Is Billie Eilish's Favorite Salad Overrated?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- So I saw all of these people posting videos of them trying vegan queen, Billie Eilish's favorite salad. As a bonafide salad hater, I'm always on the lookout for THE ONE that will fix me. This salad was expensive and a LOT of work, but let me know if you think you'd still take the plunge and give it a try. Also lemme know if there are any other salads out there that can help me change my ways.

What’s up party people, what celeb fave food should I try next?? (Also, any salad puns are welcome)
Miley Cyrus.
Rihanna’s mac and cheese
Jane Fonda!
@@oDePalmer Than why watch if you are just going to be unkind? The rest of us watch because we enjoy Merle's content and personality...
John Wayne's ribeye steak and eggs??......🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Going from "I'm trying to be a pro-salad, pro-morning person!" in the first minute to "I don't like salad enough for this to be worth it for me..." by the end is SO relatable 💯🚫🥗
I feel seen
this woman hates salads but couldn't stop talking about how much she loved that billie eilish concert!
LMAO
In my opinion, this would be a great idea if you meal prep. You could make all of the ingredients ahead of time and make a portion when you want to eat this salad.
True. But I, for example, can only eat fresh salads. I love salads, I really do, but they have to be freshly made. :X
I like to meal prep just the cooked ingredients for my salads. Such as a grain, roasted veggies, roasted chickpeas. And then make a dressing. Then you can easily just chop the fresh ingredients and add the already cooked things in
If you remove the avocado (or just only cut it up and use as needed), and keep the cherry tomatoes whole.
And keep the ingredients separate.
It should keep well for quite a long time
This is probably the move going forward
This is like "i'm trying to get outside more so I thought I would go kayaking alone in winter." You can seriously just pick three things you like, put it on greens, and dress it. I admire your gumption tho this looks delicious.
I really dove off the deep end
I would LOVE a vegan cheese series!
Wild... I thought I used a LOT of ingredients in my recipes hahahaha it did look really good.. also for parm try lactic acid from druids grove... its mind blowing when you add it to cashews and a little nooch. I use it all the time now
oh my gosh yeah my pantry is STOCKED for a while now haha- I def will try the lactic acid in vegan parm!
I didn't know you were a fan!
ngl, I was completely overwhelmed by how much it cost to make that salad!
YOU AND ME BOTH 😅
If you wanna make plantains chips just get the green ones. That's we (Puertorrican) make them. Cut them like you did fry them, don't burn them leave them little raw then get them out , with a plate flat them, fry it again until they're crispy and salt and pepper or Adobo. But hey this is fine is just going to be sweet.
Thank you so much!!! I'm pretty into them now, def going to have them more often so this is helpful
Is that called tostones? I had that once and it was SO good!!
Tostones, many latinos makes these. South Americans call them different though, patacones. Same sht though. But my mother still refers them to tostones. I would use green plantains, but make them thin chifle’s, so there is a crunch. But who I’m kidding, fried plantains in salad seems counter productive to me. Why!!!???
I've been a Billie stan for like 5 years now which is long long time in teenage years and istfg she's saved my life more than once and i admire her so much.
These are easy ingredients to keep on hand and most people might already so I think this would be really easy to throw together (on a smaller scale) whenever
Definitely could mix and match whatever ones you want to have in there!
I have been diagnosed with a congenital heart disease and I've been told by my cardiologist to be more plant based with my diet and I like the look of this
Try Challenge 22!
I agree with challenge 22!

Please don’t use those fried plantains! Also too many nuts and seeds, probably should cut that down too, the avocado too. Best
long time billie fan here, im curious, would you be down to show us the go to salads that you love to make coming from a salad hater?
I'm thinking I need too do a full-on salad series now!
Oooh, have you ever tried making a Middle Eastern fattoush salad? Loads of delicious fried pitta chunks. So good.
Fattoush and tabbouleh with pita and baba ghanoush🔥🔥
@@formeh yesss. Now you're talking.
0o00o0o0o0o0o I like where your head is at ... maybe this will make me a salad lover - maybe I just need to make this a series
@@MerleONeal Middle Eastern cuisine is the only time i’ll ever pay for a salad dish when i’m out. It’ll change your life! The salad series sounds like a great idea also.
