That's so cool the Emperor Ing Screw Attack glitch is a remnant of a beta design for it, I never would've guessed. I adore this game but it definitely could've benefited from an extra year to implement more of the cut storyboard elements and overall a bit better accessibility, as the first play through is always rough on people and therefore I have a hard time recommending it to non diehard Metroid fans. That being said I can't believe they managed to squeeze as much into this game as they did given the time frame, the portion where you mentioned they only had 30% of the game completed with 3 months to deadline made my head spin on how they pulled that off, the crunch must have been absolutely awful.
Glad you enjoyed this video! As I understand, at 30% the base game was basically done to Retro Studios but they had another 70% worth of content they wanted to add to it (as seen in the video). It may be why they were able to get the game done in 3 months afterwards and still being such a good game

That cut Suit design had returned into Metroid Dread long into the story. UNFORTUNATELY, like the Hyper Beam in Super Metroid, it lasts for a limited part of the game.
I loved the original game of Metroid Prime, it was the first Metroid game I had ever played. Metroid Prime 2 was just amazing as well. It added so much more to the game itself and expanded on many of the elements for the original, and also had some of my favorite Prime Bosses being Chykka with its multiple stages and the evolution that it went through as you fought it, and Quadraxis; and the light and dark was just so well done. Definitely a well deserved sequel that didn't get enough love when it came out.
Honestly it was really amazing in how it innovated. Shame it is very underrated too but hopefully if an HD Collection happens, it can get the love it deserves
@@TheObsessiveGamer I was honestly expecting to see footage of the Hyper Ball, and was kinda disappointed when it didn't happen. It's just human nature that makes it hard to give up on good ideas sometimes.
@@MikeThePsykat The real reasons I didn't use the Hyper Ball footage is because I didn't have anything that was an equivalent for the Light Bomb and Annihilator Bomb. I've been waiting for this one! I'm loving Metroid dread right now, but the big one I'm waiting for is Metroid prime 4.. I believe in retro studios and I hope it's another crazy good game
According to the Wiki, a bonus disk-scan for the chykka larvae exists too, so Chykka Swimmer really seems to be the third form. It also makes sense, because Dark Chykka is the form taken after absorbing the dark water, which....ya know, this form had appearently fallen back into because "The Chykka has been temporarily disabled by your attacks". I'd assume that means the fight would have been slightly diffrent with the boss never changing back to the regular adult form. When it comes to the bad ending, this is actually still referenced in the final cutscene, where Dark Samus perishes shortly before being able to touch the Light Suit to attempt absorbing it. This alternate ending(likely if the player's HP falls to 0) was probably scrapped because it simply makes no sense. Metroid Prime was able to take the Phazon Suit because it literally was Phazon turned into technology. But the Light Suit is not, it's not related to Phazon at all. So she would have to somehow deinstall it from Samus' powersuit, and then install it into the Phazon suit before the planet goes bust.(Which gets even weirder when one remembers that the Light Suit was specifically created for the current version of the Power Suit at the time, so it would likely have worse compatability too.)
Yeah I saw that after. Seems I was pretty correct on it being an addition form then lol.Ooh good idea on that reference, While I get Metroid Prime absorbing the Phazon Suit due to its Phazon capabilities, there was one way to spin it in that by taking in DNA of Samus and the Power suit with it, it could now also upgrade its armour the same way Samus does with her Power suit, therefore able to even steal Samus' Light suit. I do as such still think it might have something to do with that near 70% of content that was cut there.
Regarding the Kenobite, you can find the non Mekenobite audio still in the game files. Rather interesting, makes me think the organic version was cut fairly late in development.
i think it probably just didnt fit the overall theme they were trying to do as darksamus was probably one of the core ideas for the future of the trillogy so having light dark worlds during the game where dark samus made its debut just seemed more fitting
Thank you! hope the wait was worth it. Making this video made me remember how good Prime 2 was all along. I feel like doing another playthrough of it now lol

I'm glad that you're giving this fantastic game the love it deserved. As you showed, Metroid Prime 2 would've needed nothing short of a miracle to financially out-perform the juggernauts of GTA and Halo, especially given that the Gamecube itself was struggling. Despite the financial failure, what the dev team managed to produce in such a short timeframe was an amazing achievement and it has always been a shame that the game languished in obscurity for so many years. It's a tale of the triumph of human creativity in spite of capitalist realities which reminds me a lot of Majora's Mask.

