Thank you very much for watching my little nose drama. I just wanted to share my experience of the procedure, the hospital, and staff. wish I could have interacted more, but maybe on my check up. A lot of concerns about health care quality in Thailand. Hope this was a positive example of life in Thailand. Very satisfied with my outcome. You guys are Awesome!

Chuck. Paige was just wonderful. She stayed with you in the hospital and help nurse you back to health. Your speech sounds so much clearer. Not nasal as before surgery. The surgery and stay in the hospital was a fraction of what it cost here in the USA. Good speed.

Hello Chuck.. I really enjoy all ur videos. I'm glad ur surgery went well. My biggest concern is buying health insurance at age 60 . I've called a couple of international insurance companies n it's ridiculous on the cost. I would appreciate info on ur next video on options for insurance companies n perhaps if u can their cost for premiums and deductions I understand this will be different for everybody but just a ballpark figure

    Quick comment :
I'm currently in Chon Buri Thailand. Four days ago I had an emergency ambulance trip down to Chon Buri hospital for a kidney stone . Excruciating pain. Had an overnight stay in the hospital along with with Lithotrispy ultrasound to break up the stone. Was able to go home the next day. Since this is my second kidney stone, the 1st of which was dealt with in the U.S. I can make some comparisons. In United States I think I was looking at two weeks minimum for surgery. Even in getting in to see the urologist proved to be impossible. I had to go to the emergency room for treatment. I think total cost would have been close to 10 grand in the states. Utimately I ended up passing the stone on my own waiting. It was not a fun 12 days. I was out of work and taking painkillers particularly at night. I had residual effects from muscles being in spasms for so long.
By comparison I was treated within hours in Thailand, and on my way home the next day. Chon Buri did not have the machine required to do the surgery, so they had it shipped from Bangkok. Had it in place within 10 hrs. Remarkable considering the size of the machine. Anesthesiologist spoke extremely good English. Dr. was an 80-year-old guy, who had a great bedside manner. Nurses and staff were excellent. Hospital was immaculate.
Cost was just under 4K. There is Boopa (not sure I spelled that right) insurance you can get for about $125 a month here. If I lived here, I think I would go that route.
Not a fun experience to get sick on vacation, but Thailand will take good care of you!

Great to hear that you now would have no more breathing problem. Several years ago, my stepmom passed away in a hospital. No treatment was given because her cancer was so bad. She stayed 5 nights. The total bill before insurance was 20K. Healthcare cost here in States is a big social problem.

Wow Chuck now the healing begins only the "Nose, Knows" how this week will go. It's a big sacrifice, abstaining from alcohol as long as that's all eh? Thank you and Paige for sharing this experience. Being a single Healthy retired guy (knock on wood) I take no medications so far. In my case all those lovely well trained nurses would be a welcome distraction for sure. You have gone above and beyond with this very detailed vlog so thank you for you and Paige are doing. I hope to get over there to have some dental work done and combine a 4 week vacation.

had a septorhinoplasty done a number of decades ago..... watching your video brought back some memories (nightmares).... lol I had a deviated nasal septum most of my life if not all...... kind of suspected I had it but when you're a kid you just take it as normal...... they had a blue piece of plastic stuck up my nose after the surgery..... thought they were going to pull out my brains when they took it out.......... my breathing through the nose was an out of body experience........ difference was beyond belief....... procedure was paid by insurance but I'm sure it was outrageous back then (procedure was done in WV) was in hospital for a few days and i think it was a month before they yanked the splint out of my nose........ hope your recovery goes well.... ridiculous how much cheaper it is in Thailand....... am looking to retire in about a decade to either Thailand or Philippines......

We call it vlogging but in reality they are mini-documentary films. Slices of daily life unfiltered to a degree. Something that documentary filmmakers yearn to capture by trying to quickly make people feel at ease on camera. With You Tube it seems less strange to watch the daily life of a family. When done well it can be extremely compelling. You and Paige make it appear effortless. You welcome the audience into your life with laughter and good will. Thanks for sharing a bit of your life and advice Chuck and Paige. Keep on Truckin'!

Last year my wife's neurologist ordered a special full brain and spinal MRI scan for her. We shopped here in our area (Idaho) and found the cheapest price was $3500.00 in Spokane. We had planned a vacation to Thailand and did some research. A Thai friend recommended an MRI center in Bangkok. We got a quote for the same scan, with more modern MRI machines, for $950!! The savings more than paid for our air tickets and the staff was incredible, holding my wife's hand, serving me hot tea, smiles all around, escorting us to and from our taxi, and giving us a free umbrella because it was raining that day. Astounding service you will never get in the US. Her neurologist was very impressed with the image quality given to us on CD and film. I'm going back to get all my front teeth capped and remove my wisdom teeth. $1000's here, I bet $500 in Thailand.

