A quote I enjoy: "Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society. The optimist invents the aereoplane, the pessimist the parachute"
brilliant
🎉congrats. When I got my black belt last year, I was expecting the biggest congrats from the lower belts. To my surprise it came from the other black belts. I realised that even as an aspirational target, it’s just not a big deal to others when you get your black belt, it’s big to you and it’s big to those that understand the commitment it takes to get there. If you’re doing it for acclaim, you wont be happy at the end because 99.99% of people don’t know the work required, so don’t give a fuck. These things are worth doing for you and you alone.
Absolutely spot on. Have a good 2024 brother
Mate this is legit amazing. How you've explained this is quality! 🤌
Same with when I turned back up to work on a Monday after having done a 100mile ultramarathon over the previous weekend....... people could care less.
well said
Massive congrats and well said. One of my black belt instructors said he felt like he only just started truly understanding BJJ once he got his black belt. One belt off black myself and I think I’m finally starting to understand what he meant.
2months ago I was diagnosed with heart failure - with the prognosis that if the heavy duty meds don’t work I have 6 mths left. My heart is only pumping at 50% but I’m fit & have no symptoms- as yet - so I’m still at the gym looking for gains - nothing has changed in n someways & yet I’m wondering when will the day come that I can’t lift anymore and I’m a bonafide sick person. 2024 has become my watershed moment I’m not worried so much about how long I have but am totally terrified of a slow decline into being an invalid, unable to breathe, swollen limbs & difficulty walking, so I try to keep the belief that as I’m already an outlier without the normal symptoms maybe I’ll defy the normal prognosis & continue to live a full life for many years & die of something unrelated.
may Allah bless you and keep you healthy amen
💪
that is not how heart failure works. If the EF is 50, that is not great but not terrible, if it is 30-35% which would be pumping half of the normal, that would just indicate the amount of medication and intervention.
Heart failure is a stochastic condition, the worse it is, the more likely other problems can happen, but there is no "6 months left".
@@sciencefliestothemoon2305 it’s actually 25 for the left ventricle which is half what it should be - I just used the simpler 50% for expediency - the cardiologist gave me the prognosis of 6mths - which I was surprised at such a defined parameter - rather than a variable estimate. I familiar with how ejection fraction works and understand the effects of reduced function - my main takeaway is that my illness doesn’t have to proceed as forecast based on averages -I can be the exception
@@sciencefliestothemoon2305 well said. I was thinking the same when I read this comment .
I enjoyed this. Well done Jimbo 🔥😊
Look people in the eyes with passion, maintain excellent hygiene, and excellent mobile posture.
Mah man James spittin str8 fax.
If you don’t have faith, then fear will take over.
James has to be the best speaker (not necessarily motivational) on this platform. Down to earth, says how it is and isn't afraid of being wrong. I aspire to gain and maintain these qualities myself, much love matey
Congrats James!
Congrats on the brown belt James! I’ve taken a break from Jiu jitsu for the past year but your videos have inspired me to go back this week. All the best.
Love the no bs advice James gives
Ah mate, the best video yet....thanks so much and happy new year to you! Thanks so much for the incredibly positive content you put out. You're changing lives you absolute human being you.
Coupla hours in an already a humble brag?! 😂😂 fair play, mate. That's a commitment!
Happy New Year, James!
James, I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your work!
I really like your realness, as watching your videos - I really feel that I listen to a human, who doesn't want to trick me!
Thank you one more time!
Thanks for the time to make this video, it hits hard!
Every Rolex owner was once Casio wearer 💪🏻
And every true watch loving Rolex wearer still rocks their Casio from time to time
Casio = God tier!
You'll take my G-Shock from my cold dead hands! ☠️ ⌚
I take your point, but if I was a millionaire I would still wear my Casio F-91W because I think of watches as functional items, and a £50,000 Rolex doesn't tell time any better than a £10 Casio... But I also realise I'm in the minority here!
@@schnozz87 then I'm in the minority with you. Rolex is for weak egos. Watches dont make me feel better.
Couldn't think of a better video to kick off my morning (and year). Thanks dude.
Congrats on the brown belt! Started BJJ because of your vids and loving it. Happy new year to you!
Bro is spitting facts every video. makes me get better fr.
All about consistency. Love it.
The only pep talk I need for 2024 thanks for keeping it real, James never disappointed watching your videos ❤
What a great video man! ❤ thank you! And happy new year! ❤
Very helpful as always my friend.
