A few things... 1) Man, you seriously do THE BEST tobacco reviews out of anyone on UA-cam. Really man, keep it up! I just ordered some Elizabethian mixture based upon your reviews. 2) What is with the solid background now? Pipe smoking, even for a review, should always be casual. The solid colored background gives your more recent reviews a slight "evening news" feel. Your apartment seems interesting enough. 3) I think it would be quite funny for you to do a review of Captain Black, Prince Albert or some other goopy, low grade drug store cavendish and yet give it every bit as much thought and attention to detail, including the pompous accent, as you do for the high-quality tinned tobaccos.
+Cheeseybacun - I appreciate the positive feedback! Pro tip: If there is a backdrop behind me, I might NOT be in my apartment. I've thought of reviewing some of those drug-store blends, but then I'd have to actually smoke them! We'll see though. Some of them actually aren't all that terrible.
+Stuff&Things Yes indeed, not all of them are super bad, but many, unfortunately. Perhaps the apple cavendish (John Middleton?) that you described as smoking when you first turned 18? Tis' a shame it is only available in a pouch, which would look most hilarious and out of place in comparison to various tins on display in your other reviews.
Hands down, no one even gets close to your reviews. When your done there's not many questions left to answer, very helpful in my purchases. Please do a review with your one favorite tobacco from each category ( yes, one aromatic also). It would be much appreciated by your adoring fans.
That fine shag is the way I like to prepare it, as well. To me, it brings out the most from the blend. That's not to say that there's anything wrong with cube-cutting it, or cutting it to a coarse ribbon, but the fine shag works best for me. Great reviews! A friend suggested I check out your channel. I like your approach!
Is anything really a coincidence? ;) A friend of mine told me about your channel because he knew I'd like what you had to say about my Chelsea Morning and Quiet Nights. I did. And others. I like your approach. Cheers! -glp
Your accent while doing your deeper "voice over" voice while reading the tin description was going back and forth from a deep voiced old man to an almost Sean Connery James Bond, lol! It was very amusing. I dig your reviews and the way you describe the flavors is very dead on for me personally,we must have similar palates, idk, please keep doing reviews on stuff and things because I thoroughly enjoy them! Stay healthy, stay happy, stay you!
Glad I watched this one, because I ended up _loving_ this blend! I got quite a few laughs out of this one too. It's an awesome full belly blend. Loving plugs & cakes as much as I do, Jackknife is yet another Pease recipe that's made its way into my rotation. I know this vid is a couple years old, but hardly outdated and very well-done! 👍
Like Bradley I have a high N tolerance; cigars, Gawith twists, Dark Birds eye, Irish flake - none of these seem to affect me. I picked up a sample of Jack Knife plug at The Briar Shoppe during a visit to Houston Texas (thanks Ross! definitely check out this B&M if you happen to visit Houston). Jack-Knife plug is the only blend I have tried that "put me out" so to speak; I found the flavor to be very, very forward. Enjoyable, but heavy; the 'steak sauce' smell comes through in the smoke. It is not for the faint of heart and I enjoy it sparingly. One tin goes a long way.
I am smoking this right now cellared for one year. And the bbq a1 sauce have settled a lot. This is a good one before going to sleep or if you need good nicotine hit. If I knew the taste would be a lot better after a while I would have purchased a lot more
This was the first video of yours that I saw Brad, So it must have been some time in the weeks or months after this was uploaded, I remember it clearly, I'd been reading a book in which a character mentioned plug tobacco which led me here. So there we go, 7 to 8 years depending on exactly when you put this up.
Bradley, Great review. Your theatrical accents are so very fitting and entertaining. The "Jacknife Plug" subsitute sounds quite nice. ..not too sure of its smokability. Will have to give this here Plug a try soon. Take care, Later.
