Great video Danny, a polite suggestion is checking the cabin air filter. I had my Acura's dirty enough to freeze the core and naturally stopped cooling. Swapped it and worked fine.

This saved me an arm and a leg. Had a bad fuse. Which obviously threw off the ac recharge reading. Replaced the fuse, recharged the ac and it works! It isn’t ice cold but it’s getting colder!

Im having the exact same issue (coolish air blown at idle, alot cooler while moving) my blend door actuator moves when I change the vents from face, to feet, to defrost.. all of that. But it doesn't move at all when I change the temperature from cold to hot, and back and forth. But it does change the temperature.

Understood, I plan on going deeper into diagnostic on each code, videos like this take weeks to produce, there’s the research, scripting, then trying to explain in a way that the novice can understand and feel comfortable performing these tests, not to mention with tools that are available for the DIY home mechanic, shooting the video and editing my goal is to have next summer a complete AC diagnostic video, other than this AC video, many of my in-depth wiring diagnostic videos that I spent weeks on haven’t done very well, which tells me my viewers are wanting a quick fix, if not they’re taking it to the shop, the codes are in the description if you haven’t seen them, thanks for your feedback it’s very helpful

Now I have to figure out what that means AC RELAY: New relay did not engage 👎 🚫compressor (clutch) FAN TEST: ✅ VISUAL INSPECT: ✅ ACTUATOR BLENDER TEST: Don’t know where it is. So unless I can figure out what the 4 blinking lights on header test are I am guessing needs new compressor which probably means whole new system 😢😢😢😢
Great video I had trouble with my 8th generation civic AC cooling properly. It was the actuator motor that controls the air temperature. Once it was replaced with a Honda oem part the problem was solved

Great video, tha tip of pressing the buttons 1:03 down and turning the ignition helped alleviate some stress, no warning lights. Then I swapped the relays 6:39 as you suggested and it was a dead relay, so I bought a new one and AC is up and running. Thanks Danny.

I had watched other videos suggesting the A/C clutch relay might be the problem (it was), but I didn't have any way of testing the theory out without ordering the part first. I'm just not knowledgeable enough about cars to randomly try swapping things out and around without worrying I'm going to cause some sort of catastrophic failure, so I rely on people like you to give me the confidence to try this stuff out without worrying that I'm doing something wrong. It was your suggestion to swap the rad fan relay with the A/C relay that helped me pin it down as the definite cause for my A/C issue. So thanks again, I appreciate the work you do!
Good sir one thing you didn't mention is sometimes it could be the in cab aii filter behind the glove box, if it's covered in dirt and leaves this will restrict the air flow as well. Awesome video in detail 👌!
So a guy was trying to help me and connected the freon can but nothing would go in It seems to me that Honda has the worst air conditioning system ever built. Myself and both of my sons have Honda vehicles with dead air conditioners. It never happened in my Toyota's before
I bought a used Honda 3 months ago that had ac issues. They had to replace the compressor. I also never had any ac issues with Toyota. After this car I'm going back to Toyota.
Hey there my friends I want to tell you that my neighbor was mechanic and he did the so-called Freon recharging and brought it all back to life. So that has changed my opinion so much
@@jamesbondaygeehad my 2010 civic for 10 years now. Did end up having to replace a Freon line once and had to recharge freon about 3 times. But other than that, it's been pretty reliable. Cools just as fast as most modern, newer cats.