Things I actually knew already in this case, but sometimes we simply just need a reminder :)
Thank you, James. I needed to hear this ☺️
Awesome vid. Exactly the thing I've needed to hear on 1st of January. Thanks 👏
thanks for this video James, I needed this today!
Thank you James, this is a fantastic perspective to hear. Oss.
Thank you, James. Have a brilliant 2024! 🎉
Needed that. Thanks Jim💯
Thank you for this video - it came at the perfect time for me. I keep looking at content creators that have been in the game for years and thinking I'm not good enough. When you said, everyone had to start with zero views and zero subscribers, I realized I was looking at it the wrong way. Thanks for the reset :)
Very powerful. It's interesting when you switch your mindset to have values, it tends to also become less about you, the individual. Removing yourself from selfish goals comes with taking responsibility.
Thanks for this. Happy this is the first video I've watched in 2024.
Thanks alot James, it is Worth listening too.
Thank you for this. The courage of belief is 100% what needs be shared.
Good book to read is Bounce.
Congrats on the BJJ brown belt. I’ve done it for 10 years and currently a brown belt and still going strong. Love the sport.
Whenever a white belt asks me how I got to brown belt, I tell them to keep turning up and take care of any injuries.
Also changed my gym training adding in BJJ specific items using Scramble grips and fat grips.
Plus studying Japanese as a hobby - 1 hour a day self study, 2 lessons a week and supplemented with some Apps while on the tube.
Message is spot on. Be consistent and get a routine.
As the Japanese say, 頑張ってください! (please try your best).
Sick af bro. Thank you.
This is so good. I think this idea used to scare me. That I didn't need to be special, or even that capable, but I just needed to put in the mundane and daily work. I think it is easier to believe that great people are different in some way, as it allowed me to stay where I was. Courage to ACT really is the way. Cheers James!
Bro this is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I’m like 2 minutes in and my mind is blown 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Almost got my blue belt and won some medals in white belt comps since starting BJJ last September.
Jiu jitsu is the first time I’ve found something in life where if you put 100% effort into something you get 100% recognition from your peers around you.
I’ve never felt that from school before, never felt that at work and I rarely get recognition for my effort from the commercial gym I go to.
People seem to really recognise and appreciate when you are improving. I have found that people don’t hold back telling you this too which creates such a positive environment to be in.
Congrats on your promo mate so good to see people level up! I got my blue in 2018 and I’m still chasing purple, Covid, injury and of course periods of time I just couldn’t be bothered has set me back. Last year was the most consistent I’ve trained for years and I’m closer than ever to getting rid of that old blue belt. Your videos definitely gave me the push to get back on the mat so thanks!!
Keep grinding bro. I got my blue in 2012. Just got my purple last week. Injuries, covid, life. Whatever happens keep coming Back to the mats.
@@Ibz87 oh man that must of felt amazing congrats!! Ultimately I only want it when i deserve it so even if it takes another year!!
@@shaneroberts2492 thanks bro. Yeh was a pretty epic moment. I still haven’t absorbed it fully. If you have trust in your coach he will know when your ready.
Thank you for this video, for your non bullshit content and for being you.
Congrats on the brown belt brother!! Absolutely LOVE your content! Now I gotta go buy your books! 😮
Superb video and superb message. Excellently articulated
Top man James 👍
30 minutes a day. brilliant
Really appreciate your comments and insight James. Your words means so much to me as I take my journey from Blue Belt onwards.
Thank you so much !!!!!!
Good video James. Thanks. I needed to hear this message. Currently a blue belt in bjj. I agree with how impactful it has been to me.
Your book arrives today and I'll be going to my first BJJ class next week. Hopeful that I'm about to change my life and get out of this rut
Brilliant advice. This is why I love my life, realistic goal setting, so I'm successful against my own target
This s the perfect video at the perfect time. Studying Stoicism and this is it in a nutshell.
G'day mate from Darren in Australia.
I love you're openess & straight talk u & I have a very similar belief system & it's refreshing to hear others think how I think! Keep strong & speak the truth to power ! Thanks, mate.
Well said. solid video as always 💪
Proud of you james 👏
Great start to the year inspiration.Hoping to be ready for my PT training journey soon.Quality tips and knowledge with a no BS approach, glad there’s someone else that thinks like me cheers James
Congratulations on your brown belt .
