Just for some clarification: It's pretty easy to recover if you screw up during the install process. There is a "Recovery" section on the HackBGRT GitHub page that walks you through it. You have to boot off of a Windows recovery or install disc/USB drive and run a command to restore the original EFI file. github.com/Metabolix/HackBGRT
I love how this comment has less likes than the other ones.
Still liked the video!
Important step to prepare before if you don't have a second PC to see and execute this walkthrough.
Umm i have a lenovo laptop which has lenovo written on it. So if I restore the splash screen will it revert to the windows logo or the lenovo text
omg Michael ty for hearting my comment
My mb is A68hm-k I think will it work?
I don’t think its uefi mode but has bios like uefi, so I might have the thingy I forgot it’s name

My motherboard provider actually has an official utility that allows me to set my boot screen to whatever I want without having to use any hacky workarounds, it's pretty cool

Gigabyte, yeah, I did that ages ago too.
It was called FaceWizard, it comes with the BIOS flasher utility @BIOS.

@Dragutin Maric you don't have to reinstall... there is a mbr2gpt utility in windows which converts your drive without deleting anything... i did this a couple days ago
Just a pro-tip for everyone:
- The image can be bigger than 300x300, at least in my case with a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8.
- The text file that pops up during install can be modified for the position of the logo. The default is a little too high up the top. I used the following to make my logo more center:
*image=x=auto,y=350,path=\EFI\HackBGRT\splash.bmp*
Can you explain the code and where to write it?
I love how the notepad instructions contain a VIM header. Also nice Windows user name :p

Well done.
Finally. A good use for my old slow HDD. To be able to actually have time to see a custom logo upon boot. Take that SSD!
Often times, your motherboard maker has a tool to do this, too. Gigabte has one called Face Wizard. No need to disable secure boot if you're using one of those tools. This is a good option for cases where you don't, though. Nice to kow it's gotten way easier.
Is it like this for B450M motherboards (A gigabyte brand motherboard)
Can i enable the secure boot after i use hackBGRT?
I don't think MSI motherboards have this. Well, mine doesn't.
This video reminded me of my win xp days.
Wish there was a way to make that little progress bar from the XP startup screen
I did this to my friends laptop and I changed the Windows Logo to DIO Brando's Face. And when he turned on his laptop I screamed
"You thought it was Windows 10 BUT IT WAS ME! DIO!"
Did he think Dio infected his startup? 🤣 Not being mean
@@zank8470 Been 10 months but he was just surprised and was confused. Then I did the voiceline in front of him and we had a good laugh. I changed it back after a couple minutes of doing it. Never did it again though
Finally! I've been waiting on a UEFI bootlogo replacer for years now, thank you!
there has been a variety of ways "for years" to change the logo....lol
@@ChadLuciano Yes, but most of the older ones cause stabilty issues with Windows 11.
Time to rick roll my friends by changing their boot logo
gotta give that a thumbs up for sure

Video: How to change Windows boot logo

Don't have an NVME, but I do have an SSD and all I see is the loading circle at the bottom without the windows logo present at the top.
I Had A NVMe, But My Windows isn’t Display The Logo (Just Loading Logo, Not A Motherboard Logo)
This brings me back to times when i changed the boot screen on Windows XP.

@@Jan7727 Only possible when you delete system32.
Works great, thanks! One caveat from me: in order to get it working on my HTPC mini system (ACEPC T11 Plus) I had to delete the HackBGRT splash.bmp as I couldn't just paste over it with my preferred personalised 300x300px Kodi logo splash.bmp. Once I did that, no more problem, I could copy/paste it straight over.
Now, if only the PC manufacturer had given an image flasher for doing this, I wouldn't have to sit and look at the "American Megatrends" logo while the system spins up all the hard drives looking for a boot disk even though the eMMC is all it needs, that'd be even better...
Never Gonna Give You Up Michael.
you said "Don't do this your own risk!" so i do it on Oracle VM Virtual box and thanks!
Finally I can put A E S T H E T I C S on boot lol
Lmao aesthetic logos just looks insanely cringy. Also don’t you see your motherboard logo? Unless If your using a shit laptop lmao

