    My Wife and I are now retired and enjoy the relaxing environment that comes with no longer a "9 to 5" lifestyle. On most Saturdays, we like to go out and search for Garage Sales. We have always found many treasures. Over the past 3 years I have been buying, mostly Zebco 33 reels, for less than $5.00 each. I have bought many for $1.00. I would say I've bought maybe 12 of these reels over the past 3 years. About half of them were "Frozen" due to lack of maintenance. I bought them all and gave each one a very good cleaning and lubrication just like in your video. Everyone of them now works fine. I have sold about 5 of them. It is a real easy way to turn $1.00 into $15.00. Again, thank you for your video!!!!

    P.S. for some reason I’ve only ever bought these since it was the first one I ever had and it worked good, I absolutely did not expect nor know how much was going on inside the reel. Makes me really feel good about sticking to these all these years

    This is a beautiful video for gearheads like myself. I just ordered 20+ vintage fishing reels to "revive", mostly GDR (German Democratic Republic) stuff from before the '90ies, and a Shakespeare 2152 to re-enter service as a serious catfish reel.
    It is really, really interesting to start understanding how spincast reels are designed and function, since soon I plan to deep-service an "Instant Fisherman" as well as a "Popeil Pocket Fisherman".
    Thank you very much for this highly interesting and entertaining video, regards from Germany!

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  3 роки тому

      There are several types of reel oil to use. I would recommend Lucas, Penn or Quantum. I would not recommend oils with solvents, like 3 In 1. The solvent will evaporate and leave a sticky residue. For grease, I started using Penn, which is really good stuff. I also Lucas Red and Tacky, which is great too. Some guys have used petroleum jelly, which will work, but will not work well on the gears since it will squish off very fast. but it might be good for shafts and drag washers.

The little nub should face the gear and fit into the little notch of the metal AR pawl. Let me know if you need some more help after watching those videos. Would Hoppe's gun cleaning solvent be too harsh for this project?

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  4 роки тому

      possibly. I use that on my firearms and it is made to dissolve powder residue. It may be way to harsh. Just stick with hot water and dish detergent. Or use a little WD-40.

    My anti-reversal pawl fell out of the rod while putting it back together , I have no idea how to seat it in the slot properly and my reel is spinning in reverse and forward , I cannot find a video showing how to put the anti-reversal pawl in for this exact reel, or any instructions online , can anyone guide me on how to fix this problem?

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  10 місяців тому

      The thumb button will not click when pressed. It engages the line brake for casting. Basically you press the thumb button to hold the line and cock the reel (the pick up pins retract) and then you cast and let go of the button to let the line fly out. Can you cast?

      I had a semi pro that owns a reputable fishing and boat shop tell me it's broken . My guess is since the reel is older than him and I neither of us knew.

      @@OutFishing13Matthew A friend recommended Dawn dishwashing liquid and a brush. Another friend insisted an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning reels in. I had bought one for cleaning gun parts in. I'm leaning toward Dawn Dishwashing Liquid and a hot water thorough rinsing but will probably try both. Any recommendations. Some of my shooting buddies don't like using WD40 for cleaning gun parts. Gun cleaning sprays and carburetor cleaners seem too harsh. Any & all recommendations would be appreciated. I've got several neglected reels to start on.
