For the past couple of years I had been experiencing hesitation (to the point of knock) and sluggishness, but had resigned myself to these just being part of having an older car. Did this simple routine and the difference is shocking!! No hesitation whatsoever, even when it's bone cold. Acceleration markedly improved. I feel like I just got a new car. Thank you, thank you, thank you
This has totally blown me away . I cleaned my flow sensor and my car runs better than ever before . Idles perfectly , and squeals out like a 1969 GTO . Thanks so much .
Thanks DannyDIY! Never knew about this sensor till watching your video. My Civic has 140k miles and never cleaned this sensor before. Hopefully after following your guide my car will run like new 😃
One tip; Take the top of the air cleaner off the care before trying to remove the MAF sensor, then with it on a work bench. you can more easily remove the screws instead of all the bending your back and trying to angle a screwdriver in there. Also, one of the two screws was on very tight and i almost stripped it. I sprayed a very small amount of PB blaster on the screw and gave it a couple taps with a rubber mallet on top the screwdriver and then a few minutes, for the oil to drain down to the threads. the screw then came out easy! Mine is a 09 civic and had never had this service done.
I recently bought an 08, 1.5k starting idle but smooths out as soon as moving, still need to take the time to clean the body but by applying the logic of the ac brings the idle down: keeping my ac on a low setting when starting my civic and it starts perfectly smooth now
I recommend you use a nitril or similar glove to prevent that carcinogenic cleaner getting absorbed into your skin. Also doing this away from the paintwork of your car. Otherwise a good video. Thank you.
How much did it improve the MPG's and power going uphill? I've never heard of it but it seems like it's worth doing with minimal risk. Thanks for sharing
I'd like to add that although it's the same thing technically, they make MAF sensor cleaner for a reason. You can use the electronic cleaner for the throttle body also, but technically MAF cleaner should be the only thing cleaning that sensor. But to each his own as they say.
Am having 2010 honda civic 1.8 l 4 cyl automatic not giving proper mileage. Fuel Tank Capacity 50Liter It will give 560 kilometers if I fill up fully for the long travel. When am drive inside the city for full tank its giving me 290 to 300KM These are the steps that I have done. 1. Clean the mass airflow sensor. 2. Clean the throttle body. 3. Clean the plugs. 4. Changed the engine oil and gear oil. 5. Clean the fuel filter. 6. Clean the fuel Injector. Please assist me with this.
Mine wasn’t dirty, I do this every year, so my mpg on the Element didn’t change, however on my Civic, i noticed a 2 mpg improvement cleaning the throttle body, airflow sensor, changing the oil and air filter and aired tires to 35 psi, my Element tires im running 42 psi, the ride is a little stiffer than when I ran 35, but the mileage is better. My all time best was 31 mpg on a trip, i track my mileage every fill up, I usually averaged 24 to 25 city hwy mix, I believe I have 130k miles on my car, hope this helps
@@dannysdiygarage yes hopefully because it triggered problems after I cleaned the throttle body and changed air intake tube because it was broken after that it felt like the rpm was a bit high and also triggered some lights once so I figured it is something to do with the MAF sensor I might be wrong because I did not clean it not did the previous owner might have considering the condition of throttle body carbon deposit.

Good day. My 2008 honda civic misfires at idle only, drives perfectly fine otherwise. Changed spark plugs and MAF sensor. There are no vacuum leaks. No check engine light. What do you think is the problem?
Went to do mine and one of the screws had been stripped out by some previous owner. Guess I'll take the air filter top off and spray in there best I can. 😢

Hi Bill, I’ve been traveling through the East coast the last couple of weeks and haven’t had much time to check comments, sputtering on take off, possible miss fire on take off? Remember Bill, without me being there experiencing the problem and doing diagnostic testing, these are only guesses, try holding the brake pedal down so the car won’t move and putting the car in drive and hold the rpm around 2000 rpm to load the engine, does it miss or sputter, if so possible plug or coil issue, you can also try this, unplug the airflow sensor and drive it, is it better on takeoff with the sensor unplugged? I assume you have no engine light on? If you’re engine light is on 1st pull codes, you should also check to see if there are any codes which didn’t turn on the light Sorry for the late reply, I’ll be traveling for another week or two
I have the engine checklight on the schedule light on and the power is Jerry light on the vehicle starts up idle is good it is when I'm driving around 25 miles an hour when I give it gas it's spotters other than that it runs good You have a phone number I can contact you

I'm on the same boat with my 2010 honda civic 1.8 prosmatec. Let me know please if anything worked for you. @Danny your help needed.
Make sure your tires are spinning freely, i.e. no dragging brakes or bearing issues
Honda Civics are known for bad wheel bearings. You might want to have that checked.
Hi Danny, thanks for the video. Just a quick one - do you have to disconnect battery before cleaning the MAF? thanks!
No need
Hi Danny, what was your before and after MPG on your civic and element after doing this?

Hi Danny, after I clean the MAF with Contact Cleaner, check engine logo lights on.
Clear it with a scanner, you may have had the key on when the connector was unplugged, check your connections, also check what code.
Love your videos Danny ….question what oil brand do you recommend on a a 08 civic 1.8l
This is what I’ve used in my Honda vehicles ever since they were brand new, it’s served me well : valvoline full synthetic Advanced saw 5/20
@@dannysdiygarage appreciated, keep up the good work 💯
I hate how the new Hondas have tiny little Phillips head screws. I miss the normal size ones.
The same problem I have only corrected when the car is restarted
Hey Danny. Is it necessary to let it dry before reinstalling?
It should dry before starting
Thanks for the quick response, Danny. I appreciate all the great content you have put out. It’s very helpful for me and many others.
I got a honda civic fd 2010 , idles low when reversing and stopping suddenly.
I have a civic 2013 and when I remove the clip of MAF sensor the car does not shuts down does that mean its bad or needs cleaning ?
When you say clip do you mean connecter? If yes? No it only means it’s disconnected and the computer sets fixed value, hope that makes sense

@dannysdiygarage it drives up the hill pretty good, has a lot of power especially when it hits vtec, its just that it idles poorly
How often would you recommend cleaning this?
Recommend ever 60k,
Does this work on a hybrid 09?
How much time to leave it to dry after spraying.?
10 minutes depending on weather

Hello, I have the same issue on my 2013 civic coupe 1.8l, I have replaced the intake boot, cleaned the maf sensor, replaced air filter, still no luck..

Check spark plugs.

If it’s hesitate and not a chug, like miss-fire, this could be the issue

Would wd40 work to clean it?
Wd40 will destroy it