    Chuck,
By the end of the Video I could hear your voice change. Time to listen to some of the old audio and do an A/B for the before and after. Glad to see the whole process. Including the insurance facts. This makes me feel better about the coverage for my issues on my trip.
As for Sugar at 80 before the procedure, that is a bit low. I would expect a fasting level of 90 or higher. But 80 when you are hungry and fasting for a procedure is not an issue. But you can not say you do not have sugar issues. Drink a tall Margarita and let's see the numbers!
So far I see great success. Take a few days slower. Then enjoy a long bike ride and breath!!

In Australia and NZ is the same. You can go public or private. My dad had heart surgery, to go public was a 6-week wait. To go private was that week with the same doctor. The reason is because they are paid like a contract with the Govt so get so many hours in public. Outside of that, they work in their private clinic. Dads doctor had filled his public calendar so would not get paid to do dads surgery unless it was through private. Luckily dad had insurance so went private but it still cost money on top of the surgery because private has a scheduled rate and the doctor might have to do extra work and it cost more. Wife decided to go private even though her surgeon said he would still do it in public around the same time schedule. The difference with her is in public, he was training a student who would do the surgery unless there was a complication and he takes over. Basically he was being paid as a teacher in that case. Ended up costing us thousands because they say free under your insurance but they dont tell you about extras like anesthesiologist etc. Interesting how it all works and as laymen we honestly have no idea until after it is done.

I wonder, have you learned your lesson this time after finally dealing with the dental and deviated septum and sinus issues? :-) I can assure you that as you get older, procrastination regarding health issues can sometimes result in far more serious complications than what you have experienced thus far. I had a similar surgery. Deviated septum, adenoids removed, lots of polyps and growth in the maxillary sinuses. still do the saline rinses pretty regularly. You’re going to feel so much better!! I remember everyday it was like. Cost with the anesthesia and going home same day was $87,000 without insurance. I was on my parents insurance so we just paid our deductible. So that was probably like $4,000 but with the premium you pay monthly anyway US insurance nuts.

I had septoplasty and turbinate work done too. I remember that they had gauze in my nose and wasn't able to breathe while eating. I was supposed to have the surgery in the US and was going to cost ~21k. The insurance was going to cover about 90% which was verified before I was scheduled. I'm glad I waited until I got back home where it didn't cost me anything even with an overnight stay.

I'm glad your surgery went well . A CAUTION with using decongestant Nasal Sprays - continued use can result in "rebound reaction" where the nose actually blocks due to the medication . Use sparingly - maybe Saline Nasal Spray or a combination of both - Saline : Decon Spray ( 3:1). Did you say "NO BEER " ? (your condition is worse than I thought LOL)

    Excellent... thank you.
Good information for me. My nose has been messed up all my life. June I'll be 62. Has gotten worse over the years. Pretty much can't ever breathe through my nose with 100% blockage almost always. About 20 years ago I ended up in an emergency room. They did a scan on my head to make sure I wasn't having a stroke (was an inner ear issue). So anyway, the Neurosurgeon comes in and says to me:
"You know, a lot of people tell me they have sinus problems.... You do!"
I was so sick at the time I never asked him what he meant by that. Still don't know.
But, I'm planning a trip to Southeast Asia after this June 2019. Plan on Vietnam and Cambodia. My main emphasis is Thailand. Maybe I need to look into this. God it would be nice to be able to breathe!
What has the longer term situation been after the surgery? Still good?
    Thanx.

Great video. I was a bit surprised to see the nurse putting in the IV wasn’t wearing gloves! :(

I needed a hospital stay also in KK, i used the government hospital and i have nothing but praise, a private room in the new wing equal to the quality in the KK private hospitals, i had quite a bit of work done followed by Radiation for a month and it was not bank busting, at 69 and a little bit of health history no body lives you anymore so you have to be prepared. I used the Uni hospital and my fears were unfounded.

I thought it was something familiar on the road. And that's because I have been in That Phanom several times.
Health care is normally relative cheap and good with skilled doctors and other staff in the private hospitals. Good to see you are happy with the surgery.

I had this op back in the early 90s. It really is quite unpleasant. Worth it tho !

I had that when I was in my 20's. During the surgery they had me hold the chisel while they whacked it with a hammer. Don't let the black eyes keep you a way. We like raccoons.
not a real painful experience, just uncomfortable for a while. Best wishes to a speedy recovery.
