The Drummer Larnell Lewis learnt the entire we like it here set on a 7.5 hour plane trip
No, he actually knew a couple of tunes already, since he's played them before with them, but he did learn most of it on the plane. There's a whole documentary out there on it. They had like one or two run throughs before rolling tape, but it's still an incredible feat and performance by Larnell. That video from Zildjian Live is killer too.
Larnell Lewis, the drummer, is an absolute
MONSTER!!!
Snarky Puppy opened for Steely Dan last summer. It was heaven.
Dude, I bet that was one hell of a show.
Good lord I can only imagine how awesome that would have been
Are you kidding me? Just wow
OMG..what an evening that had to be! Musical bliss!
Oh my god!! That must have been amazing!! Where was that concert?
Snarky Puppy is really a "collective" of musicians and all of them are extraordinary. Corey Henry is exceptional on the keyboards and they tour all the time so please go see them. There is a reason they always win Grammy Awards.
For ensemble playing, no one's better than Snarky Puppy.
The Corey Henry/Larnell Lewis section is the top echelon of improvisation! The conversation between the two of them takes off to a frantic feeding frenzy. That was one of the most ethereal, otherworldly jazz conversations ever recorded. Now you need to do “Something” by Snarky with Layla Hathaway!
I have to dig into these guys, their is some Afro-rthmic timing differences are phenomenal! Damn, I’ve been living under a rock😂😂😇
Cory's keyboard solo is already legendary- people are copping it on guitar and other instruments. A benchmark moment in 21st century music.
His keyboard solo sounds a lot like a Zappa guitar solo played on a keyboard. Or is it just me?
Yep, drummer and keyboards blew me away first time I heard this. So good to see jazz-rock fusion making a comeback.
Man I couldn’t agree with you more. Pure raw talent❤️man, they’re Funky! Love the alto sax. So cool, my introduction.🥰
I want to thank you for including this Snarky Puppy tune in the reviews!
My late husband was a total jazz enthusiast and musician, and he so enjoyed these guys!
He'd put on some SP music and jam out with them on his trumpet or fluglehorn.
Brings great memories to me now.❤
I’ve never listened to them before absolutely awesome!!! More please!!!
Yes, every musician playing in the Lingus video is a full time member lf the band, except Cory Henry, who played the amazing keyboard solo, who has since left to focus on his solo career, and more members have since joined or rejoined. They have 18 or 19 members at the moment, but they never play gigs with the whole band, usually between 9 and 12 musicians on stage, since they all have multiple commitments. It works, since they have at least two members who play each instrument, except for the bass, but the bassist, Michael League, is the bandleader, and he plays every gig. I saw them live last year, and they sounded fucking incredible.
Musicianship meets groove .
These young Cats represent what's best in Music today .
Top Shelf inventory .
Say a prayer for Shaun Martin (synth). He's had some significant health problems and I hope he is doing better. Great guy and musician.
Lionel Lewis the drummer....was a stand in for the We Like it Here project. Original drummer's passport was expired and the session was recorded in the Netherlands. The gentleman next to Cory Henry that was shainkg his head during the keyboard solo is Sean Martin and has 6 grammys to his name. Thanks for a good reaction
I believe Lionel was called in very quickly and listened to the songs he was supposed to play perfectly for the first time while on the flight.
Larnell*
@@RobertClaeson Yep, he learned all but two of the songs in the album (he already knew those 2) on the 7 hours flight there. Then he showed up the day they started recording, while everyone else had 4 days together to rehearse. He's crazy good.
I have been lucky enough to see both Cory Henry’s trio a few years ago and Snarky Puppy in Sydney Australia just a few months ago… it’s more exciting and live and unpredictable and expert and teamwork than any sporting event you can think of. These guys are all at the top of the game. Super nice, too… got to chat with both Cory and BassistSP Founder Michael League after both of their shows and they are in it for the love of makin pure sound, that is all.
I found these cats about a year ago. Totally by accident, I was actually tracking down Larnell Lewis. The man on the skins. Great Zildjan Live video of Larnell with Ghost Note. As of now this is my fav track from Snarky…I’ve watched this exact video over and over. Love You Guys ❤
what would really blow your minds is the drummer for the group could not make it to this recording, so they called in a stand in that memorized the song on the flight in. Amazing
Too cool. My young second cousin, Justin Stanton, plays Trumpet and Keys in this band. (and wrote a few of their tunes) EVERYONE in the band is great.
Try Shofukan from We Like It Here
Bernard "Nard" Wright, (son of Roberta Flack) was a featured keyboardist on their Empire Central (Take It) recordings, just before his death.
You're in for a treat fellas, their catalogue will be right up your alley. The level of musicianship and how tight they are is mind blowing.
If you guys are doing more Snarky Puppy, you need to listen to "Something". They won a Grammy for that performance. Lailah Hathaway has one of the best vocal performances I have EVER heard. I guarantee you fellas will be blown away!