Yay people are still uploading good computer content in 2020! I'm definitely subscribing :)
Thank you!
The reason you see your PC/motherboard manufacturer here is because the boot logo comes from an ACPI table called BGRT. ACPI is configured by the firmware. This hack replaces the table with the image you specify and then chain-loads Windows, basically. If your boot loader is something like Clover which already allows overwriting ACPI tables, you could theoretically plug it in there without this tool.
My window logo is not coming is searched everywhere but no one is telling you are a legend. Only legend can do this.
I wish this was a normal feature in the bios or in windows.
Thanks for warning. My pc is unbootable now but I backed up my Study folder which was around 300gb saved a lot of important stuff. Thanks again
I miss the new bootscreens with every new version of windows..
So I assume this is how ASUS, ASROck etc do their fancy UEFI boot screens.
Yeah I think so :)
Well it says hackbgrt, so I'm assuming that the function they're using is BGRT.
I think they just chuck it directly onto their motherboards. I mean I had a Win7 machine that had a major os failure, so I swapped its HDD for an SSD and put a clean install of win10 on it. The splash screen replacing the Windows Logo looked exactly like the logo I got during POST, so its more than likely on the board
@@minecraftWithDanielD Yes. You can turn this "animation" or picture on and of in the bios even when no storage is connected-> pic is saved in the bios(?)
Android User As I assumed. That said, when Windows uses its generic screen, does that mean it’s loading it into the BIOS when installed, or are board manufactures actually preloading the Windows screen?
I didn't even know windows has a boot animation like this
thanks for that NVME SSD
First world problem
Most people see the Windows logo when booting from UEFI? I assumed that was just for BIOS mode. I see my motherboard logo.
Yeah boy me too but it was hella ugly from Msi so i turned it off in the boot options of my bios so now i see the windows boot again
Oh yeah mine says "Cyberpowerpc powered by Asrock" with the cyberpowerpc logo, even on my old system it would say hp and not the windows logo
Edit: it just says cyberpowerpc on boot up, it says "cyberpowerpc powered by asrock" in the bios
I don’t but mine was self-built so I can’t say anything.
@@engineerbot yes but it should say your mother board logo upon boot up
I thought the loading logo was a thing on the Windows installation.
You can make the image full screen. Works fine on my PC.
My screen resolution is 1920x1080 so I modified the image size to that resolution too.
Reminds me of the Android 2.3 days when I boot looped my Droid X trying to install the elevator scene from Gungnam Style Music Video on my phone XD
Also a lot of 3rd party motherboard have BIOS image reprogramers with them now and I would assume doing it that way would allow you to keep secure boot if it is needed. Normally I disable the Boot Logo on the motherboard for non OEM boards for 2 reasons. 1) I like seeing the BIOS screen and 2) Seeing that Gigabyte logo boot up is just. Yuck. lol But Gigabyte is one that gives you BIOS logo tool. At least on the ones I have used for first/second gen Ryzens
I changed it to the new windows 10x logo! Thanks man!
Used on vmware
Also, if you set the boot screen a missing image, HackBGRT will automatically use the original Windows logo. No need to be afraid.
that is the problem how can i solve that
@@EzMod-hp1vr Make sure that you save the image in your EFI folder as a .bmp. NOT a .png, .jpg or any image format. If you can't find the EFI folder; do this
When BGRT opens MSPaint, click File>Save As, then a new drive will appear. Click on that and you should be able to navigate to your EFI folder. Then to the HackBGRT folder. From there you can copy and paste your .bmp (image) into that folder. Make sure it's named splash.bmp. It will ask you to skip or replace, hit replace. Then close the window, CRTL+S in paint (or save button) and close paint. From there it should be changed to whatever you set the image to.
If I misunderstood your question, I apologize, hopefully this helps you

Thanks man it worked !! I actually did not have the windows boot logo but from acer themselves and your tutorial still worked
did you see his pc was named Rick Astley lol
I used a hex editor to edit my 5606 Asus BIOS for custom logo...this way is okay but I think the hex editor is still a better choice and makes it easier to tattoo your hardware. Thanks for making the video.
_I have two questions,_
1: What if your system replaces the windows logo with a custom logo itself? Will changing it yourself still work?
2: Can you turn Sercure Boot back on after using HackBGRT?
I dont know the first one but the second is : No, you can't as HackBGRT has to load during boot. It installs a custom boot loader which doesn't work with secure boot
@@bbbbbb-tl1st VERY late to this, but yeah, enabling Secure Boot will render your OS unbootable until you disable Secure Boot in BIOS again
you are the only one who I feel like they know what they are doing when they go into the windows files.

I tried doing this it worked a week later it stopped working and did normal windows boot
Wish I could make Windows 10 look like Windows 98, like I could in Windows 7...
Use classic shell or open shell to change the start menu and button also the task bar texture
There actually is a way, but it needs much work and many 3rd party programs. However, the theme is still in the OS, it's just hidden under the metro interface.

I like how Michael has "MICROSHAFT WINBLOWS 98" inserted into the VM's DVD drive.
Since my Virtualbox Virtual Machine only puts the Windows Icon I did this to say Dell since my computer is Dell. Maybe I'll try a different method.

How about on BMAX Laptops? No matter what I do the boot logo doesn't change. It's always the default BMAX logo. The Startup Sound doesn't even play when I boot my PC.

My booting says "MSI ARSENAL GAMING, PRESS DELETE FOR BIOS AND F11 FOR BOOT MENU" and then it puts the loading on the bottom
I used to stare at that logo for minutes before I upgraded my pc, now it basically doesn't appear.

I wonder if opening File Explorer as admin would also reveal the B: drive for a slightly simpler copy and paste? Easiest way to try would be to highlight it in start menu and hit Ctrl + Shft + Enter, but that might not actually be easier in the end as you still have to deal with Paint to continue the script.
Well I did this on main ThinkPad laptop (I disabled secure boot) and I changed to inverted Lenovo.
It doesn't work on my Gigabyte motherboard and still has gigabyte boot logo, but if I disabled gigabyte boot logo from the bios, it is still windows 10 logo, tried all possible options and ways that I can think of... I think flashing the bios' logo will do the trick
