OneNote. although I am feeling like I need Notion because I have been studying with you a for a bit and I am tempted . the problem is that learning to use something new (Like Notion) and writing my lit review and Methods section seems overwhelming LOL!
Obsidian and Zotero for me. Super excited about the new iOS app for Zotero as that is seriously simplifying my workflow and I am loving it. The exporting annotations as notes feature you touched on is actually what I use to get all my notes from Zotero into Obsidian
Loved this vlog! And yes please to the notion calendar trick and the Zotero app (I have it, but like you, I feel I'm missing some tricks!). Sorry I've been so slow watching this one. I need to go catch up on Dr. Danielle Lawson's vlogs now too. Just feel like I've been a bit chaotic the last couple weeks and need to catch up with some of my positive influences and re-establish myself in the madness! Catch you in a hour for some work/study goal achieving!
I love your blogs Holly. I'm an assistant professor with background in music living in NJ. I also am living with Cancer and thriving! I love your energy.
Hi Darina - I'm sorry for the late reply, I've been in a writing bubble for weeks and put UA-cam on pause. I am delighted to hear you're thriving, and really appreciate you reaching out! If you're ever in New York City, and fancy a coffee let me know!
Thank you so much for these videos, it's so interesting to see how other people use Notion with their research, and I am definitely getting some invaluable tips and tricks from you! I'd be interested to learn more about the calendar possibilities with Notion. I use iCal, though, rather than Google Calendar. In your vid, it also looked like iCal - do you use both?
Hey Sarah! Thank you for the lovely comment - I do use iCal but it’s because it is synced to my Mail, which are all gmail accounts. If you don’t use Gmail at all, I could suggest that you do the following if you did want to sync iCal: 1. Create a Gmail account purely for the purposes of syncing it to Notion. 2. Add your Apple Calendar to Google Calendar. These days there are ways of exporting/linking/sharing your iCal calendar with Gmail, you’ll find it somewhere in the settings. 3. Now that the sync has been made between your new Google account and your ical, use the Google account to set up the Notion integration. The Notion integration allows you to also see whatever non-google calendars have already been synced to your Google account. Hope that helps somewhat!
Any tips on getting more into notion without spending hours and hours and hours trying to figure it out? I watched your videos on it from a while ago and managed to set up task and project databases but it still seems super complicated but I am quite sure it would help me keep track of my many projects (work, phd, home, kiddo, etc). Any hints to good pages/videos/tutorials are super appreciated!
Hello Holly. I came across your page and loved the content. Thank you for this wonderful insight into your workflow process. Where can I find the plugin to update the google calendar based on my notion as you suggested in this video?
I WANT TO KNOW: What or where is your PhD workflow. Notion? Obsidian? Evernote? Share your best workflow tips!
I'm a general microsoft fan! But I do love Google Keep for my to do lists hehe
I love OneNote to keep track of my notes, Nebo for annotating pdfs, and Mendeley for citation management. These are the trifecta for me!

Obsidian and Zotero! They integrate pretty well together.
