I have the Rush 24 model. It seems that model has a lot of the features that you were wishing the 12 has. Drain holes, camel pack pocket with straw outlets. I’m sure you’ve seen the 24, but after seeing this video, I’m really glad I went with that model in lieu of the 12.

thanks for the video! I've seen another reviewer slide his bag from his back quickly to the front & he had super quick access to the CCW & pulled his 'fake' pistol for the review....it was pretty sweet, smooth, & very fast.....there is a buckle at the bottom of the straps that cane be undone, he quickly undid the buckle...turning into a hybrid-swing, then swung the entire bag to his frontside where it was now horizontal & he had his pistol out super fast! I was like: whoa

I used the rush 12 in double-tap for 10 years. I attached a med kit and H20 pouch. I lived out of that pack on the road. I didn't need a carry on for everyday life. I got it all in the 12. I just retired it and got the 2.0 in ranger green. Now, originally, I got double tap because at that time I thought it looked less combative. But now, it looks more combative than the ranger green. O.D., Khaki, tan packs have flooded the streets. Its normal to see those types of packs used by anyone. I switched out most of my pouches for ranger green. I like the H20 pouch handy for water, and it doubles as utility pouch. I what I really like about the 2.0 . is the concealment pocket. My tablet fits right in there. I could live without the extra padding for the laptop, but hardly a deal breaker. I had a lot of the RUSH and MOAB packs (RUSH -12 , MOAB 10, MOAB-6, All Hazards Nitro). I also had Maxpedition packs as well. The 12 and Moab 6 have served me well. I take the 12 with me everywhere.

I found my first gen. RUSH12 at a thrift store about three years ago and I was very happy. I do not use it for every day carry for all of the reasons you express here especially because there is one lone sinch pouch inside (besides the two zipper compartments on the clamshell. It does have the drain holes which 5.11 seemed to have pulled for this second gen. which is unfortunate. However, it has become my favorite carry on bag when traveling. I usually travel alone, and a bag like this keeps folk at a distance. Not only that; I travel carry-on only, so I can fit a lot of other gear in here while calling it my personal item and leave plenty of room in my small roller for any thing I pick up along my travels; or if I'm going some place warm, my coat will fit nicely. I found this video while searching for reviews on 5.11 luggage because I was interested in matching it up. Thanks for the thoughtful review.

I don't think a bag can be considered too tactical today. many non military people are buying, and using these things. The big rip off here is this gray man stuff. They are selling you things that have less function. A bag is a bag. You can carry a weapon in anything. I'll stick with the tactical stuff. At the least I'll be able to hook extra shit to my bag if the need arises.

I had the original 5.11 Rush 12 but I gave that to my brother and he uses it for hunting.
To be honest, while there are some things I like about this 2.0 and having had the original Rush 12, a lot of the complaints you voiced such as the CCW pocket being mostly useless and the lack of drain holes leave me disappointed. The original seemed fine and the drain holes were something I appreciated with the bag. While this bag leaves some features from the original I like I feel like this bag is like a sequel to a movie or game that we did not need and leaves fans disappointed.
While I don't regret giving my brother my old Rush 12, I was thinking of getting a new one. I got the original 5.11 Rush 12 for $100 on Amazon. 5.11 is now charging the original for $140 but they have their 2.0 for $80 on sale at the moment. I'm on a bit of a budget. Despite the flaws would the 2.0 be worth the $80?
EDIT: I just finished the video. You covered the price and said it may be worth the price and LA Gear has it lower. Sorry. I should have finished before commenting.

It’s just not why I bought it. The CCW pocket is nice but not useful to me as I don’t carry a firearm (yet) but it’s a nice stash pocket!

Good Review does a RED TEAM review, push back for me. One great benefit of the discussion was I did not know the chest strap was adjustable. It came out of the box too high for me. I moved it down to the bottom, last strap and its perfect. THANKS! I love this bag, fantastic quality in my view. I also have a Rush 72 for about 3 years. I bought the Rush 12 because I am working 100% remote and so no longer need to carry to work things like water and coffee and lunch. So it was too big for around the house and day trips in the car shopping, shorter trail hiking about 3- 5 miles. As for push back on pockets I really dont have things falling out. Its very orderly. Less pockets then the 72 but I consolidated when downgrading to 12 and everything is in place. I also have an external bottle holder by OneTigris amd its great. Also I have a backpack cover by Gregory in case there is a downpour. I would never expect the bag to defend against a torrent rainfall but would expect it to defend against lit drizzle. For longer trips like a vacation I will go with my RUSH 72. QUESTION: There are 2 BIG belt Buck at the bottom of the bag where your back goes against. I am assuming it for a hip strap like the one on the Rush 72. None came with the bag so what would I buy to add the the hip level load support?

