YES I need this so badly!! I tried to do it on my own and I set it up, but it would not sync. I am so excited to see what you did so that I can finally get my zotero on notion
Really appreciated!!! It looks so complicated for international students at first. I finally get the patience to make it done with clear directions in the below description part after opening your video twice.
Hi guys! I ran into some problems when installing the Notero plugin. Regardless of all the tutorials I watched my Zotero citations just wouldn't synchronize with Notion automatically when I added new ones. So in case you're running into the same issue: try right click on the citation and all the way on the bottom it says "Sync with Notion". Haven't found a way to synchronize automatically instead of manually but at least it solves my problem for now. Just thought I'd share :)
Hey Emily, I am also having this issue as well. I couldn't figure out how to get it to work either but the "sync with Notion" button that you suggested made it work for me as well. Have you figured another solution to this issue yet? Thanks! Emily
Hi Emily! :D I haven't found any other solution tbh but I also have to admit that I haven't tried. I just figured out that if you don't want to synchronize every single citation you add to Zotero, you can also do the right cklick and "sync with Notion" on your library name. That sould sync everything you recently added :) @@EmilyDarnell-nu1xd
@@EmilyDarnell-nu1xd Exactly the same has happened to me, it wont sync automatically but manually, which is at least good, but it does make you loose some precious time and diverts a little of the purpose. Have you been able to solve the issue? Perhaps @HollyJaneYT knows how?
Hi got the answer to do the sync automatically! You go into zotero. You click your notero collection folder (like you would do in a specific you want to sync) , and there you select to sync to notion. Try it, now everytime you add something into that folder it will sync automatically! xox
Wow what a great tutorial. I am not sure how to link my Notion Database to a specific folder in Zotero. So far I need to manually click on the right folder and do 'sync to notion'. I do not get the automatic functionality like you do.
Glad it was helpful! It might be because the file was already in the folder before you did the whole sync set up. Does it work automatically when you put new items into the folder?
Worked liked a charm, Holly! Thanks so much for this. I'm new to Notion and to your channel. Thanks for being one of my unofficial mentors as I start my second year as a PhD student. I know connecting Zotero with Notion will be a game changer . 🙏🏼 V
Thank you... I think it is better to don't make a separate folder inside Zotero. Instead, you can right-click on an item that you want and use the sync to Notion option... If you want to see which items were synced between Zotero and Notion, just use the search bar in Zotero and search "notion"...
I'm so close to making this work! But for some reason in the Notero Preferences in Zotero, "My Library" isn't showing up in the Sync Preferences - only some old folders I used to use when part of a Group Library. Any ideas how to fix this?!
Hello! As far as I know, you can't sync the entire My Library. You have to create a folder specifically for Notion. A little annoying, but that's what I think might be the problem here. Hope it helps!
Thank you, that was really helpful. I've always asked myself what is a good workflow for a phD student and I wonder as a vlogger if you would help others do their own with videos such as this one
There could be a couple of things wrong here. Did you start with an empty folder in Zotero? Starting with your synced folder being empty often resolves issues with syncing because when you move the items into it from your main library you can see if the Notion sync notification comes up!
Hello! thank you so much for the video holly! I was wondering, do the refs all have to go into the same database (e.g your literature inbox) or can you send references that are in different folders in zotero to a corresponding separate database in notion?
So, I THINK this is possible... I'm going to experiment with it myself this week if I can but if you find anything that works, please do let me know! :)
@@HollyJaneYT I came for an answer to this exact same question. I found a great use for this for work, but it needs to remain separate from my academic stuff.
Thank you Holly for the careful instruction. However, I have tried the link to download the template in Notion (first step). However, it is found 404 error. Could you please let me know if is there any other way to download the template?
Hello, thank you for this tutorial, this is life changing! but I have a question please : It worked perfectly for some time but then I wanted to add new zotero subfolders with corresponding notion collections and now items added through the zotero connector can't find their way to the corresponding collections in notion database.
Hi Holly, thanks for the video. Is it correct that when deleting any papers in Zotero that this is not synced with Notion, meaning I have to delete the respective papers myself in Notion? Or is this an error I am facing? thank you!
I think you have to delete it yourself - which I've found a little annoying. So what I do is I create a Notion/Zotero folder in Zotero, that is synced - not my entire library. This reduces significantly the amount of time I have to spend adjusting Notion items. Hope that helps a little!
hi, thank you so much for this amazing tutorial. I followed all the instructions. But it does not work..:( when I try to create an integration on Notion, it goes "Internal Integration Secret" not "Internal Integration Token". That is the only thing that i made different. Can be the reason because I use Basic Notion not upgraded? Any idea? thanks again..
Hey Holly, first of all, thank you for this great tutorial! But I have got a problem, hopefully you or somebody else can help me because I am going nuts right now. So I synchronized all the literature but then I decided I want to change how it is saved into Notion by just saving the Authors name and date. So I deleted all the literature in notion, changed the synchronizing settings to just save the Autors name and date and then synchronized again. But it did not work. "APIResponseError: Can't update a page that is archived. You must unarchive the page before updating." I had a look git hub where is written: "Note that deleting a Notion page moves it into the trash, and the Notion API refers to this as "archived." Notero associates Zotero items with Notion pages through a link named Notion attached to the item. To resolve the issue, delete this link attachment on the offending item(s) and then perform the sync again. But how do I delete this link? I tried in Notion als well als in Zotero but it does not work! Hopefully somebody can help. Thank you
Firstly, I’m sorry for the delay in replying! secondly: this happened to me too, and what I had to do was delete the Notion file attached to the item in Zotero - like when you click on the Zotero item to get the pdf for example you need to delete the Notion file attached, and then re-upload the whole item (the paper, book, chapter etc) to the Zotero folder you’ve synced to Notion. I really hope that helps!
Another great video, thanks, Holly :) a quick question from an ancient follower (me haha). have you synced your older database with this new one or just literally started from scratch and ignore your older readings?

Hi Holly, this was very helpful in making my personal Notero :) Just wanted to ask anyone if they know how to make a group Notero? Where a Zotero group library is used instead of my personal one?
Hi there, I am having difficulties to copie the link from the notion into the database window in zotero, because it has a a drop down menu which shows the name of my notion name in it and it cant be deleted. Any ideas why and how can i fix that? Thanks for your help

I even moved subject topics from my Group Library to My Library. I do not see a Notion link on my Zotero page after following the steps... Am I missing something in what I just journaled here?
