Would you guys use this OS?
Yh but not for daily use Because it will be buggy 😂
i have given this a go unfortunately no option for Ethernet and pc does not have a wi-fi adapter shame as it runs smooth i've tried prime-os remix os etc and none seem to boot for me this one does great video
@@ProLiveGamers Can you run apps like Snapchat on it and login 🤷♂️
@@rajadawood8137 i'm unsure as far as i'm aware you can i couldn't connect to ethernet wifi should work for you though

Yes, please keep these videos flowing. Great work Brian.
Thanks Brian. I am just starting to learn about IT and I have been using yyour tutorials for a long time, they are the best! I am going to try this one on an old laptop. Cheers!
Over 2000 videos Colin, happy watching :)
@@Britec09 Wait what? I watched over 2K Videos! know wonder why I feel Like that guy from "oldergeeks" holding the magnifier glass to see the monitor.Lol
Great work! Just continue with these types of videos. You make some of the most informative videos with easy to understand explanations. 👍
Thanks Brian and if you choose to do more of these types of tutes, count me in! Happy Easter and stay safe and well 🙂
Happy Easter
Doggone Brian, you just saved me over $300 in ordering upgraded parts for some old laptops I have laying around. I'm definitely gonna give this a shot. If it works, I'm gonna donate the laptops to some low-income families so it can help with their children. Thanks M8! You're the best!
You could also use the Rufus program to make a Linux Xubuntu or Linux Mint xfce flash drive. Xubuntu runs really well & extremely fast on old computers. For example at idle it may only use between 9% or 10 percent of memory on a machine with 4gb of ram. Although Windows 10 runs nicely on my old pc, at idle it is still using 30-40% of physical memory. If you're giving away the laptops load on some simple but fun games like extremetuxracer, and Libre Office comes as standard.
Mike M
I had to give up on linux. every update I would lose wifi drivers on 4 PC's. after 2 months of that I gave up on it
Make a Linux Mint installation disk and save yourself and the kids a lot of heartache. Then the faster machines can be upgraded to more elaborate versions of Ubuntu if desired and the slower machines will still be absolutely capable for network computing, internet, etc. You may need to use a piece of software called Rufus to create the installation disc. Definitely don't create an android box for them unless you're green and live on Mt. Crumpet. Your heart is in the right place and that's the best part, kindness is the most important thing in the world.
Love How do you do it... example humane!!!
you can install linux lite, Xubuntu, Lubuntu or LXLE as well on old laptops, it works well
Very interesting. I've got an old laptop tucked away unused for years. This would give me something to do with it. Thanks.
Had a bit of a Faff around to start with because there was a protected partition on my hard drive but got round it by making it unavailable in the cmos settings. Works great so far :)
Thanks for posting this. Have been thinking of putting Android on a laptop as a possibly faster way of playing games like Words With Friends, rather than dealing with the seemingly much longer ads and slow flash performance of the web version. I read some years ago about the way to install Android in a virtual machine, but I don’t remember where now, so this was a great reminder and informational.
I would love to see a follow-up movie, about the compatibility with google-accounts, google-play and performance of games.
google play does work, keep in mind though that by default you are rooted so you can't use netflix, further more some apps may not work at all
Would be a good idea to tell your viewers WHY you would want an Android OS over Windows in the first place, and secondly maybe do a side by side comparison to see how well ... or Not the Android OS works. Just a suggestion -
Windows is garbage, they are the police snooping around in your life. If you can only use only Windows and not benefit from other OS's, then you the problem, not the person who is making the video. I like Windows for gaming only. Windows isn't secure, not at all. I prefer Linux over Windows or Mac.
this looks awesome" thank you Brian for all your incredible video's! ...Happy Easter to you and your family, please be safe always my friend
Thanks, Brian, I enjoy these videos and find them very useful. Haven't done this yet, but will.