@@formeh I'm biased because I'm half Egyptian. But yeah, Middle Eastern salad is next level!! Like the little pickled aubergines, zaatar dressings, all the toppings!
Whoa that's a LOT of ingredients for a salad! Oh I feel stressed thinking about the post-salad cleanup 😅 Awesome work 👍
I absolutely love your video's! Tons of love from South Africa! May you be blessed with abundance🌌
Aw thank you so so much!!
I usually miss details, but as soon as you finished assembling, i was like "Merle, the chickpeas!!" 😅💕
Very fun to watch, as always!!
Good luck with those dishes, Titi!! 😅 Also, loving the sweatshirt, Merle!
Titi had a LOOOONG DAY ahead of her heheehe - and thanks! I thrifted that bad boi
This was entertaining af Merle, ty lol
glad you enjoyed :)
Use tongs to mix your salad.
Also the TJ vegan parm shreds are surprisingly good.
thank you for the mixing tip! I have much to learnnnn
Yesss they are the closest I've found to replicate the taste of parm!!
Can't lie it looks quite delish. I would certainly try it at least once
DAKOTA!
This salad looks delicious. Just wanted to give you a tip for slicing up all those cherry tomatoes. Put them between two plastic quart container lids with the tops of the lids sandwiching the tomatoes, put your hand on top and slice between the lids and BAM they’re all sliced. Also works with grapes.
Love Life Cafe is so good!!! Their truffle mushroom sushi is so good, along with their dalfu! I was just there over the weekend! People that worked there also recommended and called Minty Z the best vegan restaurant in Miami, so I tried it and it was superb!
lol thanks for making this recipe. i already have most of these ingredients at home, i want to try this :P
no problem! I hope you enjoy !
Thanks for making this so I don’t have to! It does seem very healthy and nutritious, but too many steps for me in one meal.
Thanks for all the hard work! How many servings was that supposed to be???
If you are making savory plantain chips then you will want a green plantain. If you are making sweet plantains then you want the yellow-brown ones.
This salad doesn’t bother me because I usually have all these ingredients on hand! I’m definitely gonna make this❤️
You Crack me Up. I totally relate to the preperation complaints but as you said...storing all those prepped ingredients separately in the fridge is the way to go. I look at it as prepping veg's for the week. All of those items could easily be incorporated into other meals the other days of the week, making the $50 a great investment. That dressing is to die for. Anything with lemon or lime and maple syrup gets a high five from me everytime. Thanks for the laughs and great meal prep.
Glad you enjoyed it!!!
At any function they ALWAYS assign me the salad. I’ve heard a couple of folks asked “where did you have the salad made?” All I changed was how I chop the veggies and added lots of green lettuces. I also bring lots of fun toppings!! ❤ this one looks amazing 😉
the voice distortion on the chickpea part had me rolling
Thanks for sharing this super delicious recipe
love your vids
Thank you so much
Interesting! I live in Brazil and most of these ingredients are quite cheap here, imma give it a try!
Omz Merle my vegan queen you are spoiling us with all the content!! But I am NOT mad about it!! I am definitely a salad lover tho I'm lazy and even as a vegetarian of 15+years I'm so picky with me vegetables haha. Mine usually just consist of lettuce and tomatoes, tho I do lovee a Greek salad! I don't like ANY seeds, quinoa, kale or grilled/ fried vegetables (I know I'm weird) but I do love me a healty, fresh salad.. in a boring way ha.
Anyhow... Keep bringing us the awesome content, and if you're ever looking for other angles and are over food videos or just wanna spice it up, any and all videos about plants/gardening..I am Soo here for it!! Much love to you and Aria!! 💖💖💖
Yeah, plantains have to be black almost, they're the sweetest that way and smooth/soft. The more green the more bland and crumbly in texture which I dislike so much.
Love the video but looks far too expensive to be worthwhile :) enjoyed your humour again Merle 😂
Glad you enjoyed it
I think that maybe there should be more dressing and blend it so the basil is distributed. Because that salad needs some cohesiveness, right?
EDIT: Okay, never mind... If your doing plantain chips, that is perfect ripeness.