I don't really get why Nintendo was so keen on pitting this game up against GTA and Halo. Arrogance? The knock-off ARG marketing is making me wince. Seems especially weird considering that the folks at Retro seemed like they were in dire need of delay. It's amazing that the game still ended up being great. I wouldn't have even thought at the time that it had a rough development at all.
From what I understand, Retro made the base game first at 30% but had plans for including 70% more content on top. Really shows how genius it was for them to do that just in case they couldn't get an extension
At least some prime fans can admit that the Prime games were very inspired by Metroid Fusion a 2d Metroid game which to me the Metroid 2D games are better even though there is no true connection of correlation with each other quote-unquote non-canon which in my opinion is a good thing.
Having beaten almost every game in the franchise (Metroid Prime Pinball and Federation Force being the only Metroid games I haven't played), this one is quite possibly one of my favorites. Zero Mission might be tied with it, though I wouldn't call that a bad thing.
This is my favorite Metroid Prime game I love the challenge thought it was funny some people don't like the game cause it's apparently too hard it's hard but feels rewarding.
@@TheObsessiveGamer right I didn't thought Metroid Prime 2 was that challenging either ya I died quite a bit but eventually got good. I love Metroid Prime 2 it's my favorite Metroid Prime game. I'm so happy today got Metroid Dread for my birthday present my birthday was the first but my party was today.
Kinda reminds me of how people thought fusion is hard(It isn't outside of Low%-playthroughs) and then went surprisepikachu when Zero Mission's normal difficulty is too easy.
If modders managed to revive the old idea i think it could be a really neat idea... except add more zones and areas. Horror and metroid just go together IMO
Another piece of cut content that I'm surprised wasn't in either of these videos was the cut "Dark Luminoth." It has a texture in the game's files and is even seen in one of the game's trailers. ua-cam.com/video/Gbl91ADbM9c/v-deo.html
@@TheObsessiveGamer Idk, that's just what I saw that called. Could just be an earlier design for the Luminoth, though I wonder what that entry on Wikitroid is about then.
@@samiamtheman7379 Yeah I know the entry you do mean. It's hard to engage on if this is just an earlier texture or not. If this was the case, it would be quite an oxymoron to have a being that has "luminous" also have the word dark in there name. Maybe that is why it was drop if this is the case?
According to a scan, the Luminoth completely destroyed their bodies to prevent it from happening, which is likely the reason why no enemy like that exists in the game. It was probably an early story-rewrite to make the prestory-war seem more thought out.
@@TheObsessiveGamer lol i beat the second game 100 % twice before i managed to even beat the first game XD then the third one i beat with out any real issues with out even abusing hyper mode when i first came to a zone only abused it when i had to come back to a zone i had been already XD

@@TheObsessiveGamer Samus was rescued by the Chozo as she was the sole survivor of the Space Pirate raid on her home colony; K2-L, raised and trained by the Chozo to be precise and much later saved by genetic modification mixing Metroid DNA to save Samus' life from a parasite that ran rampant as a part of unintended consequences of her mission to exterminate all Metroid on SR388
I theorize it is as I stated in the video; lack of time. Only being done 30% of the game with 3 months left is very scary, so basically had to simplify the fight. At least MP3 had a sort of fight with Dark Samus using an Aurora Unit.
Sorry I meant the final ing boss with the eyes in the legs (should really have finished watching the end of the video before leaving a comment - it’s been so long since I played Metroid Prime 2 I forgot about the Dark Samus fight!).
The last good metroid game to date was prime 2. Any other after that is either bad or pure garbage (prime 3, other m, 3ds remake and dread). Hoping that prime 4 will be an actual good metroid game.
Mike Wikan has confirmed that the quote "only 30% completed with 3 months left of development for Prime 2" is wrong and that never happened. Where are you getting your information from? It might be a bit dated.
The producer Tanabe literally said it in an Iwata Asks as seen here web.archive.org/web/20120105191317/www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/interview/rm3j/vol1/index2.html
@@KIWITALKZ I understand that the interview exists that you conducted, but this isn't a translation error at all and it becomes a discussion within it too. While i'm unsure why the two of them contradict each other for sure, the interview does seem to point to how 30% was considered as basically complete to Retro Studios for the base game as Tanabe states "for the people in the retro studio, I think it was pretty complete." Thus my conclusion is that the other 70% seemingly was going to be other ideas they had for the game that didn't happen. Thus Mike Wikan being from the Retro side of things found the base game pretty complete at 30% but they had plans for an additional 70% of content that much of which didn't happen by the end.