Haha its funny, I was just digging out an old mini PC I have to do just this & then I got a notification from youtube lol
Nice, give it a go
@@Britec09 if this does not work will my pc be dead forever?
@ No if it don't work. You will need an other pc to download windows iso and create a bootable usb. You can check youtube videos. Also your data will be erased.
Thx, man, it really worked! And for those of you who did not reach the android screen, and you were just sitting at loading x86, try running 32-bit version as I too tried running 64-bit first but it gave me the same error. Then I tried 32-bit iso and it worked. So be sure to try 32-bit if 64-bit doesn't work for you. Even if you have a 64-bit capable pc just do it.
I love the animation and I think you should have done this a long time ago. Thanks for the great content, Keep up the good work.
This is awesome! Fun project! Thank you! How much ram would you recommend for Android for say video streaming or light gaming? Is it compatible with touch screen? Thanks again!
4GB is plenty
@@Britec09 I'm trying to install this on an old Acer Iconia W510 with 2 GB RAM. When I select the 'Install' option, all I get to see is an empty black screen.
don't even try and use android 9 with 2gb of ram its incredibly slow, I have a lenovo android tablet, tab m8, running android 10 with that much ram
This is an excellent way of getting new life out of an old PC, tell me, can the desktop display size be set to different screen sizes? or do wide screens get black bars on both sides?
Why? You can still use windows on plder hardware.
and there is batocera linux if u had a potato 2gb ram laptop or pc
Keep'em coming. In this age of streaming, this is very helpful! Thanks again for all you do.
Thank you. I find these tutorials very helpful. Please do more.
@6:55 how did you get there from the previous installation screen after reboot? I've been following along in Oracle VM and have no idea how you got there.
Ya exactly, I have the same query
Hey guys, just been running with this myself. When you use virtual box to test it, do not use the USB, but select the optical drive and load the ISO directly before you start the VDI . The USB is only for a laptop or desktop, though you could also burn the ISO image to a DVD as an option - hope that helps. That said, the whole thing crashed on me :-)
Hello can i ask a question??? Do i have to install a driver for the wifi and audio for my laptop? I did not perform it yet sir. I just want to be sure of i try it. Thank you 👍👍👍
That depends on your machine (your WiFi and sound card card to be specific). The os uses the Linux kernel, which supports most hardware out of the box, but you may be unlucky and have to install some drivers via LAN or via a USB
@@IGqy thank you so much sir God bless 👍👍👍
I was looking to do that and this video was the right solution for me. Thank you for the excellent video. You just got a new subscriber.
I have tried this before and I didn't get any joy but after watching your video and following your steps, im walking on cloud 9 😁👌, thanks mate
I'm going to try this out when I get some free time. I've always wondered why Android was never properly developed for the PC to compete with Windows.
chromebook left the group
@@henrybaniqued6739 well... chromebook isn't really an android device but it works like one
Android apps don't run natively. There's a compatibility layer in between
Why would you even waste your time installing this as Windows can do much more for you! If you got a really old laptop or desktop bringing it back to life would be buying a low profile video card and adding an SSD to the desktop will give it life!
@@peterwho9380
Exactly. Very exactly.
@@peterwho9380 And if you want to use an old pc, linux is the obvious choice of OS

Fantastic. It worked great for me. Very clear instructions. Life saver something to keep me interested during the Lock Down. Thank you very much
Hi Brian, your vids are are a real teat to learn from as you describe and explain all the steps so clearly, and I say again you are a great credit to the industry of computing - Thank you so much for taking the time of teaching.. I think I've tried this OS in the past but with the uncertainty of windows have settled for Linux mint cinnamon , - will windows ever get itself working properly?!
I keep seeing images from Bosnia, more specifically Mostar. Did you go on holiday or are living there?
its a lovely place
@@Britec09 I travelled through there while stationed in Bosnia back in 1998! Seems like another lifetime!
@@Britec09 it is, I have stayed there and passed through there many a time. However, be wary if you dig under the surface.