Danny help me out. My AC works and the clutch engages and disengages like its supposed to for 10 minutes then it just quits and dont engage again. Does this sound like low freon? I tried recharging it with freon a while back and i tried the fuse swap nothing. Everything else looks fine like u mentioned but i don't know what to do. Danny - I didn't get any codes from the control panel at 2:09 in the video. At 2:26 in this video, the 2nd mode/button from the left on the control panel is NOT working properly. This is the button where there is an arrow pointing to the face and an arrow pointing down to the floor. The light comes on OK, but the air is ONLY coming on at the bottom toward the floor, NOT at the top toward the face. I did notice that if I select the 1st button, with the arrow to the face, and the 3rd button with arrow pointing to the floor separately they both work. What could be the issue?
Danny, is there any danger in adding Freon if Freon is not the issue? I suspect that is the issue with mine, but I do not have a thermo to test the before and after. Is there any danger in adding some Freon and then checking if the AC blows cold after? Thanks!
Yes, if you overfill the system it will cause more problems for you. If you're able to,Buy a gauge to test it. Better to be safe than sorry. Ac's are such a blessing and for me A complete necessity. I no longer have a thyroid soo it's no beuno not having AC right now. No one can pin point wtf is wrong with mine so I'm trying to do it myself lol. Ohh ohh get a gauge that shows you BOTH the high and low side! I hope you get it figured out❤
I had problem with 2007 civic where clutch only engaged sometimes the hotter it got outside the less likely it was to work so we took ac clutch plate off through wheel well it is a common problem and took out one spacer shim washer and cleaned rust from back of clutch plate with wire wheel the few thousands of the shim had it working perfectly after we put it back together and it has worked for years since then
My 2013 civic just started instantly blowing warm on my way home, went cold for 30 seconds again and back to warm. Owned it for 10 years 110,000 miles and this is the first issue I’ve really had with the car lol. It’s also extremely hot outside right now and one of my suspicions is the system kicks off when it’s too hot.
@@dannysdiygarage not yet, maybe tomorrow actually. What ended up happening was the red 12 volt wire rotted off the electromagnet side of the clutch. It was barely connected, thus an intermittent weak connection and sometimes it would work sometimes not. I ordered a whole new clutch assy with pulley, clutch, electromagnet for $40. The replacement process is straightforward. Compressor doesn’t need to come off, Freon doesn’t need evac or recharge.
Well you're over 10,000 subs. So mechanic filled with new freon and the A/C got cold, but a few days later it was blowing warm air. Mechanic did not detect leak. Clutch kicks on. Your thoughts?
Gotta look at the gauge, the gauge will help diagnose, does the compressor cycle a lot or stay on? I have a few videos on ac and videos on ac fans also, check them out
Hey Danny. I also have a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid. I have a digital thermostat temp gauge. When holding down the recirculate and rear defogger for a few seconds my display spelled out AC. My control head does is not change the direction of the air and it’s also hot air and not blowing cold. Any ideas?
So I have a little bit of an odd issue. When I bought the car the ac would not blow as cold at an idle but would blow very cold while driving. Now it consistently blows much warmer regardless driving or not. The clutch on the compressor engages. Both fans kick on. And the dummy gauge reads that it has refrigerant in the system. I’m thinking either blend door actuator or possible the expansion valve. I already pulled the cabin filter and cleaned it out.
Hi danny, I have a 2008 civic lx. The AC will work when at night time, AC will work for the first 5-10 mins of driving at the hot day then it will start not blowing cold air. What can be the problems there and I have recharge the AC.

If i’m not mistaken, the compressor clutch SHOULD be spinning once A/C is activated, correct? Ours is not activated with A/C on and is blowing very warm air. Correct me if I’m wrong but when filling the low pressure side are you not supposed to keep the can upright and 45 degrees max to keep liquid from going into the low side? Can’t compress liquid, right?
I replaced my clutch and magnet I had the ac running properly for 3 days then started blowing hot air. Freeon was topped up and relay was changed. I. Wondering if it's the expansion valve?
My 2011 CRV ended up having clutch engagement issues due to wear and tear increasing the spacing between it and the compressor. Removed it and removed a spacing shim to reduce the gap back within spec and now it engages and blows cold!
There are 3 or 4 shims in there of different thickness. The air gap recommended is 0.35mm to 0.65mm (about .014" to .024"). Removed 1 or 2 that give a recommended air gap between the clutch plate and pulley.
not sure if you experience this situation I am currently having on my civic aircon.After driving a while longer with AC on turned at the lowest temperature, the ac starts blowing hot air, it literally just heats up instead of just not blowing cold air. with AC on putting it to low temperature cant defog, now I can only use high temperature to defog. It does has compressor clutch engaging all but blow wrong temperature. what component do you think it could go wrong? The ac blows normal cold air varies from different temperature I set, most of the time while the car has been driven like the first 15-20mins after a certain time, that symptom starts.