3:24 It takes quite a while for yellow plantains to ripen to a brown, so no one ever finds super ripe in the store cuz the stores never let them get that far. So that plantain you have is still gonna be starchy with a hint of sweetness.... I would've just subbed with a yellow banana for full sweetness.
Merle PLEASE tell me where you got that sweater/zip-up I NEED it
It was THRIFTED!!! Ty for the love
@@MerleONeal You really won at the thrift store that day!
I love salads and I wouldn't do all that
apart from the fact, that 50 bucks is more than my weekly grocery budget, I specifically like salads because they're a quick healthy alternative to pretty much all my other quick meals
I ain't spending 1+h in the kitchen for a salad
Thank you for your service.
I GOT U IMAGINARY
can you imagine that i have a fave salad? Tomato, cucumber, onion, dill, feta, salt, pepper (sometimes instead of feta, sour cream) mostly on the side though not as a meal
This looks great, but I don‘t like to make multiple portions, I always make one😂🌱✨
yeah i overshot this one
2:51 lol
I have to cook with ten ingredients or less. My adhd kicks in and I will just wing it and not use most of the ingredients. lol
That looks delicious! I actually don't think it requires that much work, just meal prep the quinoa, the zucchini and squash can also be fried off before and the rest is pretty much just chopping. I would make smaller portions, then you do have leftover ingredients but you can use it for other things. There are also a few ways to make it cheaper like using dried chickpeas (which I'd meal prep) and just leaving out the hennep seeds, maybe substituting the pumpkin seeds with sunflower seeds. Maybe also replace some avo with (left-over humus).
If you want to get more into salad I recommend roasted veggies (like cauliflower), with a grain, a legume and some fresh veggies. Roasting veggies requires less actively cooking time and if you are in a hurry just use (wholegrain) couscous which is done in 5 min. There are even methods to cook grains in the oven so then it's only cooking the legumes and chopping veggies. Just add a nice dressing and done!
Love Life Cafe is one of my favorite vegan restaurants ever. Their pizzas are delightful. There's a meaty pizza made with lentil/walnut meat and it is to live for! I've never had this salad but I'm definitely ordering it on my next trip there.
Some day I'm going to have to visit
It did look amazing. Not sure about the chickpeas simply because their texture when they're whole and not mashed freaks me out 😄A cheese series would be good, comparing all the recipes out there. I made Madeliene Olivia's ones at Christmas and loved them 😊
Plantain chips are usually made with green plantain and they’re thin. These are just fried plantain 😅 still bomb, though!
Great to know!!!
You should do a Billie Eilish series. She has a story of recipes on her insta!
Merle, can I send you a Brazilian hand carved wodden bowl? It would look great for the salads you make. PO BOX PLEASEEEEEE!
You're so kind for thinking of me! I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to get one right now
Yes, a mailing address would be great!
I would have tweaked the chucked peas season them up and roast them in the oven for some more crunch . Overall the salad looks good
That salad costs more than my ENTIRE weekly shop! U.S. Groceries are extortionate
Was the chick pea voice real? Made my day
this salad looks sooo yummie!!
I now know what to make if I ever get invited to a fancy pants potluck! It looked great!
Just a tip because I know you don't like to fry, I always cooked my plantains with a little bit of butter and they taste delicious.
Thanks for the tip!
That looks so good! but I will never make it, I'm too poor for this salad 🤣
honestly, you could make a salad JUST as delicious and use about half of the ingredients
I won't call that plaintain chip, chips are thin like potato chops in lays. The Caribbean call it fry plaintain
I have to say that it looks really good! But i dont think its worth the amount of stuffs unless you are doing mel prep as others said, BTW plantain is the best thing, i love it with all my heart!
Here's a video idea, trying out different Vegan/Vegetarian chorizo, like Trader Joe's Soy Chorizo
I would love to see a vegan cheese series. Personally I would love to find a vegan gorgonzola since I used to love pasta gorgonzola growing up.
The vegan parmesan I make is very similar to the one by Minimalist Baker, but I only blend the cashews (I use roasted cashews) and I also add lemon pepper and black pepper to it.
have you tried 7 11 hot dogs they are pretty good
An interesting recipe, but as a small eater that's a lot of components to have to use up later and a lot of steps.
