Back when this came out people were complaining that Hawk Boy's death wasn't dignified but I liked this better. Because Horus wanted the same thing, a graceful and clean execution, but Sanguinius said ''No, you don't get to enjoy this'' and kept coming until Horus was forced to put him down.
Plus its kinda the whole reason behind the Black Rage. The Blood Angels aren't falling into a pyschic blood rage where they think they're Sanguinius fighting Horus because he was simply defeated in a duel. It has to be brutal and traumatic for that sort of backlash through their bloodline to make sense.
I knew it was coming but I still had man-tears 😭. Abnett did so well in making it feel like the Angel could do it…which made that moment where Horus catches him by the ankle and slams him down all the more devastating.
This is how most Warhammer stories end, people. Nothing good ever lasts. Those who shouldn't die, die horribly. The future is grim, dark and bleak for there is only war... ...and the laughter of thirsting Gods. *This* is why the genre is popular.
The way he read this really makes me rethink the "laughter of thirsting gods" line. It's not just that the gods are laughing. It's the way all that is good and heroic is crushed, humiliated, and degraded by an enemy that literally couldn't care less. It's one thing for the hero to fall to a superior opponent in a valiant last stand. But in 40k, the hero is paid no respect or honour. They are the hero to their people, but to the enemy, they're just an insignificant plaything, and to me, that's one of the most dreadful things about the 40k universe
The setting draws you in with this premise because it appeals to the part of you that wants to rage against it. The Dark Gods are worthy of your hatred.
Blood angels has been my army for most of my life, the awe and sorrow Sanguinius and his sons go through as a group has always been so impactful. Great characters and faction. Another amazing reading Chris! Gah right in the feels!
I love your treatment of this. I remember reading it, and that same feeling of detached observation from Horus comes through perfectly in your reading. Taking this horrific ending to such a beautiful character and picking it apart under a harsh light, taking all nobility away from his resistance and leaving just... Futility.
Please... PLEASE do more 40k. I never was big on audio books but I will buy ANYTHING you read bro. My God the emotions that you captured in this passage. I've listened to it at least 10 times already
The Angel falls while facing the end in its eyes, the refuse to admit his end before his point. I would say it inspired even post emotion emperor enough for that first crash.
This is excellent. I love how dispassionate and matter of fact you are when describing the beating and death of the angel. The whole read is masterful but theres something about "Worldbreaker shreds armor and flesh" as though this were a routine autopsy report from some imperium doctor too busy to be horrified. Simply incredible. The moment in question: 3:00
@@NaturallyRPVoiceover by chance, have you performed the moment that the Emperor rises from the Throne to join his Custodes in defending the webway? I believe the excerpt is from Master of Mankind. I'd be very interested in your interpretation.
Ive never played Warhammer and I’ve only just recently started to get into it On very loose knowledge the Blood Angels and kriegsmarines have become my favorite To hear such a visceral display personified is amazing to witness as a writer myself(not a big writer mainly dungeons and dragons campaigns or short stories) I need to find this book
I am here. 2 months later. To say, my brother in Christ you figure something out, if you can get something by Dan abnett I will buy more than one copy.
Idk few stories hit me hard, his death was one of those I heard about and it fr made me sad made me want revenge for the blood angels, they have done well with the story, because now I wanna rip every son of horus or black legion out of existence. That and the chaos gods themselves I want them to suffer he did. All for a made up character in a book. I like it Picasso 👌
The narration describes it perfectly. It's less a killing in a war. Which is horrible but usually necessary, or quick. This was instead a Murder. One of the highest degree, one of fratricide. Pure evil. Perfect narration
In short - probably not. I do some form of emotional preparation before every one of these - the idea being to be in a more emotionally accessible state when performing - so that's the by product!
as soon as you fall to the black rage, this plays in your head

Fantasic. The death of the angel is one of the saddest things for a fan of 40k to read. The brave angels fall.
I knew it was coming but I still had man-tears 😭.

As a Blood Angels fanboy this was hard for me to read. All I could think of was the Godfather quote "Look How They Massacred My Boy"
The angel 😢
Guardian of the imperium
Beautiful rendition
Thank you!

40k is survival and persistence in a hostile world. No matter what is against humanity, we will _never_ give up.

Phenomenal performance as always
Thank you!
Gloriously magnificent but sad in the tone perfection in all of the tones you did great battle brother the great angel lives in all of his sons
Honestly, I don't have the words for how you convey this thru words and inflection and facial expression. Simply outstanding in every aspect.
Thank you so much!

Heart wrenching, this scene. Made all the better by your performance.

Incredible reading. You did a great job of conveying in speech what the author conveyed in writing.

"I need no sword" -Sanguinius
The Emperor may forgive Horus, but I never will.
Another banger! (The nails are biting!!!)
When finishing that book I remember thinking this would be a great scene for a certain UA-cam channel.
And here it is, masterfully done.
Also why don’t we acknowledge how ripped bro is! Amazing la!
🙌
I felt that
Thanks for watching!!
Father... 🥺
This made me fall to the black rage
HOOORRRUUUUUUSSSS!
My pigeon boy....
A truly heartbreaking fall
The exchange in high gothic between Eisenhorn and Osma on Cadia in the book Malleus would be epic.
For the love of the Emporer I'd give anything for you to do the full audio book like this

Can't blame the man. Most of the quotes he's said have hit the emotional spot on me