@@novustalks7525 Yep, I am thinking of covering the entire 2D series too after done the 3D series, so Dread would be a part of it
@@TheObsessiveGamer can't wait!!
Happy to see the Metroid community coming to life with lots of content.
Happy to see the Metroid Community also support these videos that i've kept the series going :3
It surprises me how this guy only has 16k subscribers, despite his videos being incredibly high quality lol
Thank you very much! we have gone from 1K to 16K in a year so it's still decent progress. But liking and sharing videos does help us grow too if you wish to do so :)
Cool video. Earned yourself a new subscriber.
Thank you!
I took part in the original LT as well. I helped create and run the fan-run Chozo Sanctuary that came after LT shut down.
Oh nice! I spoke to another veteran of the LT here yesterday too. I have heard of Chozo Sanctuary, but never looked too much into it.
I never knew about the viral marketing of Prime 2.
I guess you learn something everyday. :)
Yep.. I lived and remembered this one even lol
15:58 Doesn't Dark Samus have an attack like that in the final game?
Kind of, although it's not exactly in a morph ball
Yeah it's more of a dash more without turning into a ball
At least some prime fans can admit that the Prime games were very inspired by Metroid Fusion a 2d Metroid game which to me the Metroid 2D games are better even though there is no true connection of correlation with each other quote-unquote non-canon which in my opinion is a good thing.
Having beaten almost every game in the franchise (Metroid Prime Pinball and Federation Force being the only Metroid games I haven't played), this one is quite possibly one of my favorites. Zero Mission might be tied with it, though I wouldn't call that a bad thing.
MP2 is quite underrated Imo. I would hope that it can gain that recognition it deserves one day
Oh wow i remember those ARG sites from back in the day, they weren't very subtle were they haha
I do absolutely love the direct jabs. Would be neat to see it again for MP4
The line between light and dark is so very thin
You mean in this game?
@@TheObsessiveGamer oh no just a reference to another game
a bad ending would've been lit
Indeed. Would have truly shown how threatening Dark Samus was at that
I hope we see these unused ideas in 4
Especially the multiplayer in MP4 would be neat
Glad you made it!
Thank you!
This is my favorite Metroid Prime game I love the challenge thought it was funny some people don't like the game cause it's apparently too hard it's hard but feels rewarding.
I personally like harder games, but I never found this game THAT hard. Was kinda surprised to see some even complaining about it then.
I have been waiting for this.
Hope you enjoyed it :)
This video is FREAKING AMAZING
Thank you!!
If modders managed to revive the old idea i think it could be a really neat idea... except add more zones and areas.
Horror and metroid just go together IMO
thanks you very much for the video
Thank you very much for watching :)
2004 was an unreal year for gaming
Truly an amazing year. The equivalent of 1998 for that gen
Another piece of cut content that I'm surprised wasn't in either of these videos was the cut "Dark Luminoth." It has a texture in the game's files and is even seen in one of the game's trailers.
ua-cam.com/video/Gbl91ADbM9c/v-deo.html
I didn't see any Dark Luminoth in that trailer? I know there is some early textures for the Luminoth, but never seen any Dark ones?
But… there was a version of the triclops in the sanctuary fortress?
Yeah those are Mechlops, which are based on them. I meant the live version of them from Metroid Prime 1
@@TheObsessiveGamer ohhhh fair enough! Anyway it was a good video and I liked it!
24:06 woah looking at that list, im a kid again
fun thing i found the second game much easier then the first game
I didn't find it anymore difficult imo but I think some bosses like the Boost Guardian is what gave a lot of people trouble
@@TheObsessiveGamer lol i beat the second game 100 % twice before i managed to even beat the first game XD
then the third one i beat with out any real issues with out even abusing hyper mode when i first came to a zone only abused it when i had to come back to a zone i had been already XD
I'd love to see the prime games brought back on the switch, think they could redo all three games and put them on one chip?
Well the rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy HD has been going on for quite some time, so here's hoping they do it. It should fit fine on one cart imo They aren't BIG games
I heart you and your channel
Thank you very much :3
Last game in this trilogy? *Laughs in Prime 4*
Well storywise this did complete the trilogy. 4 would be the start of a new story I imagine and maybe even its own trilogy
@@TheObsessiveGamer yeah, it was just a joke xd the trilogy is complete but we have a quadrilogy waiting for us and maybe even more! :)
Cool video
Thank you!
This is my kind of video! But man, relax. You're shouting the words. You sound like you're giving a presentation at school. Very interesting video though! Love seeing those old designs!
Thank you! Yeah might have spoke a tad too fast (especially in the middle), i'll plan to work on it. Thanks for the feedback! Hope you enjoy the other channels of the video too
This game has so much more deleted content than I would've thought.
It surprised me too. Technically even Metroid Prime 1.5 could be apart of this.
Just imagine if they made online multiplayer 😱😱😱
Man that'd be truly hype. Hopefully MP4 does
23:07 there are currently 32 members online... and I am one of them

