- How's it going BDT Squad?
We are finally posting the dreaded mechatronic unit replacement video! This is probably one of the most common failures on the B8 S4, and there is zero information on it. So, since our mech unit was acting up, we thought it'd be helpful to document the process. We start the video with a quick diagnosis, and then we jump right into the install. Now, this is not the simplest of tasks and we had more than our fair share of headaches during this install, but everything worked itself out thankfully!
We hope this will help you if/when this happens to you!
As always feel free to leave any questions down below, and until next time, Stay TUNED!

Thank you for sharing. My 2012 S4 is starting to act like that, at least now I have an idea if I decided to DIY. I wish you guys have a shop here in Norcal. It seems like you are a trustworthy shop, and of course fully knowledgeable with Audi, I rather let you work on my car and give you the $ than taking it to the dealership (can't trust them anymore, based on couple of experiences). Well, more power to BoostDynamicTuning. God speed.
Thank you for the kind reply. I wish I could help! I worked for Audi and there are smart techs but you're talking 2 out of the 10 techs. It's such a gamble and you can see I my self had an issue with Audi programing my unit. Such a headache, but the car is ripping now and ready for ported and polished blower!
@@boostdynamictuning you’re right, it only takes 1 or 2 bad apples to contaminate the whole basket. Maybe I’m just one of the unfortunate ones. Well, Audi diagnosed my car with 2 issues; thermostat and the DSG. recommendation is mechatronic circuit board replacement, and thermostat replacement (which I just replaced just a year ago) they quoted me for $5200 (parts and labor) that’s going to hurt and it will take me a while to come up with that $. Is it still ok to moderately drive my car? it is my daily car anyway. By the way, I have stg 2+ ECU and stg 1 TCU. Any info would help and appreciated. Thank you 🤙🏽
Thank you for sharing this amazing video… I have a Q5 and behaving kind of the same way as you describe…. Salutes from Panama 🇵🇦
Did you solve it?
Yet another great video. Also shows me what I've been wondering about my B8 S5 DSG. I hate that you say if you have a B8 DSG that I should sell it. I just bought it! lol. I still love it and when it comes time to change the mechatronic, I have a great video to watch again. Again, great video!
No problem lol
Not trying to hate on b8's 🤣
You didnt video the main harness connector being disconnected. You must do this or the viewers who watch your videos will make the catistrofic mistake of ripping off the main tcm connector. Like I just did today. Bad news for my project. Here is hoping I can find a reasonable solution to a unfortunate circumstance. 😢Cheers
What a great video mate. Really appreciate your work. You made it look so easy. Feeling motivated to do it myself now.
You got this! It was that bad, I thought it was going to be harder than it was. Hardest part is getting the dealership to adapt it.
Great video! I am about to take my mechatronics unit our to be fixed, can you help me with the repair manual for me to see what measurements i need to set mine up to once i get it back from the shop please?
Really nice video!
Great video brother 👍🏼👍🏼 I’m about to work on 2013 S4 took it a transmission shop and I don’t think they knew why they were doing I purchased a used transmission but had to take the mech unit to one of my buddies to clone the new mech unit. My question to you is if I have to measure those white things with the hooks I looked at the original mech units code and it starts with an N24E so I’m a little confused what website can I use to see the measurements
Glad I could help! I would take measurements that I stayed in the video. Or use measurements from old forks.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Hey there.awsome info video.i need a little advice, would I need to have the immobiliser adapted if I was to have my old mech unit refurbished and refit it?
You would not, but I really advise against being rebuilt. I've seen way to many people have a rebuilt not work after fixing it.
Question, why would you drop it off at Audi to get it programmed? When you can do this your self in VCDS ?
@@MiIlerGD you can't adapt immobilizer with vcds.
Hi boss just did a mech swap on a 2018, sent to dealer to get reprogrammed and they called me back saying that I have a parking brake fault so it won’t allow them to do it, Is that what you’re talking about ? Have them keep trying? :) your videos are super helpful so I appreciate you much
Sadly it wasn't a parking brake error. They're not lying, the ebrake does need to work to adapt trans
@@boostdynamictuning what do you think can trigger that, wasn’t on before we removed the mech unit 😟
Thanks man u saved me ❤