I have never been that moved by 5.11 bags. Seems to me they refine features nobody really wants and spends less effort on features people really want. That's why I bought a First Tactical (evil villain laugh for those that know the story) Half Day Specialist Pack. It has useful features that I need in a bag. I'm not a big fan of laser cut MOLLE because if you don't get it just right around curves or corners it puckers out. Good luck to the winner. Thanks for sharing, you Mighty Awesome Devil Dog. ERRAH!

I think the "tactical" bags may actually have too much molle and usually the only outside compartment that is really useful is a water bottle pouch so basically you are adding more weight for nothing. Sure it's customizable but you don't really need 100 different places to put a pouch lol

Truth on the laptop sleeve. It looks like if you had sunglasses in it would be even more difficult to remove a laptop.
I think the solution would to either have a zipper to split that compartment open or to have the sleeve not so high up...
Other than that, the admin pouch needs longer pen holders but it fits a green weenie book well.

Sadly I walk straight into this one myself, I had used the original Rush 12 for about 5 years everyday and it still looks like new. I saw the concealed carry addition and thought it was ideal not to carry a pistol (I live in the UK) but to carry a tactical torch and a CAT-T. What I didn't appreciate was all the compromises that had been made and 2 really poor design decisions. Straight away the omission of the radio antenna ports stood out. Then no "Rhino Skin" anti slip patches on the back and only one keeper in the admin panel. As you say the drain holes have gone.
Now for the bag design. The internal laptop pouch is at the back of the bag meaning if its fully packed you can't get to your laptop. Not an issues I thought as I normally keep my laptop in the water bladder sleeve anyway. What I didn't realise was how much I relied on the the old style shock corded pocket to stop the load shifting.
My biggest disappointment has been the concealed carry pocket as when the bag is full removing anything quickly from it without losing 3 layers of skin or snagging the item even with a deployment pouch is almost impossible.
It just feels like change for change sake and cheaper. I went back to V1 and have given the new one to my son for Uni, while I hunt for something better.

If a bag is full, it’s gonna be hard to get anything bulky like a lap top out without unpacking or rummaging slightly, this is the nature of a bag?

    • @crouchingtadpole5158
      @crouchingtadpole5158 2 роки тому

@@scimatarpictures Not at all, with a well designed bag access should have been considered from the outset. I ended up with a Karrimor SF MODI 15. This has a contoured zip that allows access to the laptop sleeve even when packed to the gunwales. It also allows direct access to a PALS field directly above the sleeve, perfect for a CAT T without interfering with laptop extraction. Is it perfect? No. But its never going to be unless I make it myself or modify the the minor annoyances.

Good content. Some other possibilities for you might be the AMP10 or amp12. Blackhawk Stax, or Stingray EDC. I'm partial to the amp series because of the gear sets. I like the Blackhawks because they both have the laser cut molle, low profile doesn't look tactical and the water bottles fit in the side zipper pouches fine

the Rush12 i have must be the 1.0 version. i like it a lot, but its not my everyday carry either. i sometimes carry it as a get home bag when i make short out of town trips, but usually i keep it filled with some day hiking stuff. even then its not my regular hiking bag. i did put a couple water bottle holders on the side. now it looks like a tactical rocket pack.

@@MarineX The Marine Corps was good about "one size fits all". It is why they train us to improvise, adapt and overcome. I want to reduce the improvising as much as possible in my old age. The bags come with the molle compatible straps, I actually like them. I use one of the straps on my moab 6 to hold a hat, small hoodie or maybe my water shoes. Nice little straps to attach small things. If I use them to attach my rush 12 and my moab 6, it needs all four straps, which is a bit much, but works well. For reference, I have had my bag for 7-8 years now and still love them.

If you want to know why they do that, just think. Who are they marketing to? Someone who genuinely thinks about the LOOK of a bag, or the fact it’s a tactical bag in general. They don’t care about your opinion they just want your money. So long as people are dumb enough to sell it they’ll keep doing it.