I smoked this blend a few years ago. I though it was wonderfull the first week. But I let it sit in a plastic bag. A few days after, I went back to my bag to find the plug covered in green fuzz. It had grown mold . I first though of smoking it anyway... you know expecting a shroom-like trip but I decided to chuck it away. I don't know what happened but I'm still a bit scared to reorder it ... I still loved the taste.
+Haki Mann - That is very odd. Pretty much every pipe tobacco is treated with anti-fungals, so I'm not sure what happened there. I've never had that problem with this blend though.
Stuff&Things It's actually a really fair Old New England Yankee accent you did there. A little work and you'd pass for a native. Broaden one or two ahrs, ayuh...and you'd have'er.
Nice concise tobacco review there, old boy. OT - Ahh - Bradley, I think I hit jackpot - I just tried an oz of Cornell & Diel Bayou Night - it's a medium/full Virginia with Perique and it seemed just perfect. It's described as a "Scottish type blend of Latakia, Perique, Virginias, Turkish, and Burleys that boasts a heavier Perique component than normally found in a classic Scottish blend." When I opened the bag and took a deep whiff it stunk - almost a tangy, cheesy smell (like the grandfather's boot smell you gave on the GL Pease) and I thought "Oh Christ, what have I bought...) But on smoking it burnt nice and smooth and then the perique really came through. A little more rough cut than Nightcap and without the Latakia but that's ok . I urge you to try it if you haven't already. I smoked it in my new Savinelli 'Hercules EX' so no previous after smells to mix it up. I even found the perfect aperitif to go with it - Joaquin wild Cherry Brandy mixed with 50% Joaquin Ginger Brandy to take away the sweetness. I know this isn't the perfect environment to smoke these blends with the air conditioner running full, but it certainly bodes well for those autumn evenings to come. PS. I like the beard you have coming in - people are right, it does suit you....
I just popped a can while watching your video to compare, and i really enjoyed it. Coming from heavy cased tobacco blend aromatic smokes, this is a nice change of pace. Pair's well with a long island Ice tea!
As always great review. Got a tin sitting in my cellar just waiting for the right time. Maybe this Christmas when I hit my one year anniversary of pipe smoking. But I might need some smelling sauce. Haha!
yet another great review looking forward to getting my hands on some of this stuff; However that intro hook story has me wondering what crazy thing would have to happen to end up with a broken arm and Hep-C.
I agree with all the positive comments regarding your videos. Bravo. I enjoy the graphic denoting the specific data you overlay on the video as you speak. Do you have this data all in one place so that we can download/print this data for use day to day without having to scroll through each video (albeit a fun task)? Thanks. Dante
I like Dark Fired Kentucky....A lot ! HH Mac Barren Old Fired is in my regular rotation. This sh*t flat out kicked my ass. Next time I'll be ready with something smooth with alcohol.......
I finally tried a tin of this wonderful blend. It has an interesting savory flavor with a very small bit of sweetness, almost like putting a bit of sugar on some bbqued meat. It smokes really cool too. I know you said more for a treat due to the flavor but tongue bite-wise you can have bowl after bowl. I still like Irish Flake more for this genre of dark fired burley blends, but that's just because I prefer more sweetness.
Hi ya. Thank you again for this lovely review.Have you tried MacB's HH Bold Kentucky,it should be similar blend.I haven't tried that yet.The order is on it's way, HH Old Dark Fired was nice acquaintance,
Solid. I've been on the fence about this one because of how people talk about the nic hit. I'll get around to it. I'm on a Solani #656 kick though. Good god that is some good tobacco.
Interesting review! Only experience with Dark Fired Kentucky is as a component of Rattrays Hal O' the Wind. Any recommendations for Dark Fired starter blends? Just purchased Gaslight and really enjoy it, this seems to be a different animal though! Very informative though. Cheers!
***** - Directly into the camera. I'm still using the Rhode Smartlav+, which is balanced for a smartphone jack, so when I plug directly into the camera I have to use an adapter.
