I'd try using your salt mixture on the Mt Dew Shrimp.. get them the color, then dry them out well with the salt mixture.. you may be on to a new product line. ;)

Shrimp soaked in cherry red Kool Aid works really well. The bright color of the red and the sweetness of the smell can attract a lot of fish.

Try using elasticated bait twine for softer baits like the Mt Dew shrimp. It will last much longer on the hook.

that deeper sonar is sweet, gotta save up for a new one. a pike absolutely smashed mine.
those dew shrimp reminds me of a trick my grandpa taught me, wed soak shrimp in blaccurrant syrup overnight then put them in salt for another night. it would work great with salmon, turned the bait deep red. worth trying.

8:39 With a spinning reel, always pump back and reel in coming forward with less line tension. They aren't made to built to winch in a fish like a bait caster. And you won't put jam your line on the spinning spool and screw up your next cast.

I think the citric acid in the Mountain Dew breaks down the tissue of the shrimp instead of toughening. You might try coating them in untinted egg cure and letting cure for a couple of days in the fridge to see if that toughens them up. You could also try salt but I think that might react with the MD and make them unpalatable to the fish.

@@HeySkipper Egg cure is a powder made up of borax and a few other ingredients that is used to prepare salmon egg skeins. It causes the fluid in he skein to turn to gel and toughens the eggs. Simply pat dry the shrimp then spread them out on a tray, liberally coat them with the egg cure, cover with plastic wrap and put in fridge for a few days then check them for toughness. If not tough enough and the cure has been absorbed sprinkle more cure on them and put back in the fridge for a few more days and so on. BTW I have had absolutely no experience doing this but knowing what the cure does to salmon eggs leads me to believe it should work.