Michael League, the bassist composes most of their songs. The band was formed at the Univ of North Texas in 2004. Corey Henry on keyboards is a savant, Larnell Lewis on drums is one of the best. He learned most of the songs on a plane ride to Europe to get to this recording session. Everyone is wearing headphones including the audience. I think they’re listening to the sound as it goes directly to the mixing board, or something like that. Every time they put out an album it wins Grammy Awards. Shofukan, What About Me and Outlier from this same show are highly recommended. Next level musicianship. Check out Larnell Lewis listening to Enter Sandman for the first time and playing drums to it the second time. It’s on YT. 🔥🔥🔥
One of the best reactions I've seen to this track in a while. Always nice to see it get heard by people who TRULY appreciate it. Please do 'What about me?' next. The drummer, Larnell Lewis (who has plenty of his own videos worth a reaction, see 'Larnell Lewis hears a song once and plays it perfectly'), absolutely destroys it, along with the rest of the band as always. Do it. Now.
This is live gold. Historic. To miss out on this performance is to miss out on why music is so glorious.
What an insightful reaction, noting the doubling of the bass in the beginning, and the work of the drummer. New subscriber here!
This is really good. Never heard of them before! Thanks for turning me on to them!
I'm glad that there is still good, sophisticated music and musicians these days 🎸🎷🎺🥁🎹
Love me some “Lingus” in the morning.😉
Wow!!! This is fantastic. Never have heard this or the Band. I must be living under a rock. Thanks for introducing me to Snarky Puppy. Excellent reaction fellas 👌
We’ve been under the same rock. 😂
@AirplayBeats Keep up the excellent work my friends 🧡
Snarky Puppy - What about me, is another good one.
I'm sure these guys would have been playing with Zappa if he was alive today. RIP Frank :(
I love FZ, but there is no way he would play with these guys. Zappa wanted every bit of his songs to be structured and planned out to the last note. These guys are huge on improvisation which Zappa hated.
Or Mahavishnu, Weather Report and Return to Forever!
Some of the best ensemble and soloing you'll ever hear. Monsters, monsters. Larnell is a killer, so is Cory.
Cory Henry played organ in church when he was 2 years old... look it up here on YT. So...
And this session is the official "We Like It Here" album so props to the engineering too!!! Michael League is the Bassist, leader, composer and arranger of Snarky Puppy. He also has another project called "Bokanté" a more world music band that is based around north african music. He mostly lives in Portugal since years...
Definitely worth checking out more of their tunes! Amazing talent and ear candy! 🎧
Definitely check out their tune called “What About Me”
Watch the whole show....epic!
Wow.... Loved seeing your faces as this went on. New sub with this. Can't wait for more!!
This group is bananas
Love seeing new reactions to this vid, W kings merch brotha, lpve from Sacramento!
I’m so stoked that you guys have found Snarky Puppy. I’ve loved your Steely Dan reactions and tbh after Steely Dan only bands like Snarky Puppy and Dirty loops will do. Please react to Dirty Loops soon guys
"Trinity" the extended version is another great song.
Guys! You FINALLY found Snarky Puppy! Love this!!! Please listen to the whole album!!! The Great Cory Henry on keys!!!
Thanks for doing this. I have listened to this probably a HUNDRED times! It is the best jazz solo I can remember, and the whole band is over the top. Thanks for listen #101, guys!
Amazing band to see live. It’s not just that they are A level, musicians , it’s that they’re also super entertaining
Quite a stacked band. This album is really good all the way through.
Best collection of fantastic jazz musicians I’ve ever seen in concert
ELVIS COSTELLO! WATCHING THE DETECTIVES! Love you guys
Hell yes!
This was cool. First time I’ve heard them. They remind me a lot of Emerson, Lake and Palmer except for the horns. Can we have some more?
The drummer Larnell Lewis has a F-ING INCREDIBLE drum solo on his own song. City Lights Solo.... very short (3:46) but the musical IQ is off the charts! It is SO TASTEFUL. Larnell is top 5 to me.
I got to see them a couple summers ago open for Steely Dan. They are fantastic and the whole catalog is worth exploring.
I'd love to see you guys react to their version of Don't You Know featuring Jacob Collier. That track is nuts!
ALL go good - but, Larnell & Corey left me SPEECHLESS on this one!!
Yes, Snarky Puppy!👍👍 I Couldn't wait for you guys to hear them. You have to react to Shofukan!👍👍
It's still my favorite..and reminds me when my son and his jazz band covered it.
🎺✌
It makes me feel good every time I hear this! Cory Henry IS the real deal!
Great reaction! Love Jazz funk these guys are fire. Keep on rocking gentlemen the horn section is phenomenal. Thank you for what you do for the Airbeats family…❤
Thank you!! More LED Zeppelin coming for you this week as well!!
Wow.
You guys should check out DOMi and JD Beck -- two teenage jazz virtuosos on keys and drums. They're signed to Anderson .Paak's label.
Damn, that's a nice intro! I thought was watching a professinal ad for some audio equipment, I was waiting for the skip button 😂😂😂
Also, this song... just... bro...