Hello Bradley, very nice tobacco review (as usual)! How does compare G.L.Pease Jacknife Plug vs. Peterson Irish Flake? PS: I you like a bold and stout smoke, I suggest you to try Samuel Gawith Brown n.4...is truly delicious (especially in a meerschaum pipe)!
Did you notice that the Kentucky layers bookend the plug? The darker bands on the top and bottom are Kentucky, with the thick band of Virginia in the middle. Do you think that will affect how it ages, and especially how the components “marry” (or not) over time? Love to know your thoughts! Thanks!
Hi Bradley, just noticed you use the pipe zippo instead of the Peterson "Old Boy" lighter you normally have. How happy are you with the Zippo? Do you have to draw much stronger to get the flame to the tobacco? Any impact from using a gasoline lighter rather than butane on the taste of the tobaccos? Love the "blend your own"-recipe btw...
schlagi1 - I usually use the Zippo when I'm outdoors because of its wind resistance, but it just happened to be near when I did the video. I like it. You DO have to work a little harder drawing it in as the flame is not as hot, and if you over-fill it, you COULD get some fluid in your pipe if you're not careful. Other than that, it works quite well.
Stuff&Things Thanks Bradley, I'm seriously thinking about buying the Zippo, exactly for having a reliable lighter when being out and about. The advice on not overfilling is very helpful, and I take it from your comment that you do not confirm the "common wisdom" that using a gasoline lighter does as such affect the taste? Best, Marc
I love soft-flame butane lighters for pipes, but outdoors, a Zippo really comes in handy. And, yes, I've found that as long as you're not overfilling the Zippo to the point that fluid is actually dripping into your pipe bowl, the taste is not an issue.
So, we have a cameo appearance by Walter Brennan doing the tin description... nice touch (good impression). However, I wonder how many of your viewers even remember him? For those that don't, do a UA-cam search and see if you agree.
3.14159265'd Piper - I had to do a UA-cam search myself, as I had no idea who you were talking about! What do you know? I DID sound like him. Entirely unintentional.
My Friend hands down for me your reviews on tobacco are the best.So well done.when you change you voice to read the tin i howl Next time try a little Walter Brennan Ha keep then coming my friend i am newbie and your video save me a lot of money by watching and trusting your reviews.question why dont all the large compainies sell like very small sample bags of all their tobaccos instead of buying a two ounce tin and you dont like it thank you??
+Stuff&Thing - Bradley, that was a great review. Do you dedicate your dedicate your pipes or is it whatever pipe you feel like smoking? Just curious. Have a great weekend.
Honestly, I love the elaborate, atmospheric, and kind of pretentious tin descriptions. However, I want some cranky old blender to make a tobacco with a tin description much like this: "It's a Virginia from somewhere in North Carolina, I think. Vintage? Hell if I know. Who cares? It's a golden Virginia, what the Hell else do you expect?" I'd buy it.
Really enjoying you vids. I just started smoking a pipe over a month ago ... this is helping me sort through what I want to try. I'm a huge fan of English blends, although I do like an aromatic now and again. Nightcap is my favorite. It was the first English I tried and I loved it. Which I think makes me odd. I also love HP Sauce, so I may have to try the JackKnife Plug.
I also really enjoy My Mixture 965, definitely more mild, love it with a cup of pinion coffee in the morning. Dunhill totally nails the ribbon cut, which is something I appreciate.
I thought I was the only one who had the broken arm and Hep from this. Man, makes me glad I am not alone. Got a tin in the cabinet, but a little nervous about the cut. I have a few traditional plugs that I am nervous about just because I have finally gotten to a point where I can actually handle stuffing and smoking.
Colin Kelly - This plug is actually pretty loose, so you'll be fine. Rub it out like I did, and it will behave pretty much like a ribbon. European plugs are usually WAY denser.
addison davis - Case does make blades like that. If it has a "CV" blade, it means it isn't stainless. Here's one of my very first reviews: ua-cam.com/video/L1naVDpzAEQ/v-deo.html
Have you reviewed plug cut tobaccos before or is Jackknife the first one? If so could you please point me to the others I've never tried this cut before. Do you prefer it over the almighty ribbon?
