Without a doubt saxophonist Robin Verheyen and pianist Bram De Looze are among the most prominent figures of the Belgian jazz scene. They’re virtuosos on their instruments, visionary composers and band leaders following their own unique trajectories.
For several years they have been playing the repertory of Thelonious Monk as a duo. Now they will be joined by the American percussionist Joey Baron, who’s known from his collaborations with John Zorn (Masada, Naked City), Bill Frisell, Marc Copland, and many others. He’s the ideal challenger in honoring Monk’s music.

Delicious to play along with on Bass!.. (I did so with the live-stream of 5 feb '22). Joey Baron is an excellent percussionist, being my Holy Grail while playing..) I could completely reyl on it, and the notes flew out almost by themselves. But playing along forces you to get deeply into the subltle and fast grooves (ánd the slow 'open space' ones), and then the rhithmic qualities of the pianist (Bram de Looze) and the saxofonist (Robin Verheyen) truely revealed themselves. This is an excellent team! Ik wou bijna besluiten met "Belgie is er sinds Kuifje (TinTin) beslist op vooruit gegaan", maar dan wordt ik vermoedelijk gekielhaald.. Bedankt!! Groeten uit Nijmegen.