May i ask y a question with a ac issue. I have a honda 2008 mk8 1.8. I filled the ac up with coulant. I replacement the relay I can hear the ac pomp working. I checked the same wire. I have 1 connection instead of 3, it works. The H intake feels cold but the L intake feels warm. Still the air isnt cool inside the car. What could be the problemen?

check your fans too. both should spin when the acs on. if one dont spin, you dont get enough airflow on hotter days. i just drove home today in 112°f heat and it was enough to make the compressor shut itself off, all cause the stupid condenser fan relay didnt work :(
I think this video needs to add changing out the fuse and relay. That fixed my problem because I saw that the clutch was not engaging when I turned on the A/C. There's no problem with the fan or the system holding pressure.

Question: 07 Civic EX. A/C wasn't charged when I bought it. I was told it just needed freon. Bought a charge kit from Walmart. Put it on the low pressure side to change it. It was empty. Turned everything on high/max, pulled the trigger, clutch activated but the gauge shot to the red/full/danger zone within 3 secs. I know it's not full. What do you think?
My radiator fan works but condenser fan won’t turn on, and my compressor turns on when I hit it with a screw driver, does that mean I should adjust the shim?

My issue is the worst one…compressor clutch will not engage even with giving it the love tap that Danny did. A/c relay sway with radiator swap also did not engage the clutch…
3:43 Can anyone please answer this because he doesn't address this in the video. He moved the temperature from cold to heat to middle and the actuator moves. I purchased a new actuator and the new actuator does not move when i move the temp from hot to cold it does not move at all unlike in your video

Hooking up a set of gauges is necessary to see what’s going on, in California auto parts stores loan them our, pressure reading will help identify what’s going on here

I once hit the ac compressor with a hammer gave it a nice good hit and worked a charmed

Danny when I use the a/c the vent closest to the passenger window blows cold but every other blows hot air. I changed the vent actuator

Danny - I didn't get any codes from the control panel at 2:09 in the video. At 2:26 in this video, the 2nd mode/button from the left on the control panel is NOT working properly. This is the button where there is an arrow pointing to the face and an arrow pointing down to the floor. The light comes on OK, but the air is ONLY coming on at the bottom toward the floor, NOT at the top toward the face. I did notice that if I select the 1st button, with the arrow to the face, and the 3rd button with arrow pointing to the floor separately they both work. What could be the issue?

Danny, is there any danger in adding Freon if Freon is not the issue? I suspect that is the issue with mine, but I do not have a thermo to test the before and after. Is there any danger in adding some Freon and then checking if the AC blows cold after? Thanks!
Yes, if you overfill the system it will cause more problems for you. If you're able to,Buy a gauge to test it. Better to be safe than sorry. Ac's are such a blessing and for me A complete necessity. I no longer have a thyroid soo it's no beuno not having AC right now. No one can pin point wtf is wrong with mine so I'm trying to do it myself lol. Ohh ohh get a gauge that shows you BOTH the high and low side! I hope you get it figured out❤
I had problem with 2007 civic where clutch only engaged sometimes the hotter it got outside the less likely it was to work so we took ac clutch plate off through wheel well it is a common problem and took out one spacer shim washer and cleaned rust from back of clutch plate with wire wheel the few thousands of the shim had it working perfectly after we put it back together and it has worked for years since then

My 2013 civic just started instantly blowing warm on my way home, went cold for 30 seconds again and back to warm. Owned it for 10 years 110,000 miles and this is the first issue I’ve really had with the car lol. It’s also extremely hot outside right now and one of my suspicions is the system kicks off when it’s too hot.

@@dannysdiygarage not yet, maybe tomorrow actually. What ended up happening was the red 12 volt wire rotted off the electromagnet side of the clutch. It was barely connected, thus an intermittent weak connection and sometimes it would work sometimes not. I ordered a whole new clutch assy with pulley, clutch, electromagnet for $40. The replacement process is straightforward. Compressor doesn’t need to come off, Freon doesn’t need evac or recharge.