@6:52 what about the chickpeas? 😂😂😂
@17:15 😂😂😂😂 I love you, Merle
i need more Aria and Merle subathon mixed together lol
I add citric acid to my homemade parm for tanginess
Whenever I get frustrated about grocery prices, all I have to do is watch someone cooking in a place like CA. While the salad wouldn't be cheap to make here (the priciest part though would be just the hemp seeds) to make a bowl the same size here? ~Maybe~ $15. And would make enough salad for the whole week's worth of lunches.
Me: " i think I might try making this salad!"
Me After Finding Out the Ingredients Are $50: " I will definitely Not be making this salad."
Aint NO salad worth 1/5 of my monthly grocery budget!!😂💀
i feel this
I’ve loved watching Merle since the buzzfeed days but her kitchen makes me claustrophobic. Girl needs a proper kitchen, she earned it.
dang that salad looks amazing
Lactic acid powder is the answer to your vegan Parmesan and a lot of other animal free 'dairy' products. That salad looks worth the effort to me!
50....50...dollars....fifty....five times ten....dollars....salad....pain
Um, Merle - you forgot the kitchen sink. Clearly, missing this important ingredient. As you were assembling I was dying laughing because of the amount of food going in that bowl.
LMAO how foolish of me
I love salads bc I put creamy dressing made of tofu or potatoes, or chickpeas and stuff lol
YUM
@@MerleONeal hehe u sweet
shes gonna be eatin salad for DAYYYYS
I can’t stop laughing
I'm glad
8:18 That's crazy.... but there has to be leftover ingredients for some of the expensive stuff to make another salad, at least??.... But also, that bowl is HUGE. That's two meals at least, too?? Plus, buy in bulk and that will cut the cost if someone makes this salad often.
LOTS AND LOTS of leftover ingredients
and yes, please make a vegan cheese series!
Looks like you woke up and chose violence with that video title 😂
Plantain chips have to be thinly sliced, a mandolin could’ve helped, you were 2 steps close to tostones tho
That ingredients 😅
I’m so basic. My literal every salad is just like two handfuls of spinach, a few chopped up strawberries, some pecans, a bit of vegan feta and vegan chicken cut up 😂
Probs not as healthy but way less messy and time consuming.
Merle I wash your dishes if you can cook for me. You make it look easy.
Deal!
lizzo has a fruit yogurt bowl u should try
Ooh, please do a vegan cheese series!!
Good to know you're interested !
I would substitute the vegan parmesan for vegan feta!
I LOVE blowing $50 on a salad that I'll be eating all week. I'm not being an ass; I really do and I'll most likely make this. When you think about eating it that way you're not worried about the fifteen hours chopping and three days cleaning. Because you're only doing it once and eating healthy for a week. Also I should share that I usually have limited time to eat and I'm only worried about filling my face-hole with something besides pizza. Someone who has enough time to worry about variety may not be as enthusiastic. But YES, absolutely store disassembled, at least partially.
But that other thing, morning person? Let me know how that goes. I've tried for nearly 50 years and if I've ever made it up before 10am on my own I've been so proud of myself. So please let us know if you accomplish this and how. Daytime = Pretty and Not Scary At All, so I feel like I'm missing out.
This one just DEFINITELY didn't last all week, I think next time I'd keep the ingredients separate
You will test vegan cheese recipes?? Yes please!!!
How about Jennifer Aniston's Cobb salad?
ohhh this is a good one
@@MerleONeal omg our girl Merle replied and I'm pretty starstruck right now 😍
Love you girl! Keep up the awesome work!
plantain is wayyy too ripeee
I would love to see some vegans feta recipes, Greek salads are my absolute fave
I mean ... it looks good.
Add some citric acid to the vegan Parmesan to get that tang
Try dumplings from all around the world
You know, you could probably give yourself a pretty convincing Billie Eilish makeover as a gag: I think it's the eyes.
Vegan cheese series supporter hereee
That looks like a salad for like 4 people!
This is a normal amount of food if you are vegan and healthy about it.
