.
xDDDDDD
Tony Soprano coming in strong with that piano!
At the end, it just bought out the Mexican in me and I was like “WOAH I WAS LISTENING TO JAZZ NOW I BASICALLY LISTING TO CUMBIA

9:04 to 9:20 ❤❤❤❤❤
0:47 work song?
YES.
the bari sax's name is Ronnie Cuber, and he kills it with the most infamous bari solo i can think of
and then Leo P came along with his moanin solo.

Incredible! CUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is uptempo
I'd like to hear a full latin version of Moanin, that ending surprised me
Why does it say Bobby Timmons? They realize that Timmons' Moanin' and Mingus' Moanin' are two TOTALLY different compositions, right?

Clark Gayton was moannnin’! 💪🏼🎶
I see Ronnie Cuber was just in a certain mood that night.
Excellent

Why would the Mingus big band be playing something by Bobby Timmons? Come on, that ain't rocket science.
There are two different songs called "Moanin'." One is by Bobby TImmons. The other is by Mingus on his album "Blues and Roots."
ValiantKnight7983 lmao wtf this is a Mingus song
Kyle Kelly That's the point I'm making dumbass
👏🏾👏🏾
I thought I left the speed up from UA-cam option... Why every one js naking moanin' so damn fast?
1:48 min: everytime you get out and just imitate playing😂
😃🍀💙❤️
What is the personnel, please?
92/100
This is one of my favorite jazz songs but It’s played to fast and there’s a lack of people
who is this pianist?
Seems like Tony Soprano
Kenny Drew Jr
But isnt this still based off bobby timmons' moanin? You can hear the origianl notes and keys here and there
Wonjae Gye same key, different song.

Looks like he's out of breath to me. Can't blame the guy, most people couldn't play like that in their prime.
He's playing it too fast, and it sounded better before he moved the microphone.
he is the actual baritone player from the original record
dont be so negative
Hes played this song so many times by that point. Maybe he was just trying to keep it interesting for himself

no

TOO FAST TEMPO...Mingus played it more slowly...a btter groove + swing ! Digging this but...Slow the f down..Play as written on the tempo
it is the mingus band with the best baritone player ever.. maybe you shouldnt tell them what to do?
Thats so wrong on so many levels
