    I use Lo-Chlor Pool Algicide in my above ground pool. Before this product I had to change the water every few days. Now I got it, it never got green since and it's still clear. I also over maintain it by cleaning the filter every morning, not necessary, but I choose to. It is recommended you change the filter ever 2 weeks but I just remove it clean it with water and laundry detergent and put it back. Change the filter when it's not possible to clean anymore

    Our pool had mustard algae that doesn't wipe off. Tried everything. Some parts bottom are like new,the water is crystal clear the brown patchy stain doesn't wipe off.

    • @tweetiebird
      @tweetiebird 2 роки тому +1

      the patchy stain is because it penetrate the pool surface I'm guessing it's a concrete pool. I found a tool on Amazon that I can connect to my bursh pole and insert a Di Clor tablet and rub the stain with and with a little effort it gradually gets lighter and lighter and may even disappear.

    • @tweetiebird
      @tweetiebird 2 роки тому

      Brown stain is from black algae that gets into the concrete. An acid wash if really bad will help but it removes some of your plaster layer so you have to know it that's a wise idea or not, just make sure they pressure wash it until the spots are gone because companies that do acid washes try to get as many in during the cool season and so they hire guys and they want to get in and out and don't want to spend the time to get rid of the stains. I also found buying a dichlor tablet and get one of the holders you can attach to a pole, then rub it on the stains over time will lighten and remove them.

  • @Ransome2501
    @Ransome2501 3 роки тому +2

    so the algae just disappears? It doesn't settle to the bottom? If the filter could clear the whole pool in 12 hours why wouldn't it trap the algae before you treated it. Just asking. If my pool turns green, i use a algaecide then a bottle of drop out which settles everything to the bottom and leaves the water crystal clear. then I vacuum to waste. I'll have to look into this method because applying a bottle that kills and makes algae just disappear is amazing

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  3 роки тому +1

      It doesn't make it disappear, it kills it. The problem with just relying on the filter to clear the water without killing the algae is you'll never get rid of it. The larger live particles of algae will get trapped in the filter, but algae on surfaces and particles too small to get caught in the filter will continue to reproduce in your water.

    • @tweetiebird

      You need to give good brushing to expose algae spores, super chlorinate (yellow algae shock 3x the regular amount as in 1 gal chlorine vs 3 gals or 3 bags of shock which will add a lot of hard water calcium to the water so not recommended or buy Yellow Out treatment) wait until FC is under 5 ppm and then follow with algaecide and run circulation pump 24 hrs. Chlorine kills algae too.

      Brown stuff settling on the bottom can be iron bacteria. You need to have your water tested for iron bacteria and coliform bacteria. Iron bacteria settles at the bottom and appears to be slimy. If its from well water you used for the pool, then most likely its iron bacteria. Pool chlorine takes care of it. (Sodium hypochlorite)

    Before you add algicide, you have to balance your pool chemicals and have FC under 5 ppm. This is a hazzardess chemical and requires special handling and protective gear. It has copper in it and can stain your pool too so surprised this video makes it appears just pour and walk away. You may kill algae but blue water does not mean your problem is over. You need to also "super" shock your pool (quantity depends on type of algae) but not at the same time with the algaecide. You probably need to do more than one treatment too, bushing again and again especially in those corners, stairs and shaded areas. it's recommended to clean the filters afterward to. Be sure to throw in your pool bushes/nets what ever used in the pool while there was algae, also sanatize pool toys and swim suits.. After you have done all this, you will make sure you don't let your chlorine go to nothing battling contaminants. Also check your CYA ppm because when chlorine is depleted, bacteria will consume CYA next thing you are going through a ton of chlorine and back where you started again.. Check your phosphates too, I get mine from plants in the yard and things the wind sends my way, I bought a phosphate treatment to prevent algea by eliminating the food source. Algiside doesn't prevent algae, it just kills it once it has already set up house in the pool. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

    • @GuitarsAndSynths
      @GuitarsAndSynths 2 роки тому +1

      true but issue with adding the phosphate remover is that it will constantly clog your pool filter! I don't know about you but removing the massive sized pool filters to clean is a royal pain in the ass! I do it twice a year and hate that part of pool maintenance. So unless you want to be doing that shit every fricking day go for it!

    • @tweetiebird
      @tweetiebird 2 роки тому +1

      @@GuitarsAndSynths I agree, I tried the phosphate treatment which hasn't done much good still high and the cost is high too. I'm trying the weekly treatment of algaecide 60 (no copper or cloudynessl) now along with weekly shocking (liquid chlorine 1 gal per 10,000 gal which doesn't add calcium hardness) in high heat season in Arizona, but it says the same thing about afterwards cleaning filters or vacuuming the dead algae too but I have big filter system. Trial and error to find what works for you.

    I absolutely hate using algaecide. Hate it! I hate swimming in the pool with it. I can smell it and it feels toxic because it is and my pump hates it has to work so hard and occasionally I see foam in the pool. Turns hair green. Just monitor your ph and keep it balanced. This is so so important, the most important thing you can do for your pool. Then use chlorine tabs and shock once a week. I've learned so much over the years of having a pool out of necessity. I'm battling yellow/green algae after it rained for two weeks! Pool store tried to sell me Phosphate killer, which makes no sense to me at all and it's 40 bucks a bottle! If you have pests in the garden you don't remove their food aka the garden you treat the pests! That is what treating pool for phosphates is doing, removing the algae food source. The wind, rain, fertilizer runoff, city water etc...ALL put phosphates back in the water. Instead, I am dropping the ph a little in order to make my chlorine shock more effective (Yes chlorine is much more effective 97% effective at say 6.0 whereas it's only 9% effective where mine is right now in the 8.0 range--hence the green pool even despite having a ton of chlorine in the pool. So droppping the ph will help that chlorine to work and then I will shock the crap out of it and brush, brush, brush and then I will test again and see where ph is and balance it again. I may add a little clarifier to help clump particle die off together so my sand filter can filter it better (if I have cloudiness) It's a hassle for sure but I don't like swimming with anything in the water that ends with -cide haha Been there done that, won't do it again. You don't need algaecide, just good ph and chlorine and a pool brush and testing kit.

      @@DoItYourselfDad Alkalinity is important too. IF it's to high it will keep dragging the PH up high and when PH is high, chlorine is less efficient at sanitizing. You see 80-120ppm TA is good, more like under100 ppm which requires a lot of acid and irrigation to accomplsih for me but it I can stop the PH bounce and daily acid treatments, it's worth it. You need the balance all things (actually other things like calcium, CYA, proper chlorine level (7.5 percent of CYA ppm), outside tempature and hours of filtering (circulation) all have an impact. Also tap water has to do with it too, if your water is hard and high in PH you have to be aware of that too. Summer heat is great conditions for algae growth.