Well you're over 10,000 subs. So mechanic filled with new freon and the A/C got cold, but a few days later it was blowing warm air. Mechanic did not detect leak. Clutch kicks on. Your thoughts?
Gotta look at the gauge, the gauge will help diagnose, does the compressor cycle a lot or stay on? I have a few videos on ac and videos on ac fans also, check them out

Hey Danny. I also have a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid. I have a digital thermostat temp gauge. When holding down the recirculate and rear defogger for a few seconds my display spelled out AC. My control head does is not change the direction of the air and it’s also hot air and not blowing cold. Any ideas?

So I have a little bit of an odd issue. When I bought the car the ac would not blow as cold at an idle but would blow very cold while driving. Now it consistently blows much warmer regardless driving or not. The clutch on the compressor engages. Both fans kick on. And the dummy gauge reads that it has refrigerant in the system. I’m thinking either blend door actuator or possible the expansion valve. I already pulled the cabin filter and cleaned it out.

Hi danny, I have a 2008 civic lx. The AC will work when at night time, AC will work for the first 5-10 mins of driving at the hot day then it will start not blowing cold air. What can be the problems there and I have recharge the AC.

If i’m not mistaken, the compressor clutch SHOULD be spinning once A/C is activated, correct? Ours is not activated with A/C on and is blowing very warm air. It will only work for around 10 minutes at the start of everyday - consistently. Curious to hear yours or anyone’s thoughts.

Correct me if I’m wrong but when filling the low pressure side are you not supposed to keep the can upright and 45 degrees max to keep liquid from going into the low side? Can’t compress liquid, right?
The can has special instructions on this, follow the instructions on the can, but you are correct unless the can says different

I replaced my clutch and magnet I had the ac running properly for 3 days then started blowing hot air. Freeon was topped up and relay was changed. I. Wondering if it's the expansion valve?

My 2011 CRV ended up having clutch engagement issues due to wear and tear increasing the spacing between it and the compressor. Removed it and removed a spacing shim to reduce the gap back within spec and now it engages and blows cold!

There are 3 or 4 shims in there of different thickness.
The air gap recommended is 0.35mm to 0.65mm (about .014" to .024").
Removed 1 or 2 that give a recommended air gap between the clutch plate and pulley.
How did you know it was the expansion valve? Is that the only thing to check after everything that came before?
Expansion valve meters the Freon and it was the most logical solution and it worked

not sure if you experience this situation I am currently having on my civic aircon.After driving a while longer with AC on turned at the lowest temperature, the ac starts blowing hot air, it literally just heats up instead of just not blowing cold air.
with AC on putting it to low temperature cant defog, now I can only use high temperature to defog.
It does has compressor clutch engaging all but blow wrong temperature. what component do you think it could go wrong? The ac blows normal cold air varies from different temperature I set, most of the time while the car has been driven like the first 15-20mins after a certain time, that symptom starts.

Look for the AC fuse maybe blown. This means your AC is not working? Or damaged control unit.

check your fans too. both should spin when the acs on. if one dont spin, you dont get enough airflow on hotter days. i just drove home today in 112°f heat and it was enough to make the compressor shut itself off, all cause the stupid condenser fan relay didnt work :(

I think this video needs to add changing out the fuse and relay. That fixed my problem because I saw that the clutch was not engaging when I turned on the A/C. There's no problem with the fan or the system holding pressure.

Question: 07 Civic EX. A/C wasn't charged when I bought it. I was told it just needed freon. Bought a charge kit from Walmart. Put it on the low pressure side to change it. It was empty. Turned everything on high/max, pulled the trigger, clutch activated but the gauge shot to the red/full/danger zone within 3 secs. I know it's not full. What do you think?

I would bet it’s the blower motor or the blower motor resistor. Try the cheaper one first of course.

My issue is the worst one…compressor clutch will not engage even with giving it the love tap that Danny did. A/c relay sway with radiator swap also did not engage the clutch…

When adding Freon you should purge air from hose or else your adding air to closed system. Which can result in ac not working properly.

Hooking up a set of gauges is necessary to see what’s going on, in California auto parts stores loan them our, pressure reading will help identify what’s going on here