I'll give this a try on a virtual machine and if it works I might try it on my old HP EEEPC x86 computer that I don't use anymore. Thanks for the video mate
Your videos are very interesting. Always a pleasure to watch, thanks
I think it would be helpful if you were to explain some of your decisions - why you didn`t want GPT and why you needed to edit the OS startup for example. Otherwise keep up the good work!
same sentiments
The title says old pc, so it probably has a cmos bios not ueifi, so it won't boot gpt partitions, and the boot edit is to use generic drivers for video, assuming that's an old pc it has crap graphic card.
me and the boys installing android on a super computer
I love this, I love my droid phone and have been fed up with Windows for years. Thanks Brian.
Looking forward to doing this. Might do it tomorrow. I will start with an old Laptop and go from there. Thank you.
Best thing of all is it's not Windows 10 and people allergic to Linux can use Linux without even knowing they are using it, just like on an Android phone because Android uses the Linux kernel under the hood.
@airscrew1 If you have no problems with Windows then you are very lucky.
...here's a question I'm sure some others may be interested in knowing the answer to... can I use this method on an old Windows mobile? I have two; one doing nothing, the other used as a media player. There are many old Windows phones out there, very capable, cheap as chips, and needing a saviour...
This looks interesting ! Thanks for posting 🙂
I never knew you could do this. I will stick with OpenBSD and Linux, but will certainly try this in a VM for fun. Thanks for the post.
Interesting that you can do this, but I'd like a short explanation as to WHY I would want to.
Exactly what I was thinking. I have an old 17" Compaq laptop that I bought specifically to take on holiday in my folding camper with the view to slaving it off my mobile phone as a wifi hotspot. If it gets stolen or broken, it doesn't matter as I paid so little for it. In its current configuration it struggles to play back You Tube videos even at the lowest definition within feet of my home wifi broadband network connection.
DIWhy
Because then you could have space-efficient apps that otherwise were only on your phone with a 5" screen to be on a 17" screen with keyboard - Accuweather for instance has annoying ads filling the desktop version.
If I could make my Samsung Notebook act like an Android I might be able to download the movies I bought on amazon prime.
To make smart a dumb TV, for example. You connect the PC through HDMI and you can watch UA-cam, Netflix, etc.
Hmmmmmm... interesting. and I have a fully working PC sitting in the corner... but why would I do this? Am I missing something?
If it's an old PC that is struggling to be useful (slow and creaky), then why wouldn't you? You wouldn't do it to a PC that its
Very cool. Thanks for the detailed instructions. I want to try this. Once it's installed, will Android update automatically on a PC? Is there a recommended way to backup the partition? Can it create restore points like Windows? Is the flash drive needed to boot, or could it be used for this purpose later? That's all my questions. Thanks!
I appreciate these videos on Alt USB Os's, more please!!!
Very much like installing Linux from two decades ago.
cfdisk hits different on this one.
Can we dual boot the Android OS with a Windows OS on a laptop?
if you can use windows os why bother use android OS lmao
Awesome. Thanks for that info. Think I'm gonna load that on all my old pc's that are obsolete..
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your video as I've been wanting to do this on several old laptops, MacBooks, and PCs collecting dust. I also have a unique MacBook Pro (Late 2008 with some Early 2009 features) and a compact Windows 10 NetBook/tablet that are the most frequently used. Curious to know, is possible to install an Android OS on Macs with properly formatted and partitioned drives as well? If not it is not, are there any minimum requirements you recommend PC/laptops to have for problem free operation Android Pie once installed?
Now install Windows 10 on an Android device
Yeah give it 15 years
And VOILA! You have a Windows Phone. :)
Use the highest end phone possible. Use the Limbo app , it lets you run x86 on android. If you manage to install windows 10, it will be the slowest POS ever, but it will work. Best i got working was windows 2000 on my phone.
What is the advantage of having Andriod PC over Windows?
most apps no longer work on older PC's. windows 10 runs very slow on older PC's. older windows OS is no longer supported and so are the browsers.
none
you can play clash f clans
Instead of Windows watching you, you can have Google watching you, but also recording everything you do. How good is that?
The advantage is in taking old hardware and making it useful again. My laptop is too old to take Windows 10. I don't feel like investing hundreds of dollars in new hardware (particularly now). The older the operating system gets, the less it's supported by software manufacturers. In the case of browser software, as security technology advances, it won't be supported by the browsers I'm stuck with in my older version of Windows. Eventually, things like online banking will become impossible with that software.
By installing a brand new, shiny Android OS, I can use a more modern browser. My hardware isn't quite so obsolete now, and just got an extension on its lifespan. I'll take it!
Excellent tutorial. Interesting way to revive an old PC.
Thank you very much. This is an excellent way of getting new life out of an Old PCs.
Not only extending an old PC, but getting rid of blotted Window 10.
It better to have a support OS than have one that will give you a virus etc., win7 and under lost their support
w10 can be debloated already and slimmed down a considerable amount.
i just bought the cheapest 2in1 laptop from jbhifi without thinking, and god it was slow. hitting 100%cpu and ram just idling in w10.
did a bit of fishing around. found some debloating tutorials and got everything down to about 15-20% idle. its now pleasant to use for just about any light task.
What an excellent tutorial. Thanks so much.
Wow, this is awesome! Thanks for this great tip! Stay healthy, Dutch regards, Nico