Well said about defining success .
Showing up and being a good training partner in the end that is gold on the mats.
You could be the world’s best grappler and a horrible human/ training partner.
I just got my brown belt a few weeks back.
I show up and grapple the inner demons
Some days you win , some days you get smashed
Happy new year.. and well done on the brown belt
I needed this. ❤.
I often wonder why people just go to the gym when there are so many sports you can partake in. Its an important point to make that, In my view, you'll likely get more out of doing a sport or some activity (for me its running) where by the aesthetic of how you look is the least important part of why you do it. I do work out in the gym, but I do this to aid my running as a result of this is that overall I do get the benefits that come with being fit and healthy and that does include a certain aesthetic in the way I look.
LOVE this!!
Now that I'm older and have achieved many things, I have encountered that all achievements feel meh... And I rarely get that excitement of the thing to achieve anymore... something inside me says "what's the point?"... Now I get why older dogs don't run for the ball anymore, they realized there is no point 😆... So shit, what a downer.. I got existentialist with the years and life feels pretty pointless, so, I enjoy the simple things, a coffee in the morning, training, playing videogames, go fishing, listening to good music or podcast.. All of this is cheap and easy no struggle... and maybe that's alright..
Amazing James, congrats on the promotion! 🥳 Thanks for the amazing content as always. Started with your business blueprint, its amazing mate. Definitely applying this as well in 2024. Keep doing what you do… OSS
Well done James, I met him at the adcc Austin open, such a nice lad & really down to earth.
Thank you bro
Wise words ❤
Top man thanks James god bles you
Yes 🙌 and congratulations on your brown belt!
nicely said...great vid
Great message. All the best wishes for 2024
I agree it is all about MINDSET - but you are still BLOODY GREAT and JACKED... so THANX James!👍
Awesome!!
Huge congrats on the brown belt bro
Good stuff. I've written 16 books in the last 6 years. In regard to believing, I say don't wait to believe until you act. You just need to move. Do it now, believe it later. We've all become outcome dependent. We want someone to promise results before we start.
Nailed it unit!
thank you i needed this hard talk. i can do 30 minutes a day....and then continue with my procrastination after
Congrats on the faixa marrom
Great work man
Yes James!! 💪🏻
Thank you
Congratulations on the brown belt! ❤️
the best pep talk out of that whole video was 'so get at it, you p-'
5:47 GOLD!! 👏🏼
Smithy dropping nuggets here 💪🏼
Well done on the brown belt! And thanks for sharing the video. Loads of useful info 👍 I’m at the stage were I’m shit in front of a camera tbh. But like you say it’s about getting the reps in everyday!
Excellent. First video in 2024! I'll be back next month for another. I'd rather be doing than consuming... but that doesn't mean there is not great content out there. This is one of them!
let's freaking GO!
Love ya content mate
Happy new year James
"Out the gene pool." Love this video! Funny, insightful, well intended. Keep it up!
Amazing work 👏🏻😎
Truth, good vid ✌🏼❤️💡
Nice one mate, we got our blue at the same grading, good to see your progression.
this is brilliant, love the evolution optimist analogy haha! but yeah hit some great points there.
this guy is awesome
Nothing new, but a good reminder
Just downloaded the audiobook of How to be Confident on Spotify 😊
Well done on getting your brown belt👍
Yes mate, really appreciate that message ❤❤
I got my purple belt in August and it was a big achievement for me but the belt is only apart of the journey and the grind of jiu jitsu is what keep me going
I'm already subscribed which is something of a shock?, This is very different to the earlier videos of yours that I have watched: albeit different but just as valuable. Some get there by 30 minutes a day?, do they really?. Other writers: draw together collate and sequence data over years/decades, and then have their drunk or drugged weekend binge of writing? (what place does Hemingway's "write drunk edit sober" have in this algorithm? (the fashionable word of the silly season) great stuff, an honourable kick in the butt needed by so many, hopefully this has helped many.....
I've just started BJJ at 50, Everyone I've met through it are so humble and so willing and patient and you just know they genuinely want me to do well
John Danaher once said, and he probably wasn't the first person to ever say this, "People overestimate what they can accomplish in a year, but underestimate what they can accomplish in 5 years."
On different scales, the same is true. If you do something for 30 minutes a day, don't expect a miracle in one month. But if you do something for 30 minutes a day for a year, you can see some measurable achievements.