@@TheObsessiveGamer it was another former Templar who told me about this video. A lot of us still regularly keep in touch.

Hello there
@@TheObsessiveGamer GENERAL ARAN
I think Half-Life 2 was also released around the same time as Halo 2, which further lowered Prime 2's sales.
I do think Half-Life 2 didn't compete so much, especially since back then the field of PC gaming had a whole separate people for the most part.
@@TheObsessiveGamer I was thinking about the console port of HL2 (Xbox). For those who didn't have strong PC back then, that port was the only way for many fans to play the anticipated sequel.
Though admittedly, I have no knowledge if the Xbox version sold well.
2004 was a good year for video games.
Indeed. We even got RE4 that year too.
@@TheObsessiveGamer It was actually 2005 when RE4 released. The 2000s was probably the most interesting decade for the video game industry.
@@EpsilonChurchRVB Oh right, been a while lol But it was one of the best no doubt.
I wonter if the Humatroid inspired the ending of Dread in any way.
Gotta actually play my copy first before I can comment further on this lol
I bet that the criticism on the difficulty was all thanks to the boost guardian lol
Yeahhhh that's what I'm thinking too lol I had forgotten how tough it was till this video lol
That suit on the thumbnail is CRIMINALLY similar to certain last upgrade of a recent 2d Metroid game....
Haven't gotten around to Dread just yet, but looking forward to it!
I have a question witch is honting me. The question is (Is samus a human and can she take of her zero suit like a human?)
Yes Samus is human but raised by the bird people, the "Chozo"
@@TheObsessiveGamer Samus was rescued by the Chozo as she was the sole survivor of the Space Pirate raid on her home colony; K2-L, raised and trained by the Chozo to be precise and much later saved by genetic modification mixing Metroid DNA to save Samus' life from a parasite that ran rampant as a part of unintended consequences of her mission to exterminate all Metroid on SR388
The original idea to defeat the final boss is vastly superior to what was in the final game, wonder why they changed it?
I theorize it is as I stated in the video; lack of time. Only being done 30% of the game with 3 months left is very scary, so basically had to simplify the fight. At least MP3 had a sort of fight with Dark Samus using an Aurora Unit.
Sorry I meant the final ing boss with the eyes in the legs (should really have finished watching the end of the video before leaving a comment - it’s been so long since I played Metroid Prime 2 I forgot about the Dark Samus fight!).
@@TheMackMetroid Ah yes. Either same theory, or it was going to be too complex a fight and they cut it? I am thinking the latter more in this case.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
LEEEETS GOOOOOO!!
The last good metroid game to date was prime 2. Any other after that is either bad or pure garbage (prime 3, other m, 3ds remake and dread). Hoping that prime 4 will be an actual good metroid game.
10:21 if had a proper scan, would be 101%
Hehe
Did think its like dread but i get it naw woow 2022
Did you just use the Light Beam on Dark Samus bro? Pretty cringe bro.
Not my footage, so not me doing that lol
@@TheObsessiveGamer I figured 🤣 just a joke anyway. Thanks for the good content.
@@TheObsessiveGamer ua-cam.com/video/hlbeRLmfCHk/v-deo.html 30:50 minute mark.
Probably a translation issue with Iwata Asks
@@KIWITALKZ I understand that the interview exists that you conducted, but this isn't a translation error at all and it becomes a discussion within it too.
While i'm unsure why the two of them contradict each other for sure, the interview does seem to point to how 30% was considered as basically complete to Retro Studios for the base game as Tanabe states "for the people in the retro studio, I think it was
pretty complete."
Thus my conclusion is that the other 70% seemingly was going to be other ideas they had for the game that didn't happen.
Thus Mike Wikan being from the Retro side of things found the base game pretty complete at 30% but they had plans for an additional 70% of content that much of which didn't happen by the end.
@@TheObsessiveGamer If that is true, then that is actually pretty impressive.
