- I picked up a new wicked edge system today at GP Knives in Troy, IL. Ive been thinking about it for three years and finally did it. I needed the ability to reprofile knives, my beloved Sharpmaker was not cutting it (no pun intended). This is just an update but I will be doing some videos on this sharpener, you can bet that!

Wicked Edge Sharpening system
I love mine, I upgraded to the pro pack 2 with the new clamping system a couple years back & I’m glad I did saves a lot of time and frustration trying to clamp ffg blades
Great video, you come across as a good guy. I have a Wicked edge also and have been using it for over a year with great success.
I appreciate that, thanks for watching.
You're probably feeling a little relief now, since it's a year later, baby is probably sleeping better. I am right there with you, 1.5 year old here. Good video.
I live in Indianapolis that could be a fun little trip over and back. Have you ever visited Smoky Mountain knife Works Sevierville Tennessee?
That's the Mecca of knives lol !Can be a fun short vacation trip , been there two times spent many hours in there each day
I have the same kit Wicked Edge isn't cheap but well worth the money. I drive by GP everyday on the way to work, I have to stop by and check em out!
They great people with a huge selection. Check em out snd let me know what you think.
I've used my Lansky system to reprofile blades & I've been using the Spyderco Sharpmaker(s) for 30+ years and get great edges, but I want this pro Pack to go to the next level. I've been drooling on the WE since they came out & now I can get one w/o breaking the bank! I've bought from GP in the past, so I might see if they still have this! Was that a BM Contego you fliped open?!? I luv that knife!!!
I’d suggest getting the 1500 / glass with some 6 micron diamond lapping film instead of 1200 / 1600 stones. The 1500 grit will get you a finish nearly as refined as the 1200 / 1600 combo and the lapping film will give you a beautiful polished finish. If you prefer ceramic stones t he n get the 1.4 / 0.6 ceramics instead of the 1200 / 1600. The 1.4 / 0.6 are the same as the standard Spyderco sharpmaker rods.
Thank you!
Never heard of that system........looking forward to your learning to use it.
I just purchased this same system on amazon for $499, is there any extra I should get it any tips I got the sharpmaker with the extra fine and the lansky with Dimond sharpener nvm just switch it the the pro pack 2
What’s your process for just touching up a knife you already profiled? For instance how would I touch up my fillet knife when it gets dull in between deer/fish after I would do the initial sharpening? Same goes for like kitchen/ everyday knives after they dull from use. Thanks
Hey Zac! To be honest alot of times for touching up I use the medium stone or fine ceramics on the spyderco sharpmaker. Sometimes I finish with a extra fine ceramic. Touching up on the wicked edge, I will go 400, 600, 800, 1000 grit. It depends on what the edge needs honestly. I definitely dont go all the way to a mirror polish on most knives, im not confident in the functionality vs my time. I do 20 degrees each side for most edc (except spyderco) then usually 15 degrees each side for kitchen knives and spyderco. I hope this helps, thanks for watching!
The sharpmaker is such an affordable, portable companion.
Sure blame the kid! Wasn't his fault you didnit! LOL... nice review!
Haha
i have another version of this system and i would go 1200 diamond and then go in the the diamond emulsion on kangaroo leather you will get tons of wicked edges :)
Awesome! Thank you!
These kits are nice but at that price point I’d rather just buy a new knife. Every time.
I understand. I mainly use my spyderco sharpmaker to maintain my knives for $75.
Yea thats more reasonable. Many thanks!
Spend $1,000 on a knife sharpener, get a notepad and pen free!!