Did the car slam or clunk into reverse and drive? Did it have problems shifting? In the process of replacing my mech unit rn. Alsobif I swap my tcu onto new mech will it need to get recoded?
What year would you recommend an s4 thank you , been looking at b8 and b8.5 come across this common problem on a sales add for one and thought I’d do some research and come across your videos and it’s really put me off them
Did you buy one?
Great video. I wonder if you can help me with an advice for an s tronic box on a q5. I reconditioned the clutch, the mechatronics and made the adaptations. After the operation, the car has a shock from the 3rd gear to the 2nd, and when it is almost stopped, it gives another jerk. Likewise, when I switch from Drive to neutral and accelerate it in neutral, it starts moving forward a little. What should I replace? Thanks!
I would start with checking fluid level
@@boostdynamictuning this was the first thing that i ve checked. The oil level îs ok.
Did this car have any codes? I'm having a hard time diagnosing my car and so are my local shops and would love some insight! My 2014 dsg has no codes but it has a hesitation starting and after gear changes, 2-1 clunk, it's very inconsistent and reverse often bucks like letting out the clutch too fast in a manual car. Also the power delivery is inconsistent feels like it has turbo lag if that makes sense. All of the sudden you get full power around 3k rpm.
We didn't have any codes, but it's very common issue on these cars.
Why do you have to take it to Audi? I have a 2013 s4 and it won’t go in reverse with a new mech unit is that the problem?
Hey man , had my gearbox showing the usual malfunction you may continue driving ... took it to a specialized trans shop and they rebuilt the DSG with a new cluth, TCM and they said they replaced the solenoids on the mech unit . However, the car again starting kind knocking once you lift ur foot at 2nd gear then accelerate again ( low speed ) as well as knock when when decelerating on 2nd to 1st ... a small nodge if get what i mean ...what could it be ... what are the things to replace more than the ones they replaced
Are you stock tcu tune?
Rebuilding personally isn't the best route. Buy a new mech unit might be your only solution sadly. Plus wriring harness to ensure no issues. Catch it early and you won't have to replace clutches.
Where can I obtain the information to find out what the measurement is, either 28 or 32, for my vehicle ?
Was planning on doing this job now this week.
Audi Elsa is the only good info.
Faulty code 8056 select level sensor P179F is related to drive position sensor ?
I have an Audi A5 2011 sportback and it’s jerks/pullsback at 5mph when I let go the gas Took it to the mechanic and there’s no code for the transmission. This only happens on 1&2 gear the rest of gears moves normal no slipping. Any answers?
Drove in manual on 1st gear till It reached 5mph and still felt the jerk
Great video thanks
Not a problem! Glad double enjoyed the video 😎
Is that neutral setting for the gear selectors before mech goes back in?
It's for a solenoids to know starting position. It doesn't actually do anything with gear selector it's self.
My 2013 s4 is immobilizing and throwing a transmission function. After I let it sit for a couple minutes, I can drive again, I'm pretty sure this is why previous owner traded it in. My question is what are odds this fixes my solution and how long is it gonna hold up? Lol you've probably got this question a ton. I'm wondering if the drive selector has anything to do with this.
I would start with scanning the codes. You don't want to guess on this repair
Great job!!!
Thank you my friend!
I have a stage 2 tcu tune and mine is starting to do this high up drop gears and ban when slowing jumping forward
Do you have a part number for the hoses?
Why not just try the mech pcb board repair kit?
I don't use PCB board repair kits because I don't want to waste my time with incompetent repair facilities. I've personally seen 6/10 NOT work, and I don't have time to do it twice. Also, going cheap has never done me right when it comes to Audi/VW, but you do you.
Its not worth it
How much did the unit cost
Can you Do it on Jack stands?
How long did it actually take to do this?
Great job!
If I took my time, I would say around 3-5 hours. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Hi recently had my mechatronic changed on my Audi a3, but car still isn’t driving. Parking gear is blinking and transmission isn’t picking up on scanner. Please help
I don’t want this same issue could you reply
@boostdynamictuning
I have an issue with P17E100 gear selector 2 mechanical malfunction after replacing the repair kit any tip or help??
You solved it.
@@kikesalasv.4860 no I just one code I’m getting for Torque limited due to clutch temperature
My 2013 s4 is doing the rpm jumping when you come to a stop but doesn’t slip when driving and this morning my trans malfunction came on scanned with obd11 and fault code p179D00 any thought on what this could be?
Sounds like mech time
@@boostdynamictuning better if buying a new One or can i get the rebuild kit ecs or fpc sells?
@@Toxikk_ new is the only way!! These rebuild kids I've see so many not work
I had the same issue. 😢 i had to change the whole Mechatronic. It was pricey😢
Great video thx brother
No problem! Thanks for watching
By any chance do you have the part number for those plastic seals?
Should be in the video. Call Audi if you don't see it in the video.
Hi .. I have Audi 7 2013.. transmission working absolutely fine just I’m getting error Gear is overheating change driving style .. and fault code is P1765 hydraulic sensor 2 adaptation limit reached .. pls advise what could be the actual problem??
Either wiring to sensor or actual sensor is faulty. You might get lucky and fix replace sensor and it work. Or you might have a valve body issue. You stated your car is an a7 right?
@@boostdynamictuning yes… this sensor are not replaceable .. attached with TCU
@@abahsain ouch, sorry to hear this. It's not the worst job, but it's going to be pricey.
hello
what software did you use to code the mecatronic?
Odis is the only way Sadly
@@boostdynamictuning not vcds ?
@@Gregevo vcds is used for adaption and changing configuration bits, as for programing immobilizer data that is done via ODIS
@@boostdynamictuning thanks !
Same process for a tuned tcu?
Yes
did you replace the mechatronic to a new one just parts
Brand new from Audi
@@boostdynamictuning is the mechtronic a service part or replace parts of original
@tariq mohammed you can swap parts but I would never do so! Buy a whole new mech unit and be done
Super arbeit Respekt schad das sie nicht gezeigt haben wie mann die Grundeinstellung macht ..kann mit vcds die Grundeinstellung machen schöne grüße aus deutschland s❤

Why did you need to take it to Audi to code the TCM?
New mech unit needs immobilizer adapted. The car won't drive or move after mech replacement. Also only way to keep warranty on mech unit also.
My s4 has these codes can you help me out please a shop near me charged me $300 to tell me the didn’t know what was wrong with it P1624 P2846 P0726
it could be a clutch because clutch was slipping but he straight went for mechatronics unit like he knew what was wrong. if i was there i would have the clutch checked first. not only me but every single mechanic go for clutch first. i don't know after saying that mech unit dosent know when to engage clutch he didnt even bother to do the basic settings on the previous mech unit to see if its the clutch or the mech unit. surprising tech here
How can you check clutch without removing trans?
The fluid was coming out lmao, you are silly