I have never clicked a recommendation so fast.
best 5/4 groove in history
OOOOOHHHHH, MAN - you guys are gonna DIG THIS!!! LOVE THIS SONG!! SO GOOD!!! ...and, SO COMPLEX!!!
oh lord this is one of those life-changing tracks that you really wish you could experience again for the first time.
Damn. 56 yr old rock head and just hearing this those horn hooks are fire. ! Tx fellas!
Cool, been waiting for this!
Thankyou so much for reacting to this! Larnell Lewis is a drum genius as is Cory Henry on keys.
Echoes of Return to Forever , Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra❤
The keyboard solo and Lewis's sticking were amazing
You know you're a once in a lifetime keyboard player when Shaun Martin's walking off in awe...
I would love to see you guys react to any and every other track from this session. They are all on UA-cam
Saw them in Auburn, Washington a few years back. They opened for Steely Dan. Outstanding group of musicians!
Wow, you've discovered Snarky Puppy, welcome to the journey that never ends! :) Just the best!
Well that was a fun ride. Thanks for finding live footage 👏
Corey Henry playing and singing Everybody Wants To Rule The World with Scary Pockets.
Yea guys finally got there amazing music. And I think the keyboard player was channeling Chick Corea rip.
This is why you guys are the best. 👍👑
Wow, I have heard of them but never checked them out. PHENOMENAL!
Cory Henry on keys is a monster!
What about me…from the same show is fire! the whole show is fire!
Some of this reminded me of Sonic the Hedgehog music 😂
You guys should check out some more snarky puppy. “Outlier” and “what about me” are great songs
Bravo ! Now there’s talent !!!
I saw them open for Steely Dan. I think out of their 40 or more "members", 10 joined them for that concert. The entire set were tunes from a new UNRELEASED album. It takes major stones to do that live in concert. They were terrific.
Hello fellas, snarky puppy is the brain child of Michael League ( the bass player ) met him a couple of times , he is a very nice man, seen this band about three times live, never disappoint . I sent you two memory sticks with some snarky albums on it and I put some discography's on them too ( Beatles, Santana, bob Marley, Stevie wonder, clapton,…ect..) and various other albums too , should be in your PO box in the next two days . all my best to you and yours from Liverpool
Wow. Thank you my friend. Cannot wait to hear what’s on there.
@@AirplayBeats all good stuff , it should be with you in a day or two tops .
@@AirplayBeats its in your PO box now
@@peteroneill3993 awesome. I will go get it some time this week. Thanks again my friend!!
Keyboardist Corey Henry's tribute to Melvin Crispell is up on UA-cam.
WOW! FANTASTIC!🎼
This is the last song on the album. A full album review would be great. There's a documentary on the making of the slbum that cones with it. Their regular drummer couldn't make it. Larnell listened to MP3s of the demos on the fight from the US and arrived two hours before the first of 8 recording sessions.
Corey Henry can play a lot of instruments. Shaun Martin, the keyboardist who took off his headphones and walked off, has 7 Grammys. 3 with Snarky and 4 as Kirk Franklin's musical director. Snsrky Puppy have won 5 total, 2 before he joined, including the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, Empire Central[.
Larnell Lewis is a drum god.
LIfe changing if you love good music.
Thanks, that was fabulous!
Funkadellick 🎉❤🎉
Welcome to the rabbithole 😂
❤
Snarky Puppy... a musician's band! Whoot And to think Larnel Lewis learned all these songs on the plane ride over. Amazing.
you need to listen to Trinity. It doesn't feature Corey Henry, which is a shame, but it's a great tune :)
Great takes me back to Weather Report, Return to Forever, wonderful jazz fusion
Red headphones are the musicians.
Keyboard: 🥳🤪😵💫
Bass: 😏🥵🤑
Drums: ☠⏱☠
...Mr. Keys equates to Stevie Ray...SUPER clean brass and the drummer is on another planet. The bass player wrote it and is killin' it too...shit, they ALL kill it.+++
more please
May be the best band/ensemble since Weather Report, RTF, Mahavishu, etc. in my humble opinion. Your next stop should be "What About Me" (We Like It Here) same recording session. Maybe my fav. It reminds me of the Jazz/Rock/Funk from the 70s. And "Thing of Gold" (groundUP) another good number with nice solos. Happy listening!!!!
Keyboards by Cory Henry :
(Wikipedia)
"Cory Alexander Henry (born February 27, 1987) is an American jazz organist, pianist, gospel musician, and producer. A former member of Snarky Puppy, Henry launched his solo artist career in 2018 with Art of Love, his first independent release. In 2020, he released his sophomore full-length project called Something to Say which included the Marc E. Bassy-written track "No Guns". That same year he released Art of Love Live and Christmas with You both under Culture Collective management and records."
Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever PLEEEEEEZ.
Look up Corey Hart doing Billie Jean at the Proms in London, unbelievable
Check out Cory Henry & Nick Semrad - Full Jam session at NAMM 2016 Nick Semrad is in Cory's Band, 'Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles. A MUST SEE.....!!!! They will take you to Church...!!