Why suffer all this just to put a lame smartphone OS on PC with limited hardware/software support, when you can get any flavour of Linux instead?
Why not do both? I enjoy the experiment.
Got a suggestion for a Linux flavor for an older laptop?
Cuz a laptop is way powerful than a phone and one can play graphics intensive games on these instead of using an Android emulator or buying a flagship phone. You'll be surprised to know how many people do that.
@@TKevinBlanc You definitely need to mention how old. Like 10-15 years old or 5 years old? You can get things like Elementary or Mint working fine on a 5-10 year old laptop but older than that and we are into 32bit processor territory for which we can't use modern Linux.
@@TKevinBlanc you cannot go past linux mint. it sort of has everything out of the box

Yes thanks, something to do during the pandemic!
I don't have a weak enough computer that this would make sense on, but I'll definitely try this in VirtualBox!
This would probably breath new life to those old netbook thingies, that mostly just came with Windows XP, or some crappy basic Linux. Also on old laptops that still had like 256/512 MB RAM. Although those would probably still be painfully slow, just like old smartphones with that much RAM...
Andriod is definatly something you want on a pc however its important to recognize andriod being more compatible with AMD as andriod nativly runs on power pc using the ARM RISC architecture which AMD is also power pc but without ARM RISC arcutecture therefore andriod on traditional pc uses a puppy linux clone of google framework which only pre 2009 intel potatoes are optimized for unless you have the 2020 version of ARM hybrid poptato which runs both win RT and native andriod however I don't advise because RT on native andriod hardware is more bang for the buck.
Very helpful, thank you sir, I've to share this
Thanks for helping me revive my old netbook with this Android video =)

wow what an amazing job you've done there
Thanks. Useful. Using it under VirtualBox. Might need fine tuning. Restoring all my apps from my android phone.
Windows updates messed up my old computer. I think im gonna give this a go.
Excellent tutorial. Interested in details about virtual version on old PC. I assume one downloads the .iso disk file (32 bit on older PCs without a modern BIOS for VirtualBox), opens VirtualBox and performs the install from the file (in Downloads). The interactions (per the tutorial) should be the same except the VirtualBox version can run in a window on the current OS. In my case that is Linux Kubuntu (KDE) 18.04.
I have an old computer which I will use to experiment with and set it up to run android, thanks for your help and guidance... Subscribed!