Looking for an American made pocket knife that developed patina on the blade , does case have a pocket knife that does that? I'm tired or stainless steel! Haha
Southerngentleman Piper His knife is made by Great Eastern Cutlery. 1095 carbon steel blades. I'm not sure which shape number that one is...they make a lot! Check out CollectorKnivesdotnet or KnivesShipFreedotcom.
In my opinion, G.L. Pease is making some of the best tobaccos on the market. This one might be a little strong for me yet. How do you think it would age?
How do I write or ask you any tobaccI related question's if other than any subject that you are on a current your video? I'll still watch. Making comment's on whatever subject I come across of your's. Pipe on Air Bradley! 😎✌👍
@stuff&things great review! When you talk about nicotine buzz, I have never experienced it with pipe tobacco, is it because I only smoke and keep the smoke strictly in my mouth not throat? Not that I want a nicotine buzz haha that's why I smoke pipe :D
snitchunter - I only allow the smoke into my mouth as well (and sometimes my nose). Nicotine is easily absorbed in the mouth. Maybe you're just not smoking the realyl strong blends, OR you're just naturally resistant to it.
+stuff&things I've been smoking some of the dunhill nightcap the Denmark tin, don't feel anything at all, but when I smoke hookah I feel sometimes in going to pass out from the amount of nicotine!! Haha not a nice feeling
hi, i'm japanese pipe smoker. i wanna try this tobacco. A week ago, it is sold out when i access to the internet shop of japan. thanks for nice reviews. and sorry for my not good english. do you know momoyama? it is japanese pipe tobacco made by macbaren tobacco company. if you have chance, try it. sweet tobacco.
+kirin3214 - I'm very happy to have a Japanese viewer! Don't worry about your English. It is quite easy to understand. I haven't tried the tobacco you mentioned, but I will definitely look into it.
+- J. - It's always subjective, but this blend is up there. You also might want to check out Peterson "Irish Flake." Dunhill "Elizabethan Mixture" is pretty strong as well.
Careful with this blend, lads, it's not for the faint of heart. Once I went on to try a bowl in my car and it got totaled-even though I was parked in my garage the whole time! . . . and I woke up in the hospital with a broken arm and hepatitis C, naturally. ( o.o)
This blend sounds similar to C&D Five O'clock Shadow, except C&D leads you to believe it has a hint of Kentucky when in fact it is a hint of Virginia if anything lol
+Stuff&Things It's pretty good. I think it's odd though; you really taste the Virginias each time when lighting, and then it mellows out to a smooth, strong Kentucky flavor. Perique pops in every once and a while. I think it would be something you would enjoy. The crumble cake is fun to pack, and it's pretty tolerant to heat as well.
hey, if you're into smoky, bitter, somewhat savory (like smoked and honey cured bacon) delightful stuff, i suggest you try a nice single malt scotch from islay.
Your vignette on what non-tobacco ingredients might reproduce the character of this tobacco cracked me up. I literally LOL'd.
+John Brink - It seemed apt at the time. Thanks for watching!
Less than a minute in and he drops the "broken arm and hepatitis C". Liked.
”Woke up in the emergency room with a broken arm and Hepatitis C” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA 😂
"Smoked a bowl once, woke up in the emergency room with a broken arm and Hepatitis C" loved that ;) Great reviews, very polished; keep it up!
+Matt Wall - Thank you!
=)

Yes indeed, not all of them are super bad, but many, unfortunately. Perhaps the apple cavendish (John Middleton?) that you described as smoking when you first turned 18? Tis' a shame it is only available in a pouch, which would look most hilarious and out of place in comparison to various tins on display in your other reviews.
