    At one point I had 5 kids ages 8 and under. The whole "my kids didn't help" doesn't fly with me, sis. You're the mother. When kids are little you do most of it and as they get older you teach them more and more and when they are teenagers they are already used to helping keep things clean because they've been doing it so many years.
    There's no excuse for the house getting like that. Period. No matter what.

      👏🏾👏🏾 Yes she used her kids as an excuse. I have 5 kids all 8 and under and they see me cleaning constantly so guess what they ALWAYS try to help mommy do... clean. She’s not a clean person and never has been, she set that example. They are just mocking what they’ve seen their whole lives 🤦🏽‍♀️🤢

      Yep my sister and her children lived like that no matter where they lived because my sister . @@RCButterfly I'm not making excuses for her and if she really can't even keep a clean place for her kids then she needs to be taking medication or something to help her. I have BP, along w PTSD, anxiety and depression. I don't take meds rn but if the time came that I felt I needed to, I would. Our kids shouldn't have to suffer, we brought them here. However, depression/mental illness is REAL af and sometimes ppl get so sad, they can't eat, sleep and barely take care of themselves. It's ok if that happens, as long as you're proactive about helping yourself be better too. Maybe go over and offer to help her clean, maybe she's just hella overwhelmed by herself. Sounds like she feels really alone.. For her and her kids sake, I hope she feels better soon.

    • @Muirmaiden
      @Muirmaiden 3 роки тому

      @emmett carney Do you have some kind of window of knowledge to know what all single mothers do? In this case, the husband/father committed suicide. No men were being blamed here. This "mother" has issues that need to be dealt with, she needs to get help and take responsibility. I don't see anyone denying that.

    • @Muirmaiden
      @Muirmaiden 3 роки тому

      @emmett carney You don't think that men contribute to how their sons turn out? That boys don't pick up on how their fathers treat their mothers or females in general or that fathers don't abuse their sons? Or that a father being absent doesn't have anything to do with it (and bear in mind, there are deadbeat fathers out there). I never said all men are bad, nor did I say all women are good. Nor did I say anything about feminism. You're the one spewing and projecting here. Please show the statistics that back up your statements. It's likely far more complex than you like to portray it. I was abused as a child, by a male and a female. I don't need anyone to tell me that women can be abusive, cruel, or even murderous.

The fridge, living room, kitchen, those are YOUR responsibility as the adult.
    Depression? Yeah, I have severe depression and my house has NEVER and would NEVER look like this. Some clutter is normal, and mental health can impact this but Nope. No excuse.

    My mother raised 6 kids and we grew up in a neat organized clean home. Cleaning was never on this woman’s agenda ever. She is lying through her teeth. Every time I encounter someone with a dirty cluttered disorganized home they blame it on the kids the husband and even the family dog and they only started blaming the dog after the kids moved out and the husband died. They always have an excuse and never take responsibility for it. They need to participate in their own lives.. Even if you use reason with them it does not work. I told a woman who had a cluttered garage if you have 400 items in your garage that you can physically pick up and throw out and put one item a day in the trash you would only have 35 items left in your garage after 12 months. She told me when I said that that I was being mean to her. She said that because after I explained it in a way an idiot could understand, there was no way she could have an excuse to not clean out the garage.

    What is sad is this is not the only time that I have seen houses that look this bad. Depression can be a big demotivator for something like this but I still don't get it.

    For the record; EVERY mother pretty much does it by herself. I mean, who has young kids that help out in a truly meaningful and impactful way. Yes, they may pick up their toys or make their beds but generally speaking, mothers are not burdening their children with the upkeep of the home. She's just plain nasty and the fact that she has her kids living in such conditions is criminal.

    Poor woman is clearly very unwell. She says she was depressed. This kind of shaming is unforgiveable. How is it helpful to her ( and her poor kids) to have her shame paraded for cheap entertainment. Dr. Phil is a grief tourist guide and all watching ( myself included) are on the tour bus.

    Yes it’s plain disgusting and hard for me to fathom how or why she let it get this bad, especially when others, her kids, live with her, but to give her some credit when you’re depressed it honestly can get this bad. There’s a Korean UA-cam channel Clean Avengers who cleans these kinds of homes and the stories of the ppl living in the trash are honestly really sad, they’re depressed and gone through some trauma. Not excusing her behavior especially when she is responsible for her kids wellbeing too, but depression is a valid reason in this situation and she first and foremost needs to seek psychological help, not through dr. Phil on national television, this isn’t helping

    Okay firstly bob sounds like a genuinely amazing man.
    Secondly, some people just can't cope. I think it's horrendous when trained psychologists will publicly judge someone clearly struggling with their mental health.
    Depression, anxiety and childhood trauma can present itself in this way.
    Hoarding, uncleanness, blame shifting as they can't accept their own reality.
    Everyone here is a victim. Bob, the children and also the mother.
    Everyone is so quick to point the finger of judgment and berate her instead of helping or just trying to understand why this is a continued struggle for her.
    Some people have not been adequately trained in childhood.
    As for the people saying we'll my mum had 10 kids and 16 parrots and had depression and kept a clean house etc etc well good for your mum, that is truly amazing if she can do that.
    Everyone is different, has different capabilities and coping abilities.
    You can't base judgement of another's actions off something you or someone you know would do differently because we are all different, some of us will need more help than others.
    I figured in 2021 we wouldn't be shaming a single mother clearly not coping and saying I was depressed. Shame on everyone in that audience, these comments and dr. Phil himself for judging someone admitting they did wrong and opening up as to why. No one knows what that woman has been through or lives inside her head.
    It could be a daily life of reliving trauma, depression is exhausting.
    I think she needs compassion and therapy. Help.

    It's why I will always sell and not rent. No one is going to treat your home the way you would especially renters because it's not their home so they have a I don't care attitude. If they had 350,000 in debt for that house it would be a different story.

One thing I don't understand: is you are depressed and can't take care of yourself or your kids properly (I'm not judging, I've been there, some days you just can't get out of bed I get it) but why would you get any animals?? That's where 90% of the gross filth comes from!

    Growing up, our house would get scary close to this bad, often. My mother would eventually pull an all nighter once in a while and clean it all at once. She suffered severe childhood trauma and mental health issues that I sadly inherited the predisposition to. (She is doing much better nowadays) We never had pests, but there was clutter shoved in closets, little pieces of random trash here and there on the floor, or dresser. Dishes in bedroom. Pet turds not picked up, the kitchen floor tile, I don’t even want to talk about it. Weeks worth of dishes, 3 foot pile of laundry in the laundry room. I remember my mother always telling us it was our fault for not helping. And I believed it, but I also always felt like that wasn’t entirely fair as I knew she was ultimately responsible for the state of her home. And yes I definitely shoulda coulda done more chores with less backtalk. But in my defense, I was never trained as a child to take care of the house. I was just supposed to start pitching in all of the sudden in mid to late elementary school. And the odd thing is, our house was never that bad when my mom was a single mom. Anyway, thought ppl would appreciate the take from someone who’s lived it. It’s no excuse but I low key understand how bad mental health can get. Willpower who? I vowed to never lived like that. I let some chores pile up sometimes but not anymore than the average person who does that from time to time. Mainly laundry really but I have learned as an adult, it’s the STUFF/CLUTTER that gets ya.
