Hi guys! My name is Sammie & I am a homesteading wife, a homeschooling mom & a granny.
We live on a 10-acre small hobby farm in Oklahoma, and we have 7 children with 4 still at home. We grow & process a majority of our meat supply & grow an organic garden that supplies us throughout the year by growing & preserving.
We are also blessed with many wild edibles growing on our land to forage, eat & to also use medicinally ~ I show you how to harvest, use & preserve some of them.

Hi I’m just reading a book by Dorothy Gilman (she wrote the Mrs Pollifax series) called girl in Buckskin. It was written in 1956 but there is a character called Blue Feather in it. I just wondered if you had read the book or came up with the name Blue Feather maybe just finding one. I know this is far fetched but I love synchronicity- I started reading the book yesterday and she mentioned making goldenrod tea; today I find you on YT at a place called Blue Feather, making Goldenrod Tea? Crazy! Thank you. I see it everywhere and will go get some today and try it.

@Homer2q I absolutely love this. ~No accidents. There must be a reason why we are crossing paths. My ancestors were definitely in buckskin. I love feathers and keep every one of them that I find. I needed a homesteading name for my channel and I originally wanted green feather because I love to garden, but it was taken. I thought about blue feather because of the sky, the ocean, and it's a beautiful calming color. It was NOT taken, so it was 🙏. It became my name. 💙 😁

Wonderful, concise, informative video. It's mid-August, and here in NY goldenrod is just starting to bloom. It grows very abundantly here, and horses do not eat it (I mow my pastures anyway, but it is in the fencerows and on steep banks. I have a ton of it drying! It's going to rain all day, but I have lots of herbs to play with and make oils and tinctures. Elderberry, comfrey, and some ripe peaches for a cobbler, too. Thanks!

This is a really great question, and I have been looking to find
an answer. In my mind, I say why not do it now before it's completely dead. I haven't found anything that says it's either beneficial or harmful at this point. I'm trying to think of an example to myself.... I wouldn't pick & eat cilantro if it was dead, but I might if it was turning a little brown. I'm going to have to say, it's your call. I literally can not find the answer.

I agree. After the last comment, I said, "Yes, I will absolutely be washing them from now on." 😆 I mean, I wash the heck out of the veggies from the grocery store. Worried about who touched what and then the food. I surely should be washing these. Yikes! Thank you and have a blessed evening. ~Sammie 😊