It was a house blend, so I doubt I would be able to locate it years later. It was NOT good.
Sometimes for me, even though I enjoy more premium tobacco blends, Prince Albert hits the spot
Hands down, no one even gets close to your reviews. When your done there's not many questions left to answer, very helpful in my purchases. Please do a review with your one favorite tobacco from each category ( yes, one aromatic also). It would be much appreciated by your adoring fans.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for watching! Is your name more than just a coincidence?
Is anything really a coincidence? ;) A friend of mine told me about your channel because he knew I'd like what you had to say about my Chelsea Morning and Quiet Nights. I did. And others. I like your approach. Cheers! -glp
Nice! I just reviewed Stratford recently as well. Good stuff.
Is anything really a coincidence? Thanks for all of your contributions! How might a fan / collector get you to sign a few tins?
Your accent while doing your deeper "voice over" voice while reading the tin description was going back and forth from a deep voiced old man to an almost Sean Connery James Bond, lol! It was very amusing. I dig your reviews and the way you describe the flavors is very dead on for me personally,we must have similar palates, idk, please keep doing reviews on stuff and things because I thoroughly enjoy them! I just watched this. When you said, "I woke up in the hospital with a broken arm and hepatitis C", I had to pause the video I was laughing so much.
Sounds wonderful! Definitely will be on my next order, thanks for the review.
+Jameson Johnson - My pleasure! Thanks for watching.

great review as always Bradley. I hope your week has been going great. your channel is on my top 5 favorite keep up the great work.
lion jr - Glad to hear it! I appreciate you watching and commenting.
Excellent, excellent review Bradley. Congrats. I liked it so much. Awesome. Thanks a lot.
Great review! I loved the taste description towards the end. I propose that we call Virginia/Kentucky blends .....VirTuckens
Bradley, PLEASE you must do a revisited of this stuff, I'm interested in knowing what you still think of Jack Knife Plug!
Shopping for tobacco and just heard you slide into character. "Woke up with a broken arm and hepatitis C" . Dude, you crack me up.
I am smoking this right now cellared for one year. And the bbq a1 sauce have settled a lot. This is a good one before going to sleep or if you need good nicotine hit. If I knew the taste would be a lot better after a while I would have purchased a lot more

+semajtrebor - My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
When I first tried this blend I was not a fan. upon revisiting recently, I've become hooked
It's just savory and mouthwatering goodness.. I just got an 8oz block of the stuff
This was the first video of yours that I saw Brad, So it must have been some time in the weeks or months after this was uploaded, I remember it clearly, I'd been reading a book in which a character mentioned plug tobacco which led me here. Love this blend. Great review!
I smoked this blend a few years ago. I though it was wonderfull the first week. But I let it sit in a plastic bag. A few days after, I went back to my bag to find the plug covered in green fuzz. must have been a bad batch or my bag was already wet or something. this tobacco is still really good. I really like your reviews, keep it up!
Why would you put fine tobacco in a plastic bag?
Also, plastic bags do not seal like a jar. Did you reuse an old bag you had a sammich in there ? 🥲
Who were you conjuring up when you read the tin description? I imagined an old Mark Twain. Loved it.
Richard Crist - That's just my standard "folksy old man" voice! Someone else said it sounded like Walter Brennan, but I didn't know the reference.
Stuff&Things It's actually a really fair Old New England Yankee accent you did there. A little work and you'd pass for a native. Broaden one or two ahrs, ayuh...and you'd have'er.
Ha! I guess I'll have to practice.

yet another great review looking forward to getting my hands on some of this stuff; However that intro hook story has me wondering what crazy thing would have to happen to end up with a broken arm and Hep-C.

I was gonna get it, till you gave me the leather boot description. Lol Great review as always!

However, I want some cranky old blender to make a tobacco with a tin description much like this: "It's a Virginia from somewhere in North Carolina, I think. Vintage? Hell if I know. Who cares? It's a golden Virginia, what the Hell else do you expect?" I'd buy it.
