  • Full steam ahead! I'd heard this popular song several times before, and I was very happy to finally learn it after it was requested by a good friend! This song goes by several other names, including "Old Reuben", "Train 45", and "900 Miles".
This was a very fun one to record. I upgraded my original banjo with a $3 (it came in a 16-pack) 1" star sticker, so it sounds significantly better than it did the last time it was on the channel. I'm usually able to play this banjo just fine without a strap, but these overall shorts made it slippery, and I did have to catch it a couple times.
I took a lot of inspiration from Doc Watson and Billy Strings (his solo banjo covers, in particular). Good news; Reuben does not get murdered in this version, haha. He seems way to chill for all that. I mean, who could hate the guy? He built a train.

Channel note: I'm really happy with the quantity of videos I was able to post over this last 7 weeks; something like 25 videos, mostly songs with lyrics. I'm excited to have sort of a starter catalog now. I will be slowing down my uploads a little bit, and I will probably upload videos featuring other instruments and banjo playing styles with a little bit more frequency. I appreciate all the community support thus far!
Recorded with my Recording King RKO-3S tuned down a few steps from ~gDGBD (G-Standard). This song is (more?) commonly played in f# DF# AD instead.
