    The Lakeland flavoring style goes back to scented snuff manufacture, which the Gawith's both used to produce.

    Picking some up from my local b&m this weekend! As always, you're a good sport to review a blend you're probably not going to like. (I'm more scared of the Perique content than the Lakeland stuff.) Thanks for the review!

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  7 років тому

      The Perique is pretty mild in this one. Thanks for watching!

      Update: (not that you asked!) Smoking my first bowl. Maybe my favorite Peace blend. Must be immune to Lakeland cause I'm not picking it up in the smoke. But boy does it need drying time! Let sit out for 15 minutes but still needs lots of re-lights! A real Gawith wet smoker!

    I was put off due to the lakeland essence as well. I jarred the tin for 2 years and now it’s fantastic. The lakelend whisps in and out and is now subdued and very nice. Same with the cocoa topping.

    I had forgotten about the Lakeland Essence and I had never had any Lakeland tobaccos before. While smoking my first bowl I actually thought something was wrong, like it had gotten moldy in the tin. Then I remembered the Lakeland thing, got through it and was able to enjoy the mild, creamy and quite sweet blend. Only got the slightest perique peppery note.

    heyyy Bradley great review I have some Lakeland blend of Chocolate Flake and it's in my celler I haven't tried it yet but I got it because of a review that said it was very good with this I'm very interested in the Coco flavor not so much of the soapy and flower notes I'm going to try it and if I don't like it hopefully someone will make a trade with me thanks so much for sharing Bradley I was hoping that you would be a big fan of this blend happy puffs My friend ☺☺☺☺☺👍👍👍👍 best regards Peter.

    I'm in total agreement with you on this tobacco. I felt like I was lighting a pipe full of potpourri. But that said, the 2nd and 3rd bowl of it was a little better than my 1st impression. Not a go to smoke for me. I bought two tins of it and will keep one in the cellar for a few years and see what it is like then. The tin that I opened... I will revisit it on occasions and see if it gets any better. LOL My taste does vary with the times of the year, who knows. Blessings to you, another honest evaluation. Thanks.

    I just had an experience with lakeland and nearly went mad trying to put my finger on the taste, as I had never heard of the lakelands topping before. To me, it is reminiscent of talcum powder and feminine hygiene products. haha

    Cocoa Puffs!!! My god Bradley you have the same olfactory sense that I have, I couldn't place it at first but after hearing your comment it IS definitely a Cocoa Puff like aroma. Thankfully it doesn't translate for me to the flavor while smoking which I find quite pleasant. Keep puffin.

    after having a few bowls of this I agree with your review, there is that underlying perfume note. I like the blend but it is not my favorite.

  • @dougowen9873
    @dougowen9873 6 років тому

    Gotta agree: The Lakeland diminishes as you puff down the bowl. I think the flavor would benefit from less of the Lakeland but for me the positives of the Virginia, Burley, Perique combination more than makes up for the slight Lakeland flavor. Keep puffin.

    My first interaction with Lakeland flavor was Ennerdale Flake. It terrified me. It was the most horrific flavor I've ever experienced in my entire life. For a few days afterwards I could not rid my palate of it's soapy old lady perfume essence. Now whenever I see Lakeland I run for the hills. It also ghosted the bejesus out of my pipe. I would HIGHLY recommend if you're trying ANYTHING with Lakeland in it do it in a corn cob that you don't mind throwing away afterwards.

As you undestand, I'm a beginner so can you give me some suggestions which brand I should choose including which type of pipe? ( Please consider to be economic )

    I like the Lakeland flavor. BUT, when I smoke it, I want to taste it, and not just a little bit of a hint. I have some other blends that have the hint of Lakeland, and I don't like them, so I think I will pass on this one. Thanks for the review!

  • @Voltchip
    @Voltchip 7 років тому +1

    I just couldn't get past the Lakeland essence. The soapy character, especially in the retrohale was just not my thing. The worst part was that it persisted in the bowel of my favorite virginia pipe for several other smokes, effectively ruining a few other smokes of virs I really care for. It seems to have finally left, but I was debating getting rid of the pipe for a while.

    • @SaadyAb
      @SaadyAb 7 років тому +1

      When you say "soapy" are you by chance referring to what you might taste in McClelland blue mountain as well? Or am i thinking of something else?

    • @Voltchip
      @Voltchip 7 років тому +1

      Abdullah Saady, never detected it in Blue Mountain, a balkan I like a great deal. In Stonehenge, especially in the retrohale, it has that same astringent, acrid feeling you get when soap suds get in your nose.

    Some strange reviews going around on this one and I am nervous. Bought a fiver of these and am scared.

    • @evanator166
      @evanator166 7 років тому +4

      Maybe I can help ease or perhaps increase your nervousness. First off I have never smoke a lakeland tobacco, though I intend to at some point. There are several hangups that us American pipe smokers can experience with lakelands.
      They are English aromatics flavored with a variety of things from almonds, rose, geranium, vanilla, rum, tonquin, musk, heliotropin to bergmont. Why many would ask would you ruin good tobacco with such toppings? Remember that these are aros, so American aromatics are flavored with vanilla, caramel, cherry, chocolate, ect. because those are common flavors in American sweets. Likewise many sweets/food not just in the UK but in Europe and the rest of the world are flavored with lakeland essence toppings. Turkish delight for example is traditional make with rose water. Most Americans associate such flavors with perfume, soap, or grandma instead of food or drink, which is unfortunate and not something the rest of the world does. Ennerdale for example is G&H most popular blend and G&H have been producing lakeland essence blends for over 200 years so obviously some people like them.
      I think I would associate lakelands with tea having had some floral teas or blends with a floral component before like jasmine, rose hip, chrysanthemum, lavender, hibiscus, and bergmont. I think it is all about what you associate the taste with that determines at least in part if you like lakelands. A good example I heard of was a Japanese foreign exchange student who hated rootbeer and said it tasted like cough syrup. This seems weird since we Americans associate cherry or grape with cough syrup. Well in Japan supposedly they sweeten children's medicine with sarsaparilla, a base flavor of rootbeer.