Richard Apsley - Ha! I agree. I can do a pretty good cranky old man voice as well.
+Amy Mc - I think Nightcap is a great English blend to start out with! Its potency is a bit overblown.
I also really enjoy My Mixture 965, definitely more mild, love it with a cup of pinion coffee in the morning. Dunhill totally nails the ribbon cut, which is something I appreciate.
They certainly do! It's a pleasure to pack and smoke.
LOL love the list starting from old leather boot! 🤣
your lucky you can get it easy over there. I'm in the UK. And so far only found one place at the cost of £25. for 2oz. !!!
Martin Griffin - Try 4noggins.com. I hear they're pretty good about shipping to the UK.
What knife is that? Very pretty
How does it compare to dunhill night cap ?
addison davis - Case does make blades like that. If it has a "CV" blade, it means it isn't stainless. Here's one of my very first reviews: ua-cam.com/video/L1naVDpzAEQ/v-deo.html
Thanks soooo much !
Have you reviewed plug cut tobaccos before or is Jackknife the first one? If so could you please point me to the others I've never tried this cut before. Do you prefer it over the almighty ribbon?
Justin Wilson - I think JackKnife IS the first plug I have reviewed. I still prefer a ribbon cut in general, but plugs have their charms.
Strong incent taste, what type of tobacco is that flavor?
Looking for an American made pocket knife that developed patina on the blade , does case have a pocket knife that does that? I'm tired or stainless steel! Haha
Southerngentleman Piper His knife is made by Great Eastern Cutlery. 1095 carbon steel blades. I'm not sure which shape number that one is...they make a lot! Check out CollectorKnivesdotnet or KnivesShipFreedotcom.
In my opinion, G.L. Pease is making some of the best tobaccos on the market. This one might be a little strong for me yet. How do you think it would age?
***** - I think it would do pretty well because of the red and flue-cured Virginias.
Sounds like it's similar to Rattray's Stirling Flake, that smelt like star anise and beef bouillon.
Salty Tiger - No anise smell or flavor, but it definitely has a bit of bouillon.
What brand knife? Nice.....
It's a Great Eastern Cutlery knife.
This blend reminds me of sipping on warm milk
As a former cigarette smoker, what pipe tobacco blend have you found to have the highest nicotine content?
Ps: I'm gonna try some plug + cake. I've seen a guy press his own cake. Would you?
This blend sounds similar to C&D Five O'clock Shadow, except C&D leads you to believe it has a hint of Kentucky when in fact it is a hint of Virginia if anything lol
Trevor the Recluse - I've been meaning to try that.
Thanks for watching, man!
Well, I will definitely check it out.
Its Hep B that you get from Jackknife, Hep C you get from Nightcap.
lunchie83 - Ah. Thanks for clearing that up!
What's Hep A then?
Back when they actually did plugs. Anymore they're more like a cake. All loose. Good review.
Do you ever smoke cigars?
Whiskey River - Every once in a great while. I much prefer the pipe though.
+Stuff&Things I also prefer the pipe over cigars too. Thanks for the reply!
Damn.... that reputation (haha)!
If you don't have much experience it may knock you on your ass - is true of everything in this world. :)
YOU BE CAREFUL THAT JACK KNIFE PLUG SON YA HEAR
kinda sounds like a single malt scotch whisky from islay...
+kenken8765 - I wouldn't know, but it sounds appetizing!
hey, if you're into smoky, bitter, somewhat savory (like smoked and honey cured bacon) delightful stuff, i suggest you try a nice single malt scotch from islay.
Will do!
Lights with zippo, proceeds to creosote taste.
Hmmmm.
you look like Peterson 3 p but in American style
Why do you keep doing a bad Sean Connery impression
+Bryan Olson - That wasn't a Sean Connery impression. If I WERE doing Sean Connery, you'd know it!
I just row taste shit
